I always assumed the spoken word at the intro was recorded for this song but today I spent the afternoon binge watching black and white horror films and I actually stumbled upon where it was from! It's from Nightmare Castle, a 1965 film about a man who murders his wife and marries her sister in an attempt to get hold of the family fortune (among other things).

I...I almost couldn't finish the song. Not because it wasn't good (this song with your voice and the lyrics are just so goddamn beautiful it's like listening to an angel) but because the song itself just...I'm shook. This song just...it's so eerie how much you think you're so alone in thinking a certain way, that when you hear it coming from someone else is like a cold splash of water. The lyrics themselves and the emotion you put into this cover...I literally almost couldn't. I almost cried, and that itself takes a lot. Thank you for this amazing cover, rachie! It's absolutely, emotionally stunning.

I would like to think that this song is almost dedicated to the feeling that Dazai tried to portray in No Longer Human. That feeling of being alone in the world without a sense of release. It's impossible to escape the foundation of what you are.

Three years ago this song suddenly played while I was smoking and listening to Japanese songs, I enjoyed it a lot until it ended and that's when I realized that I didn't saw the title of this song. Picked up my phone and accidentally dropped it, I didn't mind it but when I turned it on again, all I could see was a black screen. Three years until now, I've finally found this exact song cover and I love it the same way I loved this song three years ago.

A dear friend of mine passed away, and this song is what she left for me to listen to... I've listened to it every night since they passed now, and it's been an... emotionally challenging experience. I hear her inside the way you sing this song. Thank you for giving me something to remember her by... Thank you very much, Rachie.

I don't know why, but I feel like I really identify with this song. Not only the lyrics, but Rachie's voice and all the emotion behind the song almost made me cry. Saying that, I hope you are okay, Rachie. A few years ago, something happened, and since then I've been dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts and actions. This song makes me feel like I'm looking into a mirror of my past. Maybe I'm wrong, but either way, remember that no matter how much bad there is in the world, there may not be more good, but even a little bit of good is worth holding onto.

Exactly what I thought
I love this version as well as juby's but I realized that the way they sang it and the song Changed its meaning. For juby it could mean saying goodbye to someone alone. Only one person. For this one however. Goodbye for everyone but left unheard. Its hard to understand but in this one she says 'its time to say goodbye' for the other 'I won't see you again.' Each touched my heart 😢
I can't help but also think of Dazai Osamu's book No Longer Human. I know nothing about it though, since I only found out about it from Bungou Stray Dogs XD, but it still comes to mind

It is said that actually the original song was inspired by that book. And yeah, it's basically the author putting his experiences and feelings after WWII. It is basically how a guy feels so alienated from reality he just goes with the motions, pretends to be the funny type but never manages to connect with others. And from there he goes on a spiral of self-destruction.

Im 2 years late to the song but this still applies.
It sucks, it sucks how so many people hear or somewhere in the world are going through so much! The ppl who've had to grow up early, hide the tears, hide their feelings, fake a smile, be exhausted just from leaving their bed, who've harmed themselves to stop or refocus the pain, who've been stolen of time, stolen of their innocence. The ppl who want to end it all because they feel unworthy/not enough/a waste of space but know they can't because they don't want to hurt the ppl who do actually care, they don't want to be like the ppl who hurt them or left them. My problems are probably average compared to what some of yall are going through so I have no right to say this, especially since im a hypocrite, but please just keep fighting or going on, for you, for the ppl who didn't make it, for the ppl who care about you.
Think about this, how do you know it won't get better if you assume? You don't because you haven't seen your future and the only one who can change and choose which path you take is you. Whether you stay and keep fighting for your happiness or you end it all and never get a chance at that happiness.

a young girl who Is in a hospital And Was looking at her window, she Sees Friends playing tag and having fun, she sighed sadly recalling the time where she got hit by a car and recieved a fatal Injury, her friends would come day by day to cheer her up,cause She couldnt use her legs anymore but she knew this is permanent but there was one way to fix all of this, but she wasnt sure if she was ready for it. One night she looked up to the sky only to see the moon shining brightly and thats when she finally decided she agreed to the special procedure, one day in the emergency room where she saw a body inside a tube, then without even knowing she had her new body, A robot body, finally able to move freely now without worrying she runs to her friends and coutinues life even tho she knew she wasnt human

I come back to this late at night to yell(cry) at the world, thank the goddess for sound dampening wall panels.
I used to do that when I had a real long low period. That feeling of being trapped and waiting until I was alone and home. This song would help to channel all of those feelings and let them out. Thank god I had concrete walls as well.
An update on this, I still cry for other reasons, but I'm finally getting to transition. My father passed away of cancer shortly after my first post, and I have a loving fiancée.
It can get better, but coming back here keeps me grounded❤
