I love Discworld! I think the audiobooks are the way to go, the actors are fantastic!
I highly recommend not starting with Color of Magic. Allen from Library of Allenxandria recommends starting with Guards! Guards! and that's where I started and I think he was exactly right that it's the best entry point because it will introduce you to the world and different facets of it the best. Pratchett hadn't quite found his perfect authorial style in the first few and may not best represent him for new readers.
👍 I tried starting Color of magic but could not get past the beginning. But Guard, Guards was great!!
@@Silverraine1Is that the one with the suitcase on the cover?
@@amateurcrastinator9523 I had a different cover edition but yes!
@@Silverraine1I couldn't get very far either. I've heard, don't start with that. Others are way better.
That edition of flatshare is my absolute fave!! I love your book hauls. I fell in love with ninth rain and fireborne and would never have found them without your recs!
I'm about to start reading Discworld 1- Colour of Magic for a book club this week and I still need to get to and read Cage of Dreams as I loved City of Nightmares back when I read it. Great haul!. 💕
The alternate sleeves for Once Upon a Broken Heart are goregous!! And I loved The Starlet Alchemist last year, so I hope you enjoy it too!
I actually gasped out loud when you showed the FL edition of The Scarlet Alchemist. So unbelievably beautiful 😍
Isn’t it beautiful??? Now here’s to hoping I really enjoy the book :D
I bought it secondhand because it was so pretty
@@iheartwalle lucky you :)
I may need to get those sleeves for the Once Upon A Broken Heart series. That was one of my surprise favorites this year.
Nightwatch won’t have the same impact unless you’ve read the other Watch books first (at absolute minimum). You really have to know the characters and their history for a lot of it to really mean something.
Don't worry about starting Discworld with The Color of Magic, I did and love Discworld :) 9/10 I think chronological is best
I picked up City of Nightmares on your suggestion and loved it! I also didn't realize the sequel came out so soon.
Omg I love the alternate covers for the once upon a broken heart series!!!
I wanted to see the fourth wing sleevessssssss
Start your Discworld Journey either with Colour of Magic or Guards! Guards! as those are also the first books in their subseries (CoM is the first book period). I recommend starting with CoM and then going through the series in publishing order, but even Terry Pratchett said it does not really matter. Nightwatch is book fiveish in the Watch series, so i would not start with that. I really envy you that you can discover this great books now as a new reader. Have fun 🎉
Thank you so much! I’m very excited to finally get into it 😄
wishing you a joyous and very happy new year with lots of favorite reads!
i listened to my first discworld book a couple of months ago and it was “equal rites”, the first in the witches series. loved it! it’s hilarious. since then i’ve been buying quite a few of the hardcovers whenever there were sales and now i’m unsure whether to first stick with the witches series and continue with “wyrd sisters”, or go to book one and read in publication order. 🤷♀️we’ll see..
i’m still waiting for a sale for “untethered sky” 😂
the sleeves are very beautiful- now i’m curious about the fourth wing sleeve.
have a lovely day + happy reading! 💜
Supporting local book store and buying second hand. ❤❤❤❤
Happy new year Elliot and your family! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉📙📖📖📚📚📚📙📙📖📖📙📙📚📚📙📙📙📖📖📙📚📚📙📙📖📙📙📙
I love Bookmans! I used to go there all the time when I lived in Flagstaff.
Bookman's was SUCH a treat when I visited Pheonix last week!! thanks for the rec :) also finished The NInth Rain on your rec and it was SO SO good!
Oh, yay to both things! :D Which Bookmans did you go to? I’m guessing the Phoenix one, since you mentioned Phoenix 😄 And yay for Ninth Rain-I hope you enjoy the rest of the series :)
Yea, pretty sure it was the PHX one ... I must have missed you mentioning that it has more than books cause I was overwhelmed with the amount of used video games/board games tuff too. @@ebnovels
City of Nightmares was amazing! Loved it. The sequel is also really good. Also Defiant was a phenomenal conclusion. 😍👌
What a beautiful haul, I added a couple to my wishlist as well :). I am curious about the Alix Harrow book, I am pretty sure I picked up A spindle splintered bevsuse of your recommendation. I did not care for that one, but curious what the author can do in a longer book.
The book about what's happening in the Congo might break me, but I'm adding it to my TBR. Ever since I saw that tragic Law &Order SVU episode about the refugee woman from the Congo.
