Enjoyed your comparison Bruce regarding the two bikes and liked all the comment's from your subscribers. Your mate's bike looks great and certainly has character. I've never ridden a 500 bullet. However i do like my 350 Classic for its smooth engine and very easy handling. To help the bikes power to weight ratio , I've slightly reduced its weight by removing the rear seat and pegs and even shed several pounds myself😂. But like you I would like to see 500 version of the Classic for that extra power. Thanks again.
I've got a 2020 classic 500. Very nice bike for me as I live in rural upstate NY USA where the speed limit is 55 and most roads are under that. I never take it on a highway because it just doesn't make me feel comfortable with elevated speeds. It has its own peculiar vibe and as an older guy (74) it suits me fine. There really is something wonderful about these old school , basic bikes.
A nice comparison of the classic and the bullet. I almost bought the 350 classic dark and then remembered the last 500 classic the Tribute black, i looked around and found one last March with 278 miles on the clock, I love it for its old school charm.
You mention Dunbar a few times, I worked at Torness power station in the construction phase for more than 3 years. Dunbar was a lovely town. Brings back good memories.
I moved here for 6 years then away for 9 years to East Fortune, then back to Dunbar 3 years ago when I sold my house and moved in with G 😍 Love it here 👍
That was yet another great video Bruce. Thank you. I really do regret trading out of my 2008, iron barrel, 5-speed, 500 "Army" all those years ago. What a foolish mistake that was and how I wish I still owned that cracking bike !!! It was one of the last carburetor bikes too and was such a pleasant, economical commuter and tourer. I'm really considering returning to Royal Enfield nowadays, as the bikes just seem to stay so useable and reliable for not too much money and they continually but sensibly improve. Great videos. Please keep them coming.
Hi Mike, a lit of 500 Bullet owners now ride the J series 350 bikes and say that despite the slightly less bhp and torque the new generation of bikes are great for their bombproof reliability So maybe a test ride of one may be of interest 👍😁 Loads more films on the way next year! 👍👍👍 Cheers Bruce
Yep. Absolutely Bruce. I do indeed plan to take several rides on all of the 2024 Royal Enfield products early in the year. I think I would like to re-connect with the brand once again and have at least one of these excellent machines in my stable once more. Thank you for your continually excellent videos and the journeys contained within each one. They are just so good. Always worth my taking the time to enjoy each one.@@Coastriderscotland
I am from India.. I am also a owner of RE Bullet Std500 UCE Twinspark 2015 model but with "Carburetor engine". Unfortunately now due to strict BS6 pollution norms the company stopped the production of both 500cc Bullet Std & Classic models. I feel very lucky that I have a pure "Retro" bullet with simple Carburetor, No digital meters, No efi & sensors, no ABS, no Alloy, no tubeless tyres etc. Its always a great satisfaction & feeling when I move on roads & offroads with a cruising speed on my Bullet Std500.
Very nice comparison. I am just waiting for my almost new (62 miles) Classic 350 to be delivered. Thought about the 500s, but decided to go for the less vibratory choice when one came up.
The new Classic 350 is a great bike!, I think nostalgia often overcomes practicality with some things and reality is we’re prob better off with reliability daily when we want to get from A to B with minimum issues, 😁👍 Cheers Bruce
Interesting comparison, and one I made today at my local dealer. I have a Classic 500 and took out a Classic 350 reborn. I wanted to see if it was going to be worth me trading in my 4 year old 500 for a shiny 350. I've concluded that the change isn't going to happen. The engine in the 350 is super smooth and the gearbox is as good as any other I've ridden and better than a lot of more expensive machines. Looks wise, well it's every bit as pretty as my Classic. For me that's where the good points stop. I found the riding position too cramped for my six foot frame and the lack of torque was disappointing. I could get used to the power but the riding position was too much of a compromise. Strangely I've ridden a Meteor 350 and found that bike both livelier and a lot roomier. I understand how people love the 350 though, especially if they haven't owned or ridden 500, even with its foibles.
Thanks for sharing your findings! Both bikes have their fans and that’s interesting you share your findings on the Meteor 350 as I too have read a lot Meteor owners prefer that to ride to the Classic 350👍😁 Cheers Bruce
Hiya mate the 500 has great appeal but im too addicted to your bike to turncoat now. But is beautiful. Great vid as usual take care see you soon. ✌😎.Si.
Good comparison, I agree on the classic 350 high beam switch it feels a bit of a fumble compared to a traditional setup, yeah that road marking at the bridge looks more like a space invader than a bicycle! 😂😂
Doesn't take long to get hooked on the 500 Bruce, I think your bank balance will be suffering the consequences soon 😄. The 350 has the looks and is great fun to ride, the 500 is a time machine. Within a few miles of riding mine I knew I was going to buy it.
That’s a lovely 500. I would love one, but nor with my wee leggies. The decals and badge on tank are lovely. Think i need to look at saddle bags, for Bumble. Enjoyed the scenery, such a nice part of the country. Now I feel bad. Even my granny can put it on centre stand. I can’t due to being too sore on my abdomen.😢 I need to go try that technique Bruce. Pity I can’t see where you position your feet.😅 I just have a big smile on my face watching these bikes. The beautiful sound when riding, so cool. I meant for you to have a go on Bumble. Hopefully next year. Oh loved that bridge down on the harbour, parking next to the creels, lol, we did too.😊 Best regards……Mark.
