वयाच्या 22 व्या वर्षी पहिल्याच प्रयत्नात यूपीएससी मध्ये यश मिळवलेला समर्थ शिंदे यांनी त्याचे अनुभव सांगताना “स्पर्धा परीक्षेची तयारी करणाऱ्या विद्यार्थ्यांना तयारी का करायची ? आणि कशी करायची ?” या दोन्ही सर्वांत महत्त्वाच्या प्रश्नांची उत्तरे चाणक्य मंडल मध्ये मिळाली असे त्याने आवर्जून सांगितले. धर्माधिकारी सरांच्या मार्गदर्शनचा प्रीलिम, मुख्य परीक्षा आणि मुलाखतीमध्ये मोलाचा वाटा होता हे त्याने नमूद केले. मुलाखतीमध्ये तर अगदी टाय कुठली घालू याचा सल्ला देखील सरांनी दिला. अशा सगळ्या गोष्टींमुळेच मुलाखतीमध्ये भारतात दुसऱ्या क्रमाकांचे सर्वोच्च गुण मिळवता आल्याचे समर्थने सांगितले.
तसेच केवळ स्पर्धा परीक्षा हे म्हणजेच आयुष्य नसून जीवनाची खरी स्पर्धापरीक्षा ही उत्तीर्ण झाल्यानंतर सुरू होणार आहे, याची त्याला पूर्ण जाणीव असल्याचे त्याने सांगितले. धर्माधिकारी सरांना अभिप्रेत असेलेला भारताचा कार्यकर्ता अधिकारी म्हणून मिळेल त्या सेवेत, मिळेल त्या केडर मध्ये पुढील ४० वर्षे मनापासून सेवा करायला तयार असल्याचा शब्द त्याने यावेळी दिला.
