These “everyday” videos are great. I love the travel ones too and would like to see more, but I really like this kind of content as well. I hope you will Keep making both!
Hannah's voice and accent gives me a feeling that most people claim they get with ASMR. Please make a video where you say "peanut butter" over and over again so I can fall asleep to it.
Hey Hannah , I found your channel about a month ago while researching japan stuff for visit in June. Just wanted to say thanks for your videos, you’re great. This video reminded me of a story when I lived in Japan for a couple of years a while back. I was living with another American and while grocery shopping he bought something that he thought was breakfast cereal, kind looked like rice crispies. Well, it wasn’t. The next day he poured a big ramen size bowl of this “cereal “ dumped a bunch of milk on it and the milk just got visibly oily. Haha. Turns out it was some kind of meat breading, panko type stuff. The best part is he cut his loses and ate the whole bag!! Anyway, cheers. Keep up the hard work.
hahahahahaha that's so great. What a legend for actually eating the rest of the stuff! It was most probably tempura flakes that have already been deep fried which would explain the oily mess. Delicious!
I love your videos so much! Since you do travel videos, I was wondering if you could make a video specifically for what to prep before heading to Japan. I am studying abroad there in about a year, and I always find myself asking the same questions, “what should I do before? Should I change phone plans? Should I exchange my money before hand? Should I learn some “common” kanji?” Things like that. I would greatly appreciate it! Keep being amazing Hannah!
I would absolutely love more videos like this! I live in Japan also but I feel totally clueless in the grocery store especially when it comes to finding healthier alternatives to things like brown rice and multigrain bread and all that jazz. But I also live in a rural area so that could be part of the problem too...
Some people might not be keen on eating horse too. The Kanji for that is 馬 But... I like basashi... 馬刺し which is horse version of sashimi (raw slices of fish) Not rare here at all, offered in many izakaya. There is also torisashi 鳥刺し. This is "raw" chicken (possibly flash boiled), or tori no tataki 鳥のたたき that had been seared for 10 seconds on the edges only. There are hundreds of English articles on how this is apparantly popular, new and trendy and straight out asking for food poisoning. But you never hear about it in Japan. Nor is it new or frequently eaten either.
All your videos are interesting and enlightening. I think making videos about every day life in Japan as you suggested would be very helpful and informative. Cheers👍
I have been watching your videos for some time now and I just now got around to watching your first ones. You are definitely a talented and beautiful woman who is very engaging. You seem be a natural editor and videographer. Keep up the good work. Thank you for your sharing.
I had to learn かつお and だし very quickly when I was there... pretty much couldn't have miso at all, unless I could be bothered to make it myself with a dashi free paste and aaahhh, let's just say I ate A LOT of inari while in Japan. Also the combini staff knew me so well that every time I came in they rushed to get what apparently became my favourite ハッシュポテト ready. Sometimes I had to do laps until it was ready. Fun times
Can of Soda which is covered with a big 3, 5 or 8 % Alc. :'D Don't know how to miss that detail. I am sure the parents wondered of what's going on with their child in the end. All hyper and happy. Last time me being in Japan I enjoyed those little spicy cucumbers at… I think it was Lawson. They seem vegan as well, because it's just Chili, some sweeter spice and baby cucumbers. Daaawww...I miss them and I'll see them in March again. Always enjoy kinda rewatching and finding new good tips and tricks. Thanks, Hannah!
I lived in Korea and I think I took for granted how much English is written on everything. They also have drinking yogurt near the milk but it is also labelled in English. I am dying to know, did you tell that dad? I feel like if that was me I would make that mistake but really appreciate someone letting me know. If it was me I would also have a good laugh about it after, but would love to not make the mistake again. Great video Hannah!
Yeah thankfully there’s a lot more English on foods nowadays than when I first got here but it’s still a little difficult sometimes if you can’t read. And yeah don’t worry, we told the dad haha
For someone who always has problems with dairy products in my local grocery store, I'm sure I'd mess up thoroughly in Japan. BTW, with the nomu stuff, blend a banana for a nice fruit shake.
The lumpy coffee sound and the tub of sadness. Most excellent! Button hole mic.... I never had cereals and milk when I visited. Why have cereals and milk when you can have Onigiri! Zero cocku😂 My guest on the show last week was snacking on squid legs. Looked actually quite tasty.
