If you haven't seen my review of the FP2 on the main channel, watch it here: ruclips.net/video/yarollsdao4/видео.html ...because you seriously don't want to miss how crazy this device is!
He might have been talking about the Aqara app or there was older firmware that didn't allow it. But yes you need internet to just get it up and running to create the zones but after that it doesn't need it.
I did the same thing. It was driving me nuts until I figured it out. But just FYI if you’re adding the sensor with an iPhone in the Aqara app you have to add it to your “Home” on iPhone. You can’t complete setup unless you do, but then you can go back and delete it out of iOS Home and Home Assistant with auto-discover it.
yes, same regret! only bought 1! it is back on Amazon UK now but shipping from China and paying full price. Wish they will do another discount code in May!
I don't have any Apple devices, so no access to Homekit. Is there anyway to add the FP2 to HA if all I have is Android and Windows devices? Thanks for the help and great videos!
Scary thumbnail to see after buying one of these for each of my 5 rooms! It took me a bit to get it all set up in HA, but now they’re working great. Making zones in the aqara app was kind of a pain, it was detecting but not showing me on the map.
Hey Reed, great follow up! Like anything, working longer with the device will reveal flaws & gains. I’m hoping that the matter update arrives, as I only use SmartThings & Amazon in my routines. If you ever have the chance, I’d like to see the setup with the Everything sensor 1 and SmartThings, what it can do & how it compares! Thx!
Is it possible to program it to turn on hue lights at a specific color temperature if I walk into the room at a specific time? For example, when I walk into the kitchen after 6pm, turn on warm lights. But when I walk into the kitchen at 7am, turn on cooler, brighter light?
I find it interesting that it worked without internet for you. Everything Smarthome also tried this and it didn't work. Maybe this was because he wasn't using homekit in HomeAssisstant and maybe homekit directly?
2:00 The "Sensor runns completely local" I assume zone can be defined through HomeKit? Or do I have to set up the zones in the Aqara App first and then add it to local Homekit?
I'm finding that the sensor regularly thinks there's more people in the room than there are and also that there's someone in the room when it's empty. Are you having this issue?
Thanks for updating - I did see that you updated the notes on the original post. Ordered two of these guys - cannot wait to start seeing what I can do with them. Also - if you know - can this detect through glass? I want to place on kitchen counter, which would go through dining area and then I have 3 windows looking out on patio that I would love to create a zone for that
@@tprav Amazon - I was lucky enough that after seeing the first video i clicked on the link. I now regret not ordering more. Aqara should have more out shortly
When I watched your first video, I went straight to Amazon and it was unavailable. But last night I was able to order just 1 and would get it May 2nd. This sensor is going to be a game changer for me. Now I don't have to say hey Google to turn on/off lights.
@Joaquin Pereira I had it turned off for a few weeks. But now they have a firmware update, the aqara app as well. Now it is a lot better. Didn't work very well with Google Home, but it's better with Alexa. So far it's good. Still getting ghost figures on the app.
They haven't even been rolled out in my loation yet... suppose I postpone getting interested in them until they get integrated with my particular system AND they are reliably in stock, so, see you in about a year ;-)
Do they work well outdoors (undercover)? And can they detect pets? If so, can they differentiate animals from humans? Does it penetrate glass? Can I detect a person either side of a glass door or outside a window?
I got the sensor in... want to set it up to trigger automations in my home assistant with the fall detection... How do we do this? I set it up in my workshop and want to use it to detect if I get knocked out while working with my tablesaw and other tools and trigger a few automations to get me help as a just in case issue.
Does anyone have issues after updating the FW.. to where the Edge setup fails or doesnt see you moving around? Or even if i bypass that.. the app doesnt even show me moving around... just thought id check to see if others are having that issue. Thanks for the update video Reed.. .great as always.
I have the same problem in not being able to get through Edge setup with the updated firmware 1.1.6_0005.0025. It also doesn't see me moving around at all, but it did before the update
Love the review. I have one question as a pet owner... Can the Aqara detect the difference between pets and humans? Because knowing my pets the will annoy me as soon as they understand that they can trigger my Automations.
I'm not sure what all the correct terminology is but in Home Assistant it shows the presence sensor/zone as occupied or not. There is a sensor for each zone and one for the entire room.
Any issues with mirrors? I’ve placed mine in the bathroom and in zone management, it seems to think there’s several people there when it’s only me. Ghosts? 😅
Would love to see some automations (yaml). I have some comming, but would like to see how others are tuned and setup. On one of the sensorsEven the Everything Home ones I have I have had to readjust them because it seems the air conditioner turning on these hot Arizona days seems to affect it. Do these devices detect hot and cold air layers?
