Trail Camera: What Happens to a Dead Fish Along a Riverbank?

- Springtime trail camera set did not disappoint! I left a trail camera overlooking a muddy riverbank from April through the end of June and got everything from baby turtle-eating herons to a families of deer! I also left some dead fish out in an attempt to lure a family of otters in front of the trail cam.
Keeping trying new things!

What I Believe: bit.ly/3m2WLqQ
I didn't expect to watch this whole video but it was so entertaining! Great work!!
Prayers that you and your family are safe during these awful storms.
Love reading all the comments almost as much as your amazing and entertaining video. Thank you for some great narration also.
The otters got into the camera and deleted the footage
Dang it otters 😤
That bird at 13:42 is a juvenile Yellow-crowned Night Heron.
I think next trail cam video you should do a whole bunch of marshmallows big marshmallows small marshmallows just bags and bags of marshmallows!
There are no women worth chasing. Don't be a fool.
Bird looks like a roadrunner. 🤷♀
I thought the same thing but I really don't know.
13:45 I believe this may have been a juvenile yellow-crowned night heron
the bird is a juvenile Green Heron.
@6:34 something big broke water ACROSS the river by the trees. Screen center left
Those herons are VERY destructive. If they can get it in their mouth, it’s gone! They cleaned out my ponds. Fish, minnows, small turtles, frogs, crayfish, etc. They keep coming back until every last critter is gone and even then they keep coming back!
The small wading type bird is what we called in the Midwest as a Shitepoke, a.k.a. little green heron.
The raccoon playing with the sticks was adorable.
Many years ago, I was at a state park in Indiana that had a pond. The pond was home to a flock of geese, and you's think they'd be quiet once it was dark, but NO. They squawked and fought pretty much through the night. The only thing worse is camping next to a waterfall. Did you know they don't shut the waterfall off at night?😁I found it interesting how the turtles crawled on shore and instantly faced the water. Nice escape plan. Good captures, and I liked the way you narrated.
Thank you for the comment.
The bird looks kind of like a grebe. It is hard to hear you with the music in the background. But I love your videos. Blessings.
Were is this river?
An endearing watch all the way to the end! Thank you for sharing! ❤️
So happy for a new video!!! LOVED it, and loved the otters!
Loooove your videos. More please!
The music.. as the doe follows the mother..perfect..so interesting. Great narration.. voice is perfect and you have a funny scene of humor.. Best trail camera channel on the web. Thanks for your efforts ..we all enjoy them.. also the 2 times that huge fish jumped out of the river was amazing
5:40 Chad goose came over hollering at shawty sitting on the rock, her mans got pressed and took off after Chad, girly decided to go chase a dream because she never though her man was so aggressive. Major turnoff for this baby wanting mama. As she's paddling away, her man is desperately trying to convince her she's making a mistake, that he's sorry, and that it's not like him to lash out. He just wanted to protect her, but she felt controlled. His friends console him when he returned as a single goose, "there's plenty of geese in the sky." they honk solemnly.
Your commentary makes this entertaining.
Cheers
Red eared slider turtles
Yep, it's some type of slider. I have a rescued red eared slider. Many people buy them from pet shops not knowing it costs thousands of dollars to keep one healthy and alive. They can get as big as a dinner plate and must live and eat in the water, coming out to bask. They do not make good pets, I wish the pet shops would quit selling them. One red eared slider grown will need at least a 120 gallon tank with very good filtration.
@@intherockies wow i never knew they got so big. we called them dime store turtles.
Pretty cool stuff I love Otters. And fish Jumping 🤣 The Geese as you say were having FEATHER CARE?
Here you go I use to raise Pigeons so I've learned bird stuff the term is "Preening" 😊
They were ninja turtles
I have a trail cam also, but have it set for photos only. Might try video. Thanks for showing!