I dont think people from abroad would think soy sauce and ponzusauce were different each other^^ I am glad that you know Kikkoman is the soy sauce before you came to Japan^^
Peanut cream is delicious. This coming from a peanut butter fan, I believe it can coexist with peanut butter. As far as really good peanut butter, you'd have to go to CostCo and get Skippy. But the one from Gyomusupa is okay. They also sometimes serve whale in school lunches in Japan. That's a big reason why I haven't signed up for it as a teacher here.
I've seen bitter melon sold in Woolies/Coles around here (I'm from Wollognong, so exactly a distinct ethnocultural area) I'm surprised you've never come across it in Australia
Hi Hannah, can you do a video on being vegan in Japan? I travelled to Tokyo and Niseko in early 2017 and as someone who has coeliac disease and is plant based, I found it very difficult to eat. I found myself opting for whatever food so long as it was gluten free. I am going back again in early 2019 and would love some tips and pointers. How do you ask to make sure it's vegan/allergen free? Thanks for your videos!
Love this new vid! Hahaha! I had a friend who bought tons of different cans of chu-hi’s thinking they were sodas as well and her at that time 10 yr old son chugged half and then realized it tasted funny to him, his mom finally realized what it was when she closely looked to see the ALC and boom she was on guilty level 10 lol! Also I had known someone who mistaken tofu as butter and tried to microwave it to melt... no lie.. I couldn’t believe that one either but it’s true. Hahaha! Oh man I miss Japan!
I spent 6 years in Japan and agree with you. I am guilty of enjoying a steak in a restaurant, only to find out later. It’s delicious which may explain why the Japanese are into Whale hunting. BTW, I’m an Aussie now in Victoria. Do you work for Language Resources?
I have made the drinking yogurt mistake. It wasn't the worst mistake because it doesn't taste bad, but it ended up being a very _interesting_ bowl of cereal that morning...
YAAAS! Goya = Bitter Gourd....aaaaand it's BITTER!!! Of course, in South India and Sri Lanka (and in most places where you find South Indians and Sri Lankan Tamils!), you'll find many ways that this vegetable is served! Aaaall of them sans le bitterness, I can happily say! ;) Cut 'em up, salt 'em, leave 'em to drain for about 30 minutes, wash reeeaally well, and then use in whatever dish you like!
Lovely video. It really is important to ask about these kinds especially if you are lost in translation haha. Also it would be great to have a video about vegan life on japan. I always have the impression that japanese people already serve healthy food because they mostly serve vegetables??? :)
A great reason to learn basic Japanese before you go to live in Japan... :P My Favourite is Pre boiled eggs vs raw eggs...Didn't happen to me, but that'd suck haha!
Maybe it’s just a byproduct of living in California but I already knew about all of these? I’m starting to realize this is rare. Also bitter melon is delicious.
Bought to us from a mic comming from a button hole - hehehehe. A friend of mine (from Japan) brings me the weird and wonderful KitKats and other treats back to Melbourne (the coldest city on the planet today)
Oh you said something... sorry was looking at your mike in the button hole 😂. Just Joking (you brought it up). I had an aunt that came back from a visit to japan and she brought a couple of the “Non” alcoholic Ashi beers. Could of fooled me that they were nonalcoholic considering I felt a buzz after drinking them. Whale meat my aunt tried and says “no difference” in taste but just the texture felt weird (told her I would pass on it). Thanks for sharing and interesting to know. Since practically everyone in my family is lactose intolerant. We usually stay away from milk. Cheers
I went to Japan with my ex who is a pretty fussy eater (no sushi, wah!!) and he bit into what he thought was a jam donut - nope, that sugary treat was filled with sweet red bean. I ate it.
As for the Whale, ミンク鯨 says Minke Whale. Not endangered and is clearly (well, clear if you can read) written on the right packet shown in this video (I'm on my phone and can't quite see the text on the left one) So, 鯨 is the Kanji for whale. The left half being 魚(sakana) meaning fish. 京 being capital or a really big number (10 quadrillion) and other less relevant meanings. You may also see 鯨肉. Pronounced either kujira niku or gei niku = whale meat
Nice video (good job working with that shinning curtains). Loved your PdF reference, you beautiful bastard! You could do a "Making friend in Japan" video. I really wonder how "achievable" it is after some... awkward experience with Koreans. Thanks. #BeanFamily
"Peanut butter" = of course, that's just a peanut butter in other countries. but It's sugary sweet in Japan. "Green Tea" = generally that's a sugar-free drink in Japan. but at least it's not in America.
pretty much all of the whale you can buy in grocery stores are Minke whales, which are definitely not endangered. I do not believe that you can buy endangered whale species, because harvesting them would be illegal.
