I love,to watch Jonathan Winters, there aren't any Comedians like him nowadays. He ways had a clean skit. Loved the way that he was so quick with the ad LIBS. Miss you Mr Winters you always made me laugh.
Even though I didn’t- regularly - watch “The Tonight Show” - I have NEVER EVER seen Johnny Carson laugh as hard as he does - EACH & EVERY time - when Jonathan Winters was a guest !
Not saying he laughed hard each and every time these guests came on, but I never seen him laugh as hard with these guys on: Don Rickles, Robin Williams, Winters himself, Rodney Dangerfield, George Carlin, Tim Conway, those are some of the examples.
I thank God for you tube. Late 80s early 90s kid and I never saw Mr. Winters on live tv, but this man was genuinely funny. No profanity, no vulgarity, and as far as humor, he was and is still light years ahead of today's comedians.
Agreed. On occasions he could throw in a bit of what used to be called "off color" but nothing vulgar, nothing directly filthy or crude in the vein of what "comedy" has become since the era of Eddie Murphy.
What treat: A Jonny Winters appearance I have never seen before. Thirteen minutes and change of stream-of-consciousness brilliance, and Carson, yet again, displays brilliance of his own.
Part of what makes Winters hilarious is you never know what will come out of his mouth or what character with an accent will sprout up. He makes me cry laughing 😂.
Jonathan Winters was the rare comic that could tell long stories or short one-liners. He is great with the old Depression stories in Ohio, especially. Robin Williams said he learned his trade mostly from Jonathan Winters. A timeless talent.
McMahon had an infectious laugh which Johnny played off so well. Marvelous duo. Winters took improv to the stratosphere. Now you have SNL regulars who can't get through a skit without their cue cards.
God I miss Jonathan so much. My husband saved this on the dvr for me. Loved him since I was a little kid, he'd make my dad laugh so hard he'd almost wet his pants. Dad's been gone since 78 but now my 29 year old son watches this and sounds just like my dad. Lost my dear Neil 5 months ago. Thanks for the fun baby.
Rick my dad was a Marine for 3 months, failing eye sight. We went to the theater, with the red plush seats to see Mad Mad World. My dad and I where laughing so hard, the little girls bicycle bit and the gas station where fantastic. Buddy Hackett and Mickey Rooney trying to wake up Jim Backus, with his eye cold, I remember saying out loud "that man is drunk, right dad?" And Paul Ford trying to talk them down in the plane. Seeing Jonathan in that movie also reminds me a lot of my dad, about the same size, color. You know what is also a memory of that movie? My mother sitting there saying "this isn't funny" She didn't get Looney Tunes, Three Stooges, Red Skelton, nothing. Very glad I didn't take after her, at all. Peace to you all
It shows you the brilliance of Jonathan Winters but also of Johnny Carson. Carson would give winters all the rope he needs to tell her stories and make everyone laugh. The so-called TV host these days feel they need to interject every few seconds to make the segment funnier. The opposite happens the majority of the time.
I remember watching Jonathan Winters when I was in school. I used to really laugh until I'd cry. THIS WAS one Comedian who did clean comedy. Sure miss him.
Have been watching a few of these lately.. and THIS visit on Carson made me almost choke, I was laughing so hard... Always such a funny man... and you could always see so much of Jonathan in Robin Williams... Greatly missing them both...
I just discovered this man two days ago due to his friendship with Robin Williams. Boy oh boy was he funny! Such a talented comedian. Now I'm watching videos with him all the time.😆
This is so hilarious! This guy was a comedic genius. You know, sometimes today I just don't find the comedians that funny. I went to a comedy club one time and the headliner came out and the first 6 words out of his mouth were all F-bombs...and people were laughing. I turned to my date and said, "That's not funny."
You are so right on! Any so called comic that must lean on profanity is neither funny nor a comic. The real unfortunate thing is that most (or some) of today's comics are only trying to give the audience what the comic ascertained they want. Not sure if that says more about the comic or the audience. Either way, like you alluded to, it is light years from where comedy used to be.
It’s sad that filthy mouths in comedy are thinking that it’s funny? They haven’t got enough talent to fill a thimble. Jonathon Winters and Don Rickles are two of my all time favs. Just a real talent like Robin. Williams was also. What’s so funny about F-bombs! That just tells me they haven’t got any comic talent at all!
I'm so glad I got to meet Mr winters and shake his hand years ago he truly was so nice, funny and quick witted in person. I got him to autograph my copy of it's a mad mad mad mad world and bought one of his paintings.
A lot of the old guys had intellect that you don't often find in comedians today. Winters. Rickles. Even Bob Hope. You can tell those guys had high IQs and you don't get that vibe much anymore.
He made humour out of misery. Imagine being a kid during the depression in rural Ohio with an alcoholic father to relate to. Sounds like school wasn't too much fun either. Lovely man. I really enjoy his humour which speaks volumes about a long gone USA.
My mom use to tell me that in the 50's and 60's every time he came on the t.v., I'd laugh so hard..I'd wet my pants! He still is my very favorite comedian! I love this guy.....thanks for the laughs Big Guy!
Despite having bi-polar which i also have and struggle with. This man was an absolute legend in comedy. I don't think anyone besides Robin Williams came close to his quick wit. And how he was able to change into different characters on the fly. We truly lost two AWESOME icons in that industry and i don't think they'll ever be another like them there that special folks.
Winters and Williams come from the same mold, comic geniuses, difficult childhood. They use humor as a coping mechanism to deal with their problems. Both had mental issues. The public and myself loved the both of them but I think they suffered internally. Rickles was completely different comedic like, he pushed the social norms to the next level . He wouldn’t have a career if he started today. God bless Johnny Carson
my god, comic genius, I can barely handle myself from laughing by the time he gets to petting the dog backwards - by the time he gets to "he was celebrating something...his old picture of Hoover fell off the mantle..." it's almost a witty acid trip from that point on - and audience members clapping to mash potatoes!!
My dad used to love this guy when I was a kid in the early 70's. Jonathan was one of a kind. You can see where Robin Williams got his style of delivery from. Just like Alan Alda's 'Hawkeye Pierce' character on M*A*S*H is so Groucho Marx in its delivery style.
I think the best part about all Jonathan Winters clips with Johnny Carson that they have this immense amount of humility as a performer. For instance you never see him getting even a hint of frustration when Johnny interrupts for a commercial. Its a mix of recognizing Johnny's position as the King of Late night on TV and super confidence in his own ability to carry on from where he left off
From The Date Jonathan Winters was Born, Heaven & Earth has been Blessed with a Eternal Comforting Jolly Good Remedy for All Creational & Pure Hearted Places in and by Time. 🤣😂😃🎩👌
I suffer with PTSD and depression. When an episode strikes, I turn on this video, laugh and feel better. God bless you Jonathan Winters.
I can relate
And God bless you

