It must be the right combination for you. You should try all combinations and break it down to the smallest movement. And listen closely! I changed mine to pmia after focal distonia. And I learnd it again between 40 and 50. And yes, I feel and enjoy playing far more than 40 years ago.

In my case, I had to find a movement that felt natural as a whole, for all 3 fingers, to sound better and reach high speed. I like tremolo at high speed, as it gives the impression of crescendo/decrescendo on the repeated notes and over the melody.
Praticing slowly, focusing on each finger, and putting everything together afterwards, just wouldn't work for me.
And my tremolo is PIMA, as PAMI just wasn't for me neither.
I guess my approach is quite unconventional, and I'm not recommending it - it just works for me 😅
Btw, I had a masterclass with David Russell (a long time ago), and he told he puts just a little emphasis on the A finger, as it's the first of the 3 notes