Great video! You are so funny when explaining things. Kawaii. I just moved to Tokyo a week ago and I would love to know about how to dress in Tokyo, specially in summer. I love tank tops and showing my shoulders and my tatoo but I understand japanese women are more reserved. Also, I plan on finding a job soon. So, yeap, that kind of information would be great. See ya!
I’ve got to say, that that is not a good looking piece of meat it wouldn’t have bought and I would never buy a cucumber that looked all gnarly like that. Now that milk would’ve got me. however, I do like yogurt and I don’t drink coffee I have mixed yogurt with cereal, I guess I could live with that mistake. You know, you are very perky do you come by that naturally or is it something you learned because of your job. You are an interesting person and you do interesting videos I look forward to them, thank you
i'll find one & show it to my wife, see what her reaction will be lol :) it be a great Vlog hahaha .... she just loves the original soy sauce flavor lol
I love all your vlogs and your relationship with Yoshie. He is my favorite horse in Super Mario. Lol. Just kidding. I think you and he are great people. Keep doing what you do. And dont be so PG-13. Speak your mind about the experiences you have. Thats what makes it interesting and entertaining and not so choreographed. Loved when you went hiking on an active volcano and found a piece of paper that happen to be your sponsor too. Wink, wink. Lol What are the odds?!!!!!
These “everyday” videos are great. I love the travel ones too and would like to see more, but I really like this kind of content as well. I hope you will Keep making both!
Thanks for the feedback! More “everyday” videos are on their way!
Hannah's voice and accent gives me a feeling that most people claim they get with ASMR. Please make a video where you say "peanut butter" over and over again so I can fall asleep to it.
Hannah, please make videos like these. when i go to japan, i enjoy doing local stuff, then actual tourist spots. thanks great video!
As a fellow vegan who’s going to Japan soon, I’d love more vegan food related content 🙌🏻 always love your travel stuff too ❤️
Mimei and PDR-san already have a lot of content about that related specifically to Tokyo.
I’ve got a couple of vegan videos out already but there’ll hopefully be more soon!
Love the ‘every day’ video Hannah!
This must be so useful for those who’s planning to come to Japan. Nice support, good job! You’re a very thoughtful person. :)❤️
Hey Hannah , I found your channel about a month ago while researching japan stuff for visit in June. Just wanted to say thanks for your videos, you’re great. hahahahahaha that's so great.
I like these types of videos too and how you alternate your posts. Not all types strung together. Useful info for visitors and new residents. 😀
Yeah it’s nice to change things up sometimes!
I feel sad that I didn't find your channel until now. The youtube algorithm failed me. BUT I'm really happy to have all of your videos now!
Good to see you again hannah! Its been a week the last you vlog.
I would absolutely love more videos like this! I live in Japan also but I feel totally clueless in the grocery store especially when it comes to finding healthier alternatives to things like brown rice and multigrain bread and all that jazz. But I also live in a rural area so that could be part of the problem too...
Yeah it’s definitely a steep learning curve at the start! I’m hoping to have a few more of these kinds of videos out in the future so keep an eye out!
Some people might not be keen on eating horse too. The Kanji for that is 馬
But... I like basashi... 馬刺し which is horse version of sashimi (raw slices of fish)
Not rare here at all, offered in many izakaya.
There is also torisashi 鳥刺し. This is "raw" chicken (possibly flash boiled), or tori no tataki 鳥のたたき that had been seared for 10 seconds on the edges only. Another winner Hannah! Thanks for the advice!!
All your videos are interesting and enlightening. I think making videos about every day life in Japan as you suggested would be very helpful and informative. Cheers👍
I’ll get onto it then :)
I have been watching your videos for some time now and I just now got around to watching your first ones. You are definitely a talented and beautiful woman who is very engaging. You seem be a natural editor and videographer. Keep up the good work. Thank you for your sharing.
Would love more of this.
You can drink on the train, at least in Osaka. I've done it a number of times. (including chuhai)
Another fine clip Hannah. Keep it up!
"Let's just jump right into it". Easy there, Phil.
Wow, Another great video, The music has really stepped up to a whole new level of quality since you changed to the new music supplier.
I had to learn かつお and だし very quickly when I was there... pretty much couldn't have miso at all, unless I could be bothered to make it myself with a dashi free paste and aaahhh, let's just say I ate A LOT of inari while in Japan.