I do the same thing. Johnny Carson and Don Rickles is my go to.
Yes indeed , laughter makes the pain a little less painful ! ! God bless all comedians !!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😝😝😝😛😛😂😂😂😄😁😁😁😁😁😁🤣😂😂😂😂🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍
I think Jonathan Winters is one of the most liked comedians stay great!!! Thanks for the memories!!!
Jonathan Winters was a first-rate talk show all by himself. Never a dull moment.
JONATHAN WAS TOTALLY AWESOME ...THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER PERSON LIKE HIM .....
I love,to watch Jonathan Winters, there aren't any Comedians like him nowadays. He ways had a clean skit. Loved the way that he was so quick with the ad LIBS. Miss you Mr Winters you always made me laugh.
These guys just had so much fun, we were so lucky we got to see these people. Thanks for uploading the show.
I could watch him talk about his past, or really just anything on his mind for hours on end. He was/is the greatest comic of all time.
Even though I didn’t- regularly - watch “The Tonight Show” - I have NEVER EVER seen Johnny Carson laugh as hard as he does - EACH & EVERY time - when Jonathan Winters was a guest !
Watch Johnny and Doc compare Thanksgivings - Doc was high and Johnny was beside himself
Not saying he laughed hard each and every time these guests came on, but I never seen him laugh as hard with these guys on: Don Rickles, Robin Williams, Winters himself, Rodney Dangerfield, George Carlin, Tim Conway, those are some of the examples.
You could look in 10 universes and find nobody even close to that man for funniness. Simply stunning. Absolute perfection.
Well put
You got it right on man love jon winters
He was a genius. Universities are very good at issuing instructions on how to obey masters.
He was probably the most entertaining comedian of his time , spontaneous patter priceless
If only he knew now what laughter his life still brings to people. I surely needed this today. Thank you Mr Winters.

