- I don't often think about my feet and how nice they feel, but when a product like the Dunlop Explorer Purofort safety-rated rubber boots come along I have to. Check out how the Dunlop Explorer Purofort with Vibram soles and Bama sockets have changed the way I think about keeping my feeting warm in winter. The days of needing huge bulky winter boots with thick socks are a thing of the past with these Bama sockets. Check out how simple it is to keep your feet warm and cozy without the bulk. With 4 years of first-hand experience working in these boots day in and day out, I've a believer. Check them out.

Most 'Underground miners' wear Bama socks in their rubber steel toed mining boots, in 43 years of underground mining, Bama socks were always in my boots.😉
Man this is a very good video wow. I’m buying them tomorrow just because of this video
Good video. I'd like to add that the Purofort line by Dunlop is named so because they are made by polyurethane (pu) which offers very good insulation against cold and stays flexible. However Purofort boots dissolve just by aging after about 10 years. (Look for vids on YT.) Thus when you buy some mind the production data on the box or under the sole. (A circle with two digits which are the production year, and an arrow pointing at the month on the circumference of the circle.)
By the way, this is the more expensive Explorer model with the Vibram sole for slippery surfaces. The cheaper version with a sole with big cleats for traction in mud is called Purofort Thermo plus. They are famous for their look of a tractor sole.
Thanks for sharing that!
I've taken a liking to using Neos Overshoes (non insulated Adventurer model). I use them a couple of ways. First as they are designed to be used over a set of regular shoes or boots (non insulated). These will keep you feet warm and dry down to about -20C or so. Second way I use them is with a set of pack boot liners that I got from Marks Work Wearhouse in Canada. I wear the liners inside the Neos Overshoes. I also made a couple of sets of insoles from a cheap foam anti fatigue mat I got at the dollar store. These are great, when the temps get colder than -20C. The Neos themselves are quite flexible and work much like a mukluk, only waterproof.
Up until I started using the NEOS overshoes, I've always suffered with cold feet regardless of what winter boot I was using. I even tried the sockettes you linked to, but found that my feet became cold after a couple hours of use.
You sound like you've found the right combo. I'm fortunate the sockets and dunlops keep me warm. If they were still making me cold I'd be looking for something like you're describing
I use those boots too, they are great, I would add to your great commentary that it's wise to buy these boots in store, not online. the sizing is finicky and if you get it wrong it's so wrong. If you are getting the liners size them in store. These boots are indestructible but also unforgiving. Make sure they fit, and your money will be well spent.
Yeah all good points Chris
I have both green and black purofort.. let me tell you the green one without vibram is less slippery (on ice) than the vibram one.. maybe because they are new? Im kinda disappointed ive not bought another pair of green instead of the black vibram
That is surprising to me as well. I always thought the black purofort was superior on ice. I’ve got the vibram soles on 2 other pairs of my boots as well
These boots are hard to come by at the moment, I finally found a pair and can't wait to get them. Muck boots suck on drilling rigs.
They are really good as you know. I can imagine lots of people are after them once they find out how good they are
Was going to buy this boot for $300 today but tried on a pair of Baffin ice bears and they were WAY more comfortable. Paid $50 less than the Dunlop’s and they’re rated for -50 as well.
Yeah if it fits I'd be game for them as well. I can only speak to the Dunlops though as I wear them all the time. Try bama sockettes inside the baffins to keep the sweat away if you find your feet getting cold.
thegatesofsleep the Dunlop’s last longer all the same I had the Baffin ice bears too and the Dunlop lasted couple years longer I’m on my second pear of Dunlop’s and I wouldn’t have had to get them yet other then I cut the toe in one I got to say the first pear took time to break in but the new one’s are way better not bad at all I has them on for 12 hours a day in the freezers
Scott Mugford I’m not dissing Dunlop’s at all. I had a pair for 6 years and beat the crap out of them. Great boot. I just found the baffins fit my feet better.
@@scottmugford1123 I wouldn't mind trying a newer pair of dunlops vs the baffins but then again, I wouldn't want to pay that bill just for a test run.
@@thegatesofsleep yeah I wonder if that's the reason others have also said they prefer the baffins as well.
thanks big fella. just moved to alberta, i work outside and im terrified for my toes!!!
You'll like em no doubt
Hi Sandy,
Did you buy one size up from normal to fit the Bama socks? Don’t think you mentioned it in the video but I think it’s very important. I just ordered these boots from marks but had to buy 2 sizes to try, one of which I will return.
I found that the normal size I wear with bamas turned out to be the best fit. One size up was just a bit too big. I wear very thin socks with my bamas if that heloa
@@sawingwithsandy Thanks. Usually I'm an 8.5 or 9, and trying on the 9's with Bama's (size 8-9) it feels really tight. I'm just worried if I go with the 10's and I decide to not wear the Bama's one day, it'll be way too loose.
great work wellies, bought mine Explorer 2 years ago...job-mates have saw mine,
lent them for 2 days to mine great friend...one week and all had his pair of Explo-
rer at job...give to all as PPE for winter by the firm...and drive a truck with those
is easy...a little bit difficult drive a car, best if your car has automatic gear best
then manual gear...