Haha ah the good old vegan option of salad and rice! I know it well!
thank you for very informational video...i get really tired trying to explain all these things...i just send them this video link!
I lived osaka for a year. now in uae so much miss the foods in Japan!
I love goya, it's bitter but awesomely healthy! Also, Okinawan people staple food who live longest on Earth.
Hahahaha, that bitter veggie!!! My whole family loves that stuff but me. Great video Hannah! It was very helpful for sure!
More videos like this please!! 🙂
That bitter something is being called bitter melon in Australia and I love it😍
Evapic Li

Evapic Li

"Tub of sadness" - Same 😂😂😂
Can of Soda which is covered with a big 3, 5 or 8 % Alc. :'D
Don't know how to miss that detail. I am sure the parents wondered of what's going on with their child in the end. All hyper and happy.

Great to know, I'm moving next month!
I grew up eating what u describe not a cucumber but as Filipinos call it bitter lemon!

Hanna, you are majestic
I've seen bitter melon sold in Woolies/Coles around here (I'm from Wollognong, so exactly a distinct ethnocultural area) I'm surprised you've never come across it in Australia
Lol. Yep to the milk. I was buying it for my son and he never said anything. Then I had a mouthful of it and was shocked.
Hahaha I can imagine!
Hi Hannah, can you do a video on being vegan in Japan? I travelled to Tokyo and Niseko in early 2017 and as someone who has coeliac disease and is plant based, I found it very difficult to eat. Thanks for your videos!
Hey! I’ve actually already made a video about being vegan in Japan. It’s a few months old now :)
Hahaha! Oh man I miss Japan!
The regular soy sauce, that is Kikkoman. I recognize that label anywhere. But do they have the Kikkoman lemon lime soy sauce in Japan?
Hmmm I’m sure they do but I haven’t really looked very hard. I’ll have to try find it!
Hi from Brazil 🇧🇷!!!
Good job!!!
you talk so BEAUTIFULLY 😍 Subscribed 👍
I spent 6 years in Japan and agree with you. I am guilty of enjoying a steak in a restaurant, only to find out later. It’s delicious which may explain why the Japanese are into Whale hunting. BTW, I’m an Aussie now in Victoria. Do you work for Language Resources?
Wow, useful info! And, i like your style :)
Would be heaps cool to bump into you and Yoshi on my first trip to Japan next year 😂
Most (not all) milk cartons have a small dimple on the top edge of the carton.
Whale is "capital fish" :P
I have made the drinking yogurt mistake. It wasn't the worst mistake because it doesn't taste bad, but it ended up being a very _interesting_ bowl of cereal that morning...
Hahaha yeah it’s not the worst mistake you could make!
informative and fun video. do some videos like this 😊😊😊

Good and helpful information, thank Barry Joseph Evans
Nice video! Can you make a video about vegan products(like soymilk etc) in Japan? I'm moving to Japan soon and don't know how to find vegan stuff.
More vegan videos are on their way!
+Currently Hannah Yay! Thank you!
Okay, that explains the chunky, flavorific coffee that one time...
Lovely video. It really is important to ask about these kinds especially if you are lost in translation haha. Also it would be great to have a video about vegan life on japan. I always have the impression that japanese people already serve healthy food because they mostly serve vegetables??? :)
Thanks! I’ve got a video already about being vegan in japan in general but there’ll be a few more on their way soon.
Hey Hannah. Can you do a video on the Mario kart through Tokyo it looks awesome. Would be cool to see your opinion on it.
A great reason to learn basic Japanese before you go to live in Japan... :P
My Favourite is Pre boiled eggs vs raw eggs...Didn't happen to me, but that'd suck haha!
Ahhh I took a video of that in the grocery store but forgot to add it when I filmed the talking segment. It’s caught me out before for sure haha
Love the everyday pretty please (West Aussie!)
Maybe it’s just a byproduct of living in California but I already knew about all of these? I’m starting to realize this is rare.
Also bitter melon is delicious.
I leant a lot of Japan from shenmue, have you played it
I’d like to hear more tips for gaijin
Bought to us from a mic comming from a button hole - hehehehe. A friend of mine (from Japan) brings me the weird and wonderful KitKats and other treats back to Melbourne (the coldest city on the planet today)