The ONE and only! What a genius. Thank you for the video. Takes me back to a different and truly funny world.
Worshipped this guy my whole life. Real sorry when he died. rIP
His facial expressions are COMEDY GOLD....going along with his hilarious stories...
and the older he got the more funny his faces
Ya, those eyes of his were really what put his comedy over the top. He's such a legend.
Winters was an absolute genius, top of his field, I could watch his videos for days on end
Jonathan Winters was the rare comic that could tell long stories or short one-liners. He is great with the old Depression stories in Ohio, especially. Robin Williams said he learned his trade mostly from Jonathan Winters. A timeless talent.
I have a serious heart palpitations and c.o.p.d condition ,and Johnathan helps me out with his sense of humor
That's a good thing for me ☺️
Probably one of my most favorite Jonathan Winter shows, seen so many times and it still keeps me laughing. no one better.
Loved both these men... Legends both of them.
One of the best that ever did comedy.
Yes indeed.
McMahon had an infectious laugh which Johnny played off so well. Marvelous duo. Winters took improv to the stratosphere. Now you have SNL regulars who can't get through a skit without their cue cards.
I love the way Johnny listens and thoroughly entertained by Winters
One of the best improv comedians ever, r.i.p.
As long as I've watch him I got the impression he had long been tired of his wife's B S. He had that way to clue you in
@george ion Good question! Watch all you can find and you will see. I think Jonathan Winters was the Best. I loved his view points

+nemafann Jonathan and my dad were the same age. Both were in the Marines. I still remember Jonathan from that iconic film, It's a Mad, Mad Mad World.
The funniest scene was when he destroyed the gas station.
Exactly. That movie was a comeback for Winters.
Rick my dad was a Marine for 3 months, failing eye sight. We went to the theater, with the red plush seats to see Mad Mad World. I nearly pissed myself! Oh the weirdly wonderful mind of the great Jonathan Winters! They broke the mold!

Jonathan Winters was the very best. He makes me laugh so much. Out loud.
This is how funny comedians should be! Talk about quick wit! One of the funniest ever!

You are so right. Today 's comedians have intellect, they know all the four letter word's. Thanks
Its a UTUBE THING. UTUBE big MONEY. Whites turning tricks. SOO SAD
This man only had friends on earth and now is surrounded by angels.
I imagine him hanging out with Harry Dean Stanton.
I think they’ll be my angels when, and then …
He was a great actor and comedian. So funny. No bad language either. Lov him!
During the pandemic I watch this video every day to keep myself laughing.😂❤️
So funny, no politics and real talent.
i have tears in my eyes
God he’s so funny. Made me happy when I was feeling down.
My favorite comedian no one can even come close to his talent rip mr winters you are sorely missed❤❤❤❤
He made humour out of misery. Imagine being a kid during the depression in rural Ohio with an alcoholic father to relate to. Sounds like school wasn't too much fun either. Lovely man. I really enjoy his humour which speaks volumes about a long gone USA.
Wonder if some of the scenarios are made up though. Still think he is so funny.

I so enjoy, please conversations that the two Johnny's do,

It’s a shame all these shows cut short these late greats.
I loved hearing Jonathan and hearing him crack up Johnny and Ed.
I loved Jonathan Winters. The entertainer of entertainers.
Never B another Like him ...He was GREAT in his time ...Best EVER
One of the half dozen or so true comic geniuses.Because of the expanse of comic talent is literally incomparable.
Thanks for putting this vid up. This is HILARIOUS! Johnny is in tears.

A unique and timeless comedy genius. Johnny was the best person to interview him.
Great segment .... Johnny looks like he's about to cry .... classic !!

The best one back then. You can see why he was Robin Williams favorite 😍
I have been watching a bunch of his interviews with Carson and this may honestly be his best one.
I’ve never seen Carson laugh so much!
