I remember first playing when I was five years old or so. My family had one of those Mac computers where the back looked like the nose of an airplane. Good times!
@@windbreaker1701 I want to know who is making these new maps and physics (forge and anvil)?? I thought this was kind of a dead game. Man, i'd love to get back into this.
Hi @Captain Goomba I made a lot of the maps shown here -- advantages of editing the video myself ;) -- but a bunch of them come from other members of the Marathon community. It's a small, tight-knit community these days, but there are still people who play and create content. There's a modern map editor, Weland, which works well if you can get it to run on your OS. There are some other apps too, like Atque and ShapeFusion, which emulate features in Forge and Anvil. I'd recommend checking out pfhorums.com for more info, and simplici7y.com for modern Marathon content. We also have a discord which is pretty active -- there's a link to it in the description of this video. I hope you get back into it! -wb
@@windbreaker1701 dude, hell yeah. I'd love to check this out. How exciting!!! I still have my custom maps, monsters, and weapons, with modified physics, mostly for multiplayer. For example, I gave each weapon a 2nd function (proxy bomb for flamethrower, AOE charged shot for fusion pistol, 1HKO sniper shot for smg, etc). I created a solo campaign too. It'd be fun to make some new maps for the community. I'll do some research. Thanks again!!
00:00 - 6:05 Yessssss!!! this brings me back to my Marathon days! It's exactly as I remember it. How awesome! 6:05 Hmmmmm...... OK some things have changed a bit..... but hey, rock on!
That level that you play in from 6:05 to 6:55 looks like a level that all Marathon players and fans would play on New Year's Day. 😁 I am a die hard Marathon Trilogy fan and used to play the Aleph One Marathon versions on my laptop a few years ago but i always found that the multiplayer games on Aleph One engine used to suffer a lot from lag. I was always trying to find ways to minimize the lag on my laptop so that i could play a more enjoyable multiplayer match but i never found a way. One of the reasons i read online for the lag in the Aleph One Marathon online multiplayer matches was that the multiplayer modes of the original Marathon games were never created to be played online and that they were only created to be played using Apple's proprietary "Appletalk" local area networks(This i know about since i was a big Apple Macintosh fan and gamer in my childhood and pre teen years, grew up with the original Marathon Trilogy when it came out in the 90s, had 2 Macintosh computers in a room and used to play against my brother using an Appletalk cable). Yet, i can see in this video that in these matches that you are playing in, the lag is virtually nonexistent. Is there something that you did to minimize or eliminate the lag?. Has the Aleph One engine been improved with the newer, more recent versions, multiplayer wise, in such a way that the lag is now gone?. I would like to know.
I would say online matches still suffer from a bit of lag, but if the players are generally close together (ie, on the same continent), then the games are definitely playable. These matches don't appear to have any lag mainly because this video was made using film playback, so none of the lag that may be taking place is apparent here. I'm not sure why you would be having significant lag in online matches, though. Maybe if you live outside North America, but luckily there are a few other folks who play from other parts of the world. I'd definitely try to play again. There's a discord community linked in the description, which is pretty active, and occasionally organizes multiplayer games. Thanks for watching!
@@windbreaker1701 I live in Puerto Rico. The other players could be located in the U.S. and other countries and since distance plays a part in how much lag the players can experience in a match, that could probably explain the reason for all the lag that i am experiencing. Thanks for answering. Cheers!.
Can anyone help me figure out how to play Marathon multiplayer online?! I totally didnt even know you could still do this! can i run it through Aleph One and just simply find a lobby??
Yes, generally people play Marathon Infinity online through Aleph One. You can click Join Network Game and it will take you to the lobby, though there aren't games hosted often anymore. The best way to get some games going these days is to join the Marathon chat server on Discord if you use that. There's a whole section for people to post if they're looking for games, and another section that automatically posts if games are being hosted. There's a link to the server in this video's description. Thanks for watching!
Not many games are hosted online these days, but your best bet would be to join the Marathon discord server, linked in the description, and keep an eye out for games there. There is a role you can join where you get notified when people are looking for games or hosting them.
You can download the Aleph One port for Marathon Infinity here: alephone.lhowon.org/ Most people play Infinity for multiplayer. The Marathon Discord server also has people organize multiplayer games; there's a link to the server in the description.
That my friend is from a map called "THE PERFECT FRIGGIN' RAINBOWSTORM" in Wrk Maps. It's a resized version of a map I made 3 or 4 years ago. One of many novelty maps that are played semi-frequently online, same with the map FISHES at 8:02. You can download it here: simplici7y.com/items/wrk-maps
Man this game takes me so way back when I played the first Marathon.
I was pretty young I had no idea what the game was about but I enjoyed it.

Please upload more of this, man. Marathon cannot be forgotten.
I've been uploading films since I first posted this one -- I'm almost to 30 at this point!
@@windbreaker1701 That's great, dude! I started to play Marathon a couple of years ago during late high school.