No difference compared to what, exactly?
Do you know of any Filipino markets in Japan or grocery stores that sell Filipino food?
I went to Japan with my ex who is a pretty fussy eater (no sushi, wah!!) and he bit into what he thought was a jam donut - nope, that sugary treat was filled with sweet red bean. I ate it.
Hahaha damn I love sweet red bean.
ゴーヤー in English is called bitter melon :)
Would love to see some vegan food reviews, esp. shojin ryori.
When I get the chance to eat some, I definitely will be making a video of it.
Keep it together Hannah... We need that mind in the gutter ever so often... lol button hole... Zero Kaku... ugh love it!
i was not prepared for 1.31 omg HAHAHA
The peanut butter.... more like peanut sugar.
As for the Whale, ミンク鯨 says Minke Whale. Not endangered and is clearly (well, clear if you can read) written on the right packet shown in this video (I'm on my phone and can't quite see the text on the left one)

Cool video 👍
A tub of sadness. Sounds like my tub with me in it. 😭😁
Nice video (good job working with that shinning curtains). Loved your PdF reference, you beautiful bastard! You could do a "Making friend in Japan" video. I really wonder how "achievable" it is after some... awkward experience with Koreans. Thanks. #BeanFamily
The bean family is strong. 💪🏼
And yes! I’m glad someone caught my PhillyD reference!
Hahaha that yogurt does look like milk! Good job I drink black coffee. I shall get to Japan one day!
Thanks for the vid :)
Do you have any plans to trip to "India"?
your vlogs are too good, hope to see your vlogs covering Indian tourism and culture etc.
So what happened with the guy trying to get his kids drunk on the train? Did you say something to him?
Hahaha yeah we told him
To be on the safe side, parents should only give their kids drinks from pokka ^_^
"Peanut butter" = of course, that's just a peanut butter in other countries. but It's sugary sweet in Japan.
"Green Tea" = generally that's a sugar-free drink in Japan. but at least it's not in America.
Hello from Miami, Florida!
Do you normally cook in Japan?
Yeah 90% of my diet is made at home.
OMG first person to view! Hello from Melbourne Australia :)
Ohh lucky you ! 😢
whenever i buy something to drink i always get something from Suntory... and then brace myself
I'm Japanese live in the US. My kids like peanut cream better than peanut butter.lol
It says ピーナッツクリーム(peamut cream) on the package, so you can't complain that is not peanut butter. cause it's not peanut butter、
She was addressing gaijin that don't read Japanese and look at the pictures on the labels.
pretty much all of the whale you can buy in grocery stores are Minke whales, which are definitely not endangered. I do not believe that you can buy endangered whale species, because harvesting them would be illegal.

*_Mind = Blown_*
beef never looks that dark.....
That's called bitter melon :), I like it a lot
相変わらずお綺麗ですね^ ^
yosshiさんとのmovieも早くみたいです!
The japanese milk look like ours except the kanji but shape and colour, Im a dane
There is no way you can mistake bitter gourd for a cucumber, unless you never seen one ^_^;;
My wife is Chinese & she loves soy sauce excessively , but I limit myself to it because it's just too much sodium :(
The soy sauce with the green cap is low sodium.
i'll find one & show it to my wife, see what her reaction will be lol :) it be a great Vlog hahaha .... she just loves the original soy sauce flavor lol
I love all your vlogs and your relationship with Yoshie. He is my favorite horse in Super Mario. Lol. Just kidding. I think you and he are great people. Keep doing what you do. And dont be so PG-13.