Aw the fawns 🥹🤍
I want to get a camera for my front porch. I recently found what seems to be a stray cat in my neighborhood and started leaving food out for it. My dog recently passed so it’s nice having this kind of routine again, even if I never see the cat… but I want to confirm that it is, in fact, a kitty that’s eating my offerings and not just a very busy rat or something.
Omg the deer are so pretty and the baby is so cute ❤🎉😊
I think you captured the Loch Ness monster @ 4:40
Stay safe in this weather Ace, God Bless.
Excellent videos. I love them. Keep it up.
Infrared with most of the trail cameras, it can be seen our animal friends.
I’m not a biologist or an expert… but I have been told and it is my understanding that Geese pair for life. When they choose mates they stick together. It’s a rather morbid thing to say but when goose hunting and you down one of two… even if the other flies off… you can expect the other half to fly back around in short order. The fighting might be immature (or widowed) birds vying for a mate.
I actually had that happen.. made me reconsider hunting geese. I think they can /sometimes will find another mate , but not always
@@guaporeturns9472 yeah it’s a great thing when you’re trying to fill your daily bag limit. If you miss on the first go… you get a redo. Lol. They will try to pair up with another if unaccompanied. That’s what the “fighting” was over… haha
@@jastrapper190 One time I had a pair fly over my duck blind , shot one and it dropped , the other flew on alone to the end of the lake and then turned back and flew low over its dead mate honking mournfully and looking down at it. Was kinda sad.
Geese don't mate for life they mate for that season now swans they are totally mates for life
@@jonathanhall1825 That’s funny , every ornithologist and state game biologist says otherwise , what is your degree? What field do you specialize in? I know for a fact the few pairs that I watched on my property that stayed year round remained paired up through several seasons
All birds fight for territory. But only when nesting or protecting their young.
This is pretty neat!
Giving us this content for free seems insane! This should be on The History Channel, Animal Planet, or some other major network, NETFLIX!? 😅 Thank you for your videos, the best animal vlog on RUclips! 👍✌🗽
Great Narration
Sorry if someone already said it, they appear to be blandings turtles. You can tell by the domed shell. I'm not sure where you're located to give an exact answer but I work with herps in wildlife rehab.
Is it possible that all these critters come up to the trail cam because you have touched it with bare hands and they can smell you. Try setting up whilst wearing latex gloves . See what happens.
Omg 2 baby's ❤
Canadians store all their hate and anger in those geese
I think there were 9 otters in that group. A romp of otters!
Awwww...Bambi!!!
6:35 what was that splash in the top left
Genius idea 🔥
What cameras did you use?
I just love your trail cam videos. I could watch all day every day
Awesome video
Love this, thank you Ace for sharing
In case nobody has answered yet, the hard shelled turtles were map turtles, likely Northern map turtles (Graptemys geographica). Cool footage!
Darn racoons
Riverbank CA till I die
Loved the video
I'm not an expert on birds, but the one that you were asking to put in the comments, I was thinking that it sort of resembled a roadrunner. Didn't look at any of the other comments to compare though. Thanks for this trail cam video. It was definitely something different, and I wouldn't mind seeing again. God bless.
Lived in Arizona and also Florida. Definitely not a roadrunner, a comment above this thought little green heron and does look like a heron. Love herons and roadrunners.
Green heron is the correct answer. Roadrunners are a kind of cuckoo, primarily a desert species. You would not be likely to see a roadrunner in a setting like that.
Also the birds initially looks like a bittern. They are in the heron family. They can extend their neck rather long but they don't always.
Love seeing the nursing fawn and the playful raccoon!! Wonderful!!
'I set another camera up at eye level.' the commentator said
Wow, I have heard there are giant otters, but I did not realise they were enormous!
Awesome
The narrating, the music composition, the shots… chefs kiss!! Your content is amazing!!