Some features you mentioned in you first video may require the Aqara subscription. This is mentioned on Aqara's FP2's webpage under the 'It is Ultimately Future-Proof' heading (OTA) in fine print... "Please note: some newly added features may require the Aqara subscription".
Hey looking at getting this sensor for my google home setup. Am I able to setup routines now on teh home app? Or am I able to use home assistant integration for automation on google home?
With the dead zone can you make a zone right before the dead zone where it can see and have it not trigger an automation at that point? Then when you walk back in and move to the zone proper and walk out the automation would continue
Yes. There was some confusion online because older firmware didn't allow this. Now it's possible and I tried it out without internet access to the sensor and it worked just fine.
Just seen this video as I’m still thinking about buying the FP2, for your dead zone just place the sensor the opposite side of the room and it’s solved .
I see all these videos saying how great the everything presence one is, I got two of them and I’m not seeing these results, I get false triggers all the time, and even when I’m in the room, it loses my “presence” quite a bit, maybe I need a video to follow, I’ve tried every setting I could for up with. Running Home Assistant, supervised, and ESPhome, any good video suggestions anyone?
I get quite a few ghost presenses from time to time on my fp2, although i have all edges and automatically detected interference zones setup, plus I've adjusted all the sensitivities to death - still occurs. Another thing is the left and right monitoring setting confuses me - what exact difference is it supposed to make? Does it just reel in the front detection zone range? Does it increase sensitivity or range left and right?? Seems to make no difference to the map.. Sometimes, it seems to go to sleep and not pick you up for ages, compared to its standard trigger time Thanks for the very informative videos and follow up! You're a star!!!
I've seen a problem with occupancy, if I have 2+ people in the room and one of them leaves the sensor indicates that the room is empty, I don't know if you can see the same issue?
thanks for the great video. But may I ask can you add the fp2 sensor back to HomeKit after adding to home assistant? because I got error when I try to add it back to HomeKit after adding to ha
how is yours working in such a large space?? I just gone one and the range for me just sucks seems to work only up to like 6ft. I set it to far in the setting and everything. tried different locations too.
With the Homekit controller integration in Home Assistant does it work offline without internet? Lewis of Everything Smart Home added to Home Assistant in another way that did not work offline
So i was able to pick up four of these, but each sensor has a different issue. I tried putting one in my main living right under the tv, but it doesnt seem to pick up a moving dot (the other rooms have different issues). Any idea why its not detecting me? the device firmware is updated and I tried resetting the device a couple times
Can you make a video showing how the recessed lights are wired to be smart. Are they special recessed lights or can any lighting become smart like this? Like how do you get to your stage to use these products in your setup? Its always so vague getting to your point in your home setup, you highlight a product or products but never how they integrate.
You can either get a smart light or you can get a smart switch. I recommend a smart switch like TP Link Kasa or Gosund. Then you connect the switch to home assistant after setting it up. Keep in mind that your setup also depends on your electrical wiring. Most of these smart switches needs a neutral wire. Hope it helps!
I enjoy all your videos and this new sensor sounds great. I wonder if there’s a way to make it work in a room if sometimes you want the lights to stay off (movie nights). I’m thinking if I turn off the lights, the sensor will keep turning them back on because it’s knows we’re in the room.
That's the biggest issue of smart homes at the moment. You can make the most complicated automation and find out later that it doesn't do what you wanted anyway, because people are not robots on rails doing the same thing every day at the same time with the same needs. For what you are saying it might be possible to see if TV is playing media at certain time and set automation based on that.
The only way to achieve this as far as i can see is to set up a routine to do this based upon whether your tv is on or off. You would need a smart plug connected to your TV power supply to monitor this. Or alternatively, if you want to prevent detection while only watching movies, set up a smart button along side of your seat that you press when watching a movie which will disable the motion sensor until you reactivate it, again using the button.
Hey Reed, is the recommendation to mount this at the level were you placed yours? I only wondered if placing it above your cupboards sort of facing downwards would make things easier. Most upper cabinets have some power source for you to connect to, and would eliminate any desktop issues. Your thoughts?
Yes that would probably be better. I only have it here because I'm moving it around testing it. Aqara recommends it being 2 meters high (around 6 feet) so mine probably isn't ideal but it works fine.
smh, something told me to watch this video first, vs a more recent video..and thats my fault you wouldve saved me looking at 10+ videos on why my device wasnt being seen by home assistant. Decides to watch video after figuring it out lmao my luck.
Hi! Does anyone know if it displays a number state of occupants for the zones in HA? Like occupants in sofa and the state being "2" so one could make automations based on number of occupants and not only occupied or not occupied?