I’m glad the boots have worked out for your whole crew. They’re still going strong go for me and now they are at least 5 years old
@@@sawingwithsandy lost mine first pair of thermo plus after 10 winters
of use....long cutts over the leg-part....bought Explorer and for me is the
Best Winter Wellies to use on very slippery surface...drove a truck with
freezer back....walk on steel surface after you opened doors with -20C°
inside and you don't slip away....very great wellies
I am wanting to get a pair of those. My boot size is 13. I know some boots are made bigger. Should I go with a 13, or go with a size 12?
I feel like these boots fit pretty close to my actual shoe size.
@@sawingwithsandy Thank you. I have been contemplating for awhile about getting a pair of Dunlops. After watching your video going to get a pair.
Im buying a pair. Thanks for the video bud.
Great video man. You explained it very well. Thank you.
Great advice . Thank you 👍
Trying to decide between these and a winter bicycling shoe for a winter commuting/bike packing shoe. Is the ankle flexible enough to ride a bike with?
Id rather go for a pair of Astars Tech 3 if you ride a bike.
Get video ! Thanks for the review. 👍🏿 I Work in -15 degree temperature
Happy to help Monte. I'm still using the original pair after all these years. Really good boots
If I wear 9.5 (US men) would I have to go a size higher being 10 or lower being 9? Would the Bama socks also affect the sizing? Also do you sweat a lot in the summer with them due to the insulation or is it moderate sweating like any other footwear?
I don’t wear the bamas in the summer. Just winter. I normally wear closer to a 10 shoe size but found the 9.5boot to fit best even with the bamas
This is so helpful, thanks! :)
Glad I could help
I am glad you did this very informative video. I had my set up of these items a little over 5 years ago , winter temperatures at times here in Canada at times , reaches even below -40 celcius ( been there, done that often ). These boots are awesome, I have one comment otherwise. If you are in doubt at ANYTIME, no matter the season or even a proposal marriage reason before the Big Day,
put on a pair of DUNLOPS. No cold feet here. Thanks again for sharing, I am now subscribed and bell notified. Have a great day.
Thanks for watching Steve. Sure are good boots.
Are these steel toe? I just bought a pair of boots like these from Walmart $22.48 before 6% sales tax. They just say Waterproof slip Resistant on the side. Im not sure what temp they are rated for but I think they'll work just fine.
These are composite toe. CSA approved.
@@douganderson7002 his feet got very, very, wet and cold LOL
Great Review
Just wondering is this good for hot weather? Thanks
The sockets are, but not the boots
3 pairs so far, both kids love them, and it appears now they are changing the style to the field pro... i dont think the old purafort are gonna be around longafter the current stock depletes... sure the new ones might be as good, might even be better, but nobody in this house likes the new style at all. sad... really sad.
Can you machine wash the bama's?
Cool video. Can you do a video with them on your feet too? I'm guessing you wear your pant legs over the boots too?
Yeah sure. I'll make a video soon and get that put up. As you could see in this video I literally just took the boot off my foot and that's why you can see the snow still on them haha. They don't come off my feet too often unless I'm headed into the house that's for sure.
yeah I saw the snow on them lol. I'll keep an eye out for your video with them on your feet.
I just posted a video with me wearing them as I normally do when I'm out and about. I normally tuck my pants into them.
ruclips.net/video/SpsElK_7Tcc/видео.html
Lol... I make those ones....
@@benuitraalte Really eh? It's a great product. I just wish they weren't so expensive. They are like 300 dollars with taxes here in Canadian Dollars. OUCH
hello i live in toronto canada does anyone know if union 183 covers these boots
Appreciate you brother 🙏🏿
At minus 35C and below they turn into casts and loose a lot of flexibility. At that temp they don't keep feet very warm anyway even with bamas. They are not a deep freeze winter boot. Worn these for many years, very familiar. Great boots but have temp limitations. Just an fyi.
What's a better option below -35C?
@@CanadianBullFrog There are options for safety boots with temp rating of -100
@@michaeldbhawker3556 where
@@CanadianBullFrog Marks has some. Industrial clothing supply stores
Are the soles removable?
Yes they are
Merci thanks you
Merci! Thank you for coming along for the video
How do you manage to wear this during the summer? are they not hot to wear during summer months?
Yeah I roll them down a bit but they do get hot so normally I wear them just when its wet out in the summer.
Oh ok.. i find myself doing the same during all seasons i live on the border of washington state and british columbia and i only have a normal rubber boot and they always get hot but the dew in the mountains gets me soaked to my knees in 2 minutes for most of the morning so i wear them anyway. as for the cold months -30-40 here is pretty typical especially during the nights even if it was nice out.. so i need some new boots these look great and the video was really helpful i appreciate it!
@@shaneprosser8203 glad you liked it. In the winter I wear the bama sockettes from Mark's and they keep me dry and warm. I'm sold on the quality of the boots as well.
They look like the real deal it appears theer rating is 8 out of 10 the wellies I bought lasted 20 days then split under the sole the cost of those were 35e I would give them 1 out of 10 BAU DOU name was on the box not for mucking around bekina are also a good wellie got 15 Mts out of a pair
I’m still wearing mine today
in my opinion ALL rubber boots suck when its real cold out. coldest boot material there is.
You have to try the bamma sockettes. I was sceptical until I tried them. They really do a great job even in non-rubber boots
