I tried this today using a cut up foil type window shield reflector and it worked very well while I walked three miles in 29 degree weather.. I placed the foil under my insole so that it wouldn't shift around. Re;Your video...just what the world needs is a rooster with an attitude.
I have some laminate underlay that is a thin foam with reflective material on one side. However, the reflective Material comes off easy. Do you think it would help to make 2 insoles with it, installed under the regular insole with one facing up and one facing down?
hi AA, Yes I think that would work, great idea!.I would suggest you glue them together otherwise they will slide around on each other and one can bunch up under your feet. The trick will be using enough glue to keep them glued together but not so much that you feel glue bumps under your feet. Also always wear 2 pair of socks...a thin sock liner and a heavier outer sock, I like wool a lot. I tend to wear hiking socks when it's super cold and hking sock liner. I'm cheap so I buy clearence from Sierra Trading Post (online). Please let me know how it goes!
I need to try this. I have an insulated food bag that is made of this kind of material and I am going to use it to make the insoles. I once purchased foot warmers that were made of charcoal, it works great but it only lasted one day and they are expensive at $5.00. A rooster provides the best background music for a video :) he is singing.
@@OldSchoolPrepper Its too bad i chose a smaller boot size than i needed for this to work. Blood circulation is huge and i can only do it with one sock. Lesson learned lol.
My only problem is when my feet get warm while wrapped up in snow boots, they perspire more causing them to be come super super freezing. I basically get wet feet when it's nice and warm in my boots. Wet and cold don't mix well in the snow. any tips?
I"m not an expert but they do sell foot antiperspirant, often in a lotion that's all it is is excessive foot sweating...that and wicking socks or wool socks which stay warm when wet...good Luck that sucks!
true story: 3 days ago I was wearing my boots (same in the video) took the dog on a walk. 35F degrees here in Oregon...sprinkling. Midwalk it began to downpour...I was wearing a waterproof rain jacket which was long enough to end at the top of my boots...so by the time I got home I had a literal 1/2C of water in each boot...BUT I had wool sock on so while my feet were wet they were not cold, just swimming in water. My legs were freezing (I was wearing jeans ..my bad) but feet warm. I love some good wool socks and a good boot

It works for about 2 miles of walking. After that the mylar coating rubbs off. Tried this camping in 15° weather. The mylar bubble pad works well as a tent foot print and also can be used for lining the inside of your tent to keep the cold ground away.
Just finished another day of deer hunting in Wisconsin. Instead of using Reflectix I bought an emergency blanket and cut 2 pieces. Folded them multiple times and made molds around my existing liners. Works much better and doesn't add 1/4 of thickness. The mylar still rubbs off walking but not on the inside layers when quandary folded.

@@Lauren-vd4qe the problem you will initially have is that this reflective material is a bit slippery when it first goes in place. Perhaps put them in a tennis shoe or work boot until you imprint your foot on it (you will literally see an outline of your foot) and then transfer to the ankle boot. do you wear a sock or barefoot in the boot? if a sock (or nylon) consider getting thin wool or thin ski socks. An old hiking trick is to wear a very thin sock (or a toeless seam nylon) inside of a thicker wool sock for more warmth and no blisters....it does work....I'm not sure if you could do that with your ankle boot but maybe a thin ski sock would work. I just bought some and they are nylon thin (got them from Sierra.com clearance section). Good Luck!

I used some tetrapak cardboard from an empty milk carton I wanted to upcycle. It has aluminium lining. Will try to see how it feels walking around.

My toes get cold I need something that covers my foot the felt liners are not enough.
give this a try, i'd also suggest wool socks and heated liners, they do sell battery operated liners. Good luck Kathy