No silly outro? 😥 I am using a less sophisticated Tuya mmwave that will briefly pick up my ceiling fan turning on (it's fine for turning off) and will also detect me through a door. From the sounds of it, the FP2 is far superior and the way to go. Question: is the FP2 configurable through Z2M, or is this really only done through the Aqara app (after it has first been integrated into HA). Thanks.
Silly outros are on the main channel. I keep these videos pretty bare bones. Right now the FP2 needs to be set up in the Aqara app for all the zones, sensitivity...etc. Technically you could add it straight to HA using the HomeKit Controller integration without ever downloading the Aqara app but you would be missing out on what makes the FP2 special. Then after you set up the FP2 in the Aqara app you really don't need the Aqara app anymore unless you were going to make some tweaks to the zones.
I just got one on a prime day deal thinking it wouldn't pick up my cats...if they're on the floor it doesn't but the second they jump on the sofa it sees them as people. It's so annoying because the sofa was a huge part of my routine planning.
Only problem with the Everything Smart Sensor is they are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive for what it is and as you mentioned, never in stock. The price went from roughly $40 to $60+ IIRC. Stupidly priced for the product.
The market would seem to disagree with you. I have a drawer full of motion sensors that are broken/didn’t work/ate batteries for breakfast. If I had had 1 EP1 for every time I’ve swapped out a crappy motion sensor, the EP1 would have been a lot cheaper.
I think you are also still wrong regarding the local communication. The other similar-to-your-content guy with the beard that revoked internet access to the sensor said that it was becoming unavailable in HA. Can't remember his name...
His channel is called @EverythingSmartHome, and this is where he talks about this in his FP2 review video: ruclips.net/video/qmtSRUH6yXs/видео.html FYI @reedssmarthome
@@marazmarci turns out that you can restrict internet access to the FP2 after all. But you must do it in a way where you have to find the server that it is trying to resolve and speak to and create an internal record in your own network (or something along these lines) in order to create a blackhole. I don't remember the technical details exactly but the point isn't to just cut the internet from the device. It has a bug that if it's not able to communicate AT ALL it goes into zombie state. Whereas if it "communicates but in error" then it continues working and uses the local network instead.
I could look into it. It's actually really easy to do. Add the Aqara Home skill in the Alexa app. It will discover the zone presence sensors you create in the Aqara app. Then create an Alexa routine with the trigger being a smart home device. Select the zone and choose detected/not detected and you're good to go. It's basically like a motion sensor in the Alexa app.
@@reedssmarthome Maybe it is just me, but I have been fighting getting the Alexa app and the FP2 to play nicely together. Alexa found the zones I made, but then frequently tells me "there is a problem". Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not.
I think there might be a bug with the Aqara app. I picked up a FP2 and was able to set it up with individual zones, however I noticed that the app stopped live tracking my position as I moved around in the room. The sensor still registers properly, it just don't update my position in the map unless I close the app and reopen.

I just got one on a prime day deal thinking it wouldn't pick up my cats...if they're on the floor it doesn't but the second they jump on the sofa it sees them as people. It's so annoying because the sofa was a huge part of my routine planning.
Does somebody knows how to change WiFi network without factory reset the defice?
Only problem with the Everything Smart Sensor is they are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive for what it is and as you mentioned, never in stock. The price went from roughly $40 to $60+ IIRC. Stupidly priced for the product.
Or for those of us that remember Econ 101 it would seem that they still need to raise the price even higher until demand matches supply
Much cheaper to diy it
The market would seem to disagree with you.
I have a drawer full of motion sensors that are broken/didn’t work/ate batteries for breakfast. If I had had 1 EP1 for every time I’ve swapped out a crappy motion sensor, the EP1 would have been a lot cheaper.
Currently $85USD + shipping & tax
I think you are also still wrong regarding the local communication. The other similar-to-your-content guy with the beard that revoked internet access to the sensor said that it was becoming unavailable in HA. Can't remember his name...
His channel is called @EverythingSmartHome, and this is where he talks about this in his FP2 review video:

FYI @reedssmarthome
@@marazmarci turns out that you can restrict internet access to the FP2 after all. But you must do it in a way where you have to find the server that it is trying to resolve and speak to and create an internal record in your own network (or something along these lines) in order to create a blackhole. I don't remember the technical details exactly but the point isn't to just cut the internet from the device. It has a bug that if it's not able to communicate AT ALL it goes into zombie state. Whereas if it "communicates but in error" then it continues working and uses the local network instead.
Maybe I put that thing as high as my ceiling fan, the fan screw it up a lot.
Maybe I should put it lower?
Can you create a future video to show how Alexa routines work with the FP2 sensor?
Mike, where did you buy it. I cannot find them anywhere
