A kezdettől, 1970-től 2010-ig eltelt 40 évben a Föld napja világméretű megmozdulássá vált: több mint egymilliárd ember vesz részt valamilyen környezeti eseményen ezen a napon. A nemzetközi Föld Napja Hálózat 174 országban több mint 15 000 szervezettel dolgozik azon, hogy kialakítsák "az egyetlen eseményt, amelyet az egész világon egyszerre ünnepelnek, mindenféle származású, vallású és nemzetiségű emberek".

Arról, hogy az ember része a világnak:
Az ember, mérhetetlen gőgjében és hiúságában, hajlandó elhinni, hogy a világ törvényei ellen is élhet, megmásíthatja azokat és büntetlenül lázadhat ellenök. Mintha a vízcsepp ezt mondaná: „Én más vagyok, mint a tenger.” Vagy a szikra: „Rajtam nem fog a tűz.” De az ember semmi más, mint egyszerű alkatrésze a világnak, éppen olyan romlandó anyag, mint a tej vagy a medve húsa, mint minden, ami egy pillanatra megjelenik a világ nagy piacán, s aztán, a következő pillanatban, a szemét- vagy a pöcegödörbe kerül. Az ember, testi mivoltában, nem is magas rangú eleme a világnak; inkább csak szánalmasan pusztulásra ítélt anyagok összessége. A kő, a fém is tovább él, mint az ember.

In the 40 years since its inception, from 1970 to 2010, Earth Day has become a worldwide movement: more than a billion people participate in some environmental event on this day. The international Earth Day Network works with more than 15,000 organizations in 174 countries to create "the only event celebrated all over the world at the same time by people of all backgrounds, religions and nationalities".

About the fact that man is part of the world:
Man, in his immeasurable pride and vanity, is willing to believe that he can live against the laws of the world, violate them and rebel against them with impunity. It is as if the drop of water is saying: "I am different from the sea." Or the spark: "The fire won't catch on me." But man is nothing more than a simple part of the world, just as perishable as milk or bear meat, as everything that appears one moment on the world's great market, and then, the next moment, goes into the garbage or the cesspool costs. Man, in his physical nature, is not even a high-ranking element of the world; rather, it is just a collection of materials that are pitifully doomed. Stone and metal also live longer than humans.