My you and your family be safe at this time. Thank you for the great video 😮😊
Do the otters ever mess with the geese? The little ones or the eggs? Herons will eat whatever they can swallow. I watched one eat baby ducks once
love the video and your commentary. Sounds like watching a sports event xD
Excellent trail cam footage. Really enjoyed it. Thank you
i love your videos, thank you very much for all your content, the Otters at the end were the best
Are those Mule deer?
Whitetails
Maybe you can leave a turkey for the animals during thanksgiving.
I love your videos and your enthusiasm, thank you. Fun to learn along with you.
Wonder if it was a baby turtle or some kind of mollusk...?
I love watching these videos. Thanks for sharing!
The bird at the 13:40 mark or so I believe is a Green Heron.
Thanks really enjoyed your video ✌️
This was wonderful!!
Thank you!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
That was so awesome, and cute to see all the animals.
I believe the turtles are soft shell turtles
Geese do mate for life, as do Eagles.
About flippin' time!
Ace uploading on Friday Eve??? Day made
Beautiful!👍💕
The Otter Family! 😍
Bro have'nt watched you an a while
What are those smooth turtles called? Soft shells?
Yes indeed!
That bird looked like a young green heron.
Looks like a blue heron to me. Green herons have shorter neck legs body and thicker beaks I think…I could be wrong
The fawns were the cutest. ❤️
I'd guess that to be a beaver at 4:00. It's hard to tell, but that'd be my guess.
Herons eat all kinds of things. Frogs, crayfish, etc.
My guess about the deer is they smell you. Deer have excellent sense of smell. On par with canines. Just your footprints or things you touch… they can smell “you” even long long after you’re gone. I wish for just one day I could “smell” what a dog smells. To have that capacity. It would be amazing… or overwhelming and distracting. Lol
Fantastic video, love getting otters on the trail cameras. That was a really cool bird towards the end. Enjoyed watching Thanks 👍
Love this so much. ❤️ A wonderful break from political news. Makes me homesick for Ohio.
Might be better of anchoring the tri pot and bait so it won't be dragged off. Also if possible a bait anchored at the water line so you can get turtle activity. All in all, the natural activity is wonderful to watch. Nice job and keep trying. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Very interesting.
Awesome otters. Such a neat critter. I know Beaver will often “range” along a stretch of river. During the winter I think they maintain lodges and are mainly existing under the ice in the deeper water they created at that location. Eating their cached branches/food. But during other times of the year they will move through an area and might not be back for a few days. Maybe searching for a mate or scouting new areas to dam/food/safety. But if you wait long enough you’re apt to catch them going in the opposite direction.
I think I see some bands on the night footage of the geese early on in the video.
Only a dedicated hunter would spot something like that! I hope you are doing well over there in central Tennessee.
@@AceTrailCamera hooked on quack!! Hope you’re doing well friend!
Love it 😍
Healthy animals, beautiful spot. Thank you for sharing.
God's creation is so beautiful that I can't imagine how and why people can believe that nothing exploded, and that explosion created everything? A painting need a painter after all.
God bless you brother Ace, and lots of love from Norway.
We were watching a heron last weekend and he dipped in a came up with a snake. The snake kept wrapping around the birds beek and the bird kept dipping him in the water. then the bird walked out of site and we did not see it completely eat it.
Blue herons actually have a varied diet depending on where they live. I thought they would only eat fish as well but they commonly sit out in fields after they are mowed and hunt for bugs and small mammals. On my drive to work each morning I go by farm fields and there was almost always a heron sitting out there.
Box turtle maybe I have played with with a lot as a child
THOSE CARP AREN'T RANDOMLY JUMPING. THEY ARE JUMPING TO EAT BUGS ON THE SURFACE OF THE WATER. WHAT'S EVEN MORE AMAZING IS THE BUGS ARE VERY SMALL AND YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULDN'T BE WORTH BOTHERING WITH. THE HERON WAS PROBABLY EATING A SNAIL.
They also tend to jump to get rid of leaches after winter.