I’ve actually read it since filming this, and it’s devastating. Definitely a really important read though 💗💗💗
Ooooh I would love to buy any SEs of Fourth Wing you have! Will keep my eyes peeled 👀
Omg I am so happy. I can't wait what you have to say about the Discworld 😊😊😊 hope you will have fun! 😊😊😊
I love the Discworld books. I will say though that while you can totally read Night Watch as a standalone novel (they are all tbh), your experience with it would be greatly improved if you have read the other 5 City watch books before hand. Just for the added context of who everyone is and what the events are. Some of the jokes wont land either otherwise.
I wasn't a big fan of Legends & Lattes but really enjoyed Bookshops & Bonedust.
Ohh, that makes me excited!
Same here
I love ALL the special editions! ❤
Oooh that edition of Fragile Threads is gorgeous! I have ine that had the white covers similar to the OG white ones, but i don't remember where o got it from 😅
Only about 20% into Starling House so far but it isn't hitting me like The Once and Future Witches by the that author did...I will have to give it more time though. I am also hoping to get to Discworld this year.
I never heard of The Scarlet Alchemist, but that book is gorgeous 😍 Really though how do you get publishers to send you things at random lol
I am currently reading Defiant, and I also hope it returns to what I loved about Skyward. I didn’t love the middle books as much.
Great Haul!
Curious if you have tried *Bone Witch* by Rin Chupeco. BTW, *City of Nightmares* is on my reading list so... *fingers crossed* thanks for the recommendation.
Happy New Year lovely
Happy new year!
Where do you get your UK covers/editions? I’m excited to read Fragile Threads of Power but I cannot abide the US cover xD
❤📚❤️ Happy New Year
Same to you!
@@ebnovels Thank you 😊
There is nothing better than a big, floppy paperback.
What small business makes those sleeves for OUABH? I didn’t catch in the video what the name of the company was.
I didn’t catch where you got the alternative sleeves / beautiful editions? The small business what is it called
Same!
She quickly mentioned it was called Lilac Library! Very pretty dust jackets
i love bookmans
It’s the best :D Is there a certain location you like most? I’ve been to the Phoenix, Mesa, and Flagstaff ones :)
@@ebnovels I probably go to mesa the most since I live closer to that one! but I have been to the phoenix one as well. Ive only lived here since the start of 2022 and i still havent been to flagstaff 🙈
2:27 you could say, one shouldn't judge the book by it's cover??
Who recommended that you start the Disc World series with those books? 🤔
They were just on various recommended reading lists :)
As someone who hasn't read a V. E. Schwab book yet, where should I start?
Depends on what you're looking for!
If you want a well-done new adult fantasy, the Shades of Magic trilogy is a good place to start (first book: A Darker Shade of Magic). It's my personal favorite Schwab series, and I adore the worlds and characters, but if you're mainly into lengthy dark epic fantasies or have a hard time with flawed female characters, this might not be for you. Worth noting that The Fragile Threads of Power is the first of a companion/sequel series to Shades of Magic, so I wouldn't recommend starting with that one.
If you want something more morally grey and X-Men-ish, Vicious is very solid, and a lot of people on booktube tend to like it best out of her works. It has a sequel and will eventually have a third book, but it can be read as a stand alone if preferred.
If you're feeling like a high quality YA monster hunter thriller, the Monsters of Verity duology is great and underrated. First book: This Savage Song.
If you want a cute but still spooky middle grade with a lot of heart, the Cassidy Blake series is really fun. First book: City of Ghosts.
I haven't read Gallant or The Archived or The Near Witch yet, so I don't really know about those.
@@eilindene wow thank you so much for the breakdown! This really helps! Thank you again ☺️
@@biagianguyen no prob! 💕
when are we gonna get her to read One Piece?
Hey Ell.. please don't take this offensively but I'm asking because I'm wondering if it's something with the lighting. Are those white/grey hairs mixed into your bangs? Sometimes it looks completely dark and I'm confused 😅 I really hope this doesn't make you uncomfortable/ appears rude.
DO NOT start with guards guards. Its awful. Start with literally anything else. Seriously, I don't know why people (for me it was straight dudes in college) always reccomend that one first, but its a terrible entry point. Like I kept trying to read it and hated it and thought I just hated Terry Pratchett, but no. It's just that book.
Cage of dreams sounds magical and I heard a lot good things about it I am going to read it 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎊🎊🎉🎉🎊🎊🎊🎊🎉🎉🎊🎊🎉🎉🎊🎊🎊🎊🎉🎉🎉🎊🎊🎊🎉🎉🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎉🎉🎉🎊🎉📖📖📚📖📙📙📖📖📚📖📙📖📖📚📚📚📖📙📙📙📖📚📚📚📖📙📙📙📖📚📚📚📚📖📙📙📙📙