Hi Mark there is something magical about Royal Enfields of all ages, if I had to explain to someone what it is I would simply say ‘if you don’t get it there is no point explaining as you will never understand’ 🤣😁👍👍
Greetings from Kent. What a great comparison video ,i am a owner of a mildly customised 2019 interceptor which is a joy to ride but i would love to own a classic 500 as a 2nd bike 😊 if only i had the finances to have both, i ride the country lanes with a relaxed ride as its more enjoyable than main roads.
Yes these motorcycles have mechanical simplicity which is a plus as you can enjoy a unhurried ride to escape from modern life, it's how motorcycling used to be when I was a younger man 😊
I'm with you all the way on this one. Now, I grasp the concept (I'm not necessarily waving the flag for it) that these engines must be tweaked and tuned to comply with increasingly stringent emission standards - You can send your postcard to the World Economic Forum for that one. To the CEO of Royal Enfield, should your eyes grace this message, remember the iconic bike designs that propelled you to fame. I'm all for modern reliability, but for heaven's sake, keep the essence of classic bikes intact! Now, onto biggest thorn in my side - the exhaust note of the new J series engines, dubbed 'classic reborn'. Frankly, they sound as thrilling as your average Japanese plastic blow-dryers. And what choice do the buyers have? None, but to swap out the exhaust and catalytic converters for a free-flowing pipe, just to recapture a hint of the true Royal Enfield classic rumble. This is the classic tale of losing your soul in the quest to juggle too many balls.
Im with you on all the modern regs strangling them, hopefully Hitchcocks UK and other likewise RE parts shops will bring out more aftermarket goodies for them, In that news i just bought a Classic 350 engine from a breakers from a CatB insurance right off, and i hope to drop it into an old Royal Enfield or other 50s/60s British bike and have the bombproof motor but possible a carb and as little modern electrics along with drum brakes and traditional speedo etc, hopefully in a pre 65 trail/trials guise and be MOT Tax exempt 😁👍 Be a garage film up next week on the motor and my ideas etc 👍 Cheers Bruce
Hi did your mate swop his seat to the one he has fitted on the film or did it come with it fitted?, Am wondering what's the comparison between them both (standard & his current seat), has he any comments. Thanks
Every bike has its performance and handling range. If you accept the 350 for what it is, all's good. If people want a sports or motorway tourer, they'll be disappointed. The 500 is a great looking machine, and every time I see Bullet Wanderer's I want one. Back in reality, I rarely use A roads never mind M-ways. RE will probably make a bigger single at some point, and it'll almost certainly be water-cooled to get round emissions.
True about any new bigger singles will no doubt be water cooled, I think both bikes have a character and both are good and probably it’s down to our individual wants in a bike, In-line the bombproof reliability of the 350 for daily transport, others love the 500 for its character and can live with the odd niggle 😁👍👍
Hopefully the Bullet 500 wiring loom has also been improved compared to the one fitted to my '93 one. When the electrical problems started after 6 years that was the point where I gave up on it due to the "interesting" way they made the loom. Hopefully the EFI does not have the problem I had where the bike continually retarded itself over time. 🤣 I still have fond memories of it, especially the neutral-finder, and it looked absolutely stunning when I fitted a single seat, deeper-valanced front 'guard and vintage hard panniers.
My 350 classic is annoyingly abrupt when rolling off throttle... hunting on and off with just micro adjustments to the throttle. I was hoping the Fuelx lite controller would alleviate this...but seems your bike still has a jerking throttle. Do you still like the Fuelx?
@Coastriderscotland I thought he said your throttle was jerky, and you replied that it was first-generation fuel injection. I love my bike, but it is not super smooth. When I accelerate up to speed and then roll off just to maintain or slow a bit, it lurches between speeding up and slowing down. Carburetors and vinyl music are analog...transitions are smooth, low resolution fuel injection, like digital images and music seems plagued with digital artifacts.
I have both. 350 better bike overall but 500. I love the motor. 350 similar speed but you have to work it. 500 just lopes up hills with all the torque. Feels much more long legged. On 350 in top I often go for another non existent gear. On 500 often in 4th thinking its top. One is retro. One is classic
Watching hitchcocks dna filter vid and I.m Almost convinced. But then I rarely ride full throttle on 350 anyway. Was looking at the graph and most of gain is north of 3500. Then I think we'll that's 100 quid. I can spend it on fuel. If I want to go fast I can get a bigger bike. Another difference in the bikes is speedo on my 500trials is near spot on. 350 usual 10% ish high. It's rare you get an accurate speedo. Always assumed its to keep you on safe side.

Good day sir. Could you help me please ? My classic 500 is just fine by me and losing ANY hp or torque by "upgrading" to the new 350 isn't gonna happen. I live at a mile high elevation in the US and, that alone sucks power out of any normally aspirated engine. They're wonderful machines as long as one doesn't expect more than they can give.
