  • Winter is the time to fish for white steenbras, I really want to catch a huge white steenbras so with the first proper white steenbras conditions we went looking for them! We ended up to hook 17 monster fish on white sand crabs and all of them were lost, watch as the mystery unfolds! This was one bizarre fishing day and I have never in my life experienced a fishing day like this before!

    We were also fishing a few months ago for Steenies with sand crabs and we caught quite a few good 10kg plus Steenies. In between we also had hookups of massive fish just taking line and would not stop till they broke us of. They usually run sideways about a hundred meters in a few seconds and then pop. We also suspected Bronzies especially considering the area we were in as we caught a lot of other sharks in between which we could land but sometimes they were just absolutely massive and did not give any line and would just run till they bit us off. For us this was the ordinary for a whole month of fishing the same spot with the same bait. Hearing you say it's unusual surprised me as it was the normal for us. We found that they would not miss the opportunity to eat a small crab if they had the chance. Hope this helps Xander if you want to know any more just ask. Love your videos man!

      I checked the gut contents of fish I've caught for the last 40 years. Ocean fish often have crab remains inside. Sometimes a lot of very tiny crabs.

    Buddy could it not be that these sharks know that it is possibly spawning season for the crabs and so more nutrition is on offer than other times of the year and that is causing them to chow down on the crabs and in such numbers? I think it's possible.

    • @redtobertshateshandles
      @redtobertshateshandles Год назад

      Yes. Fish and sharks will be where the food is. I never see a shark but when the dead whale washed up there were plenty. If you were a lion , the humans to eat would be scarce around the bush and suburbs , but abundant at the shopping centre. Where the food is.

    There is nothing like a steam train of Steenie to get the heart going. I am sure big sharks are something amazing to catch, for me a big edible is just the best thing.

  • @bradparker6156
    @bradparker6156 Год назад +1

    I'd like to think those were indeed mega steamers you had there. I've caught a handful of steenbras in my time, but am no expert at all. I just remember the text from fishing guides I read in my youth that went something like : "the steebras picks up the bait and goes off at great speed, only to drop the hook such that the bait on retrieval appears to have been untouched.." Some False Bay anglers even swore that the fish were picking up the sinker instead of the bait. Bloodworm used to be the favorite bait in the area, and the guys would come up with weird and wonderful ways to present this bait with one two additional "trap hooks" to try to counter the guile of this sought after quarry..

    Awesome awesom video. Great footage. Was from your first cast and first run new immediately it is a Bronzie take that. I have fished with crab for steenies before around same time as this and have got picked up by Bronzies on crab. Could not manage to land one ue to light tackle but had 2 on the lip and could see clear as day that they were both Bronzies. Had me confused and spoke to couple old ballies in the fishing community and they say they used to get them on crab, lobster tails. Also seen a documentary regarding Bronzies and they actually love crab and lobster. So I recon it is perhaps a big part of their diet. Once again awesom content. Keep it up.

    Crazy runs! Possibly bronzies, did you see what it was when the fish came close? I can't see how bronzies can spit the hook like that though. Normally sharks the hook sits because of their tough skin that you need a pliers to take the hook out... Happened to me once with bloodworm on the beach. Rod in the stand and drag not too loose as it was a J hook, rod jumps out of the stand with rod and multiplier dragging face down through the sand towards the water caught me rod and fish off. Hook came out clean 🤷‍♂️

    Once we were down at the beach and the previous day a friend of mine and his friends caught over 100kg of steenies and white musselcracker on a bank in a single day. Bronzies were gale aswell and they had multiple swim offs.
    Next morning I went down with them, only throw for a bronzie and I got a 70kg fish. Then was pushing tide game time for steenies. I got the only fish which was a cracker on sand prawn BUT I got bitten off on a sand crab.
    Putting 2 and 2 together now... Must have been a bronzie!! (Was earlier this year, about Feb-March)

    Reel 1 met "circle" hoeke is moet nie kap nie. Julle laat my dink aan die ou dae langs vaaldam waar die manne 100m terughardloop as hulle vasmaak.

      Niemand in die video het mos gekap met n circle hoek nie, die keer wat ek geslaan het het en n 11/0 J hoek aangehad. Ek hengel al 15 jaar met circle hoeke ek weet wat om met hulle te maak
