That “okey-dokey” after the blessing of the sandwich got me 😂😂😂
😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
The exact comment I came looking for 😂
Cracked up a lot during this episode but that was #1
"Rub-a-dub-dub, thanks for the grub"
It's the General prayer for food. It's called the Hamotzi, or the Motzi for short (Ha means The in Hebrew) It's the bread prayer. Blessed are you, Lord our God, ruler of the universe who brings forth bread from the earth. There's a prayer for fruit, meats, dairy etc. But if you're having a whole meal the Motzi is all encompassing bc honestly nobody has time to bless each part of the food because otherwise it will get cold.
The moment that Matty shares he grew up Mormon and that man’s face instantly changed made my heart burst. In one moment you could tell he finally was having a conversation where someone could understand his life and his struggles. Honestly this video was great, but that moment will make this stay in my memory for a long time
I totally agree, that last part when he was talking with the young man that had left his community was very emotional and you could see they understood each other’s struggles. It was really a heartfelt moment and just made this episode so much more meaningful than just a guy eating some food.
@@moeruss2726 yes, same!
I literally came to the comments hoping someone noticed this, it got me all teary eyed.
This is the comment I was looking for. That moment was amazing.
Yes!!!!
I love how Matty truly integrates himself within the various communities he visits! Plus, his candor attitude is something enjoyable to view.
i came here to say I love how he loves everyone but your comment caught everything.. fuck assholes xx
He’s just an open dude. It’s really great.
I noticed that too. A lot of show hosts come off as patronizing, he gets in there and celebrates their culture with them.
I could see Matty doing a "Parts Unknown" type show around the world.
And he's the same way with or without the cameras on him I've met him 3 times and every time he was mad chill and respectful he offered me sausage pizza but it was lent so he said he'd eat one for me lol
This Rabbi is the coolest!
It's so refreshing to see a seemingly hardcore religious person be so open minded. He seems like a genuinely good person.
It’s the Jewish tradition of strictness and tolerance that has made them the most hilarious, clever, and richest members of our planet.
The guy is so modern and understanding it really amazed me.
Yes!!
If he wasn't cool do you think he'd agree to do a show with Matty?
Honestly, seeing Matty have the conversation at the end makes the entire episode that much better. Food bringing people together is the shit!
I like that side of Matty, it opened a lot of lessons and authenticity
Man, the balance of fun, education, emotion and real talk in this series ist almost second to none, I love it!
Rabbi: Lets do the prayer
Matty: *Half the pizza is already in his mouth*
Rabbi did regift his bagels, kind of a dick move.
@@rlancin respect for respect. Dick move for dick move.
14:26 I love how the rabbi speaks about this highly spiritual source of meaning in life and Matty just looks at him and devours a slice of pizza.
This episode hit hard. I grew up seventh day Adventist and I never felt like I belonged. This time Mattie brought tears to my eyes because I absolutely understand where these kids and him are coming from. What a wonderful Rabbi. Awesome episode.
I completely agree, I grew up seventh day adventist as well. I have such a deep love for everyone that can keep the faith but it was never a place that was going to allow to me to grow in the ways I needed to. When religion is tied to your youth in such a strict way, you are either going to grow with it, or you're going to grow without it
@@peterduda1496 that's the absolute truth.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I grew up SDA too, and I can definitely vouch for a similar experience that this kid felt. It wasn't until I went to college and was introduced to more things outside of just the SDA religion that allowed me to grow more as a person. It's so comforting in a way to see that people have had similar experiences and struggles growing up with religion that I had.
Adventists representing here. Lol. Love me some kosher food. I can eat freely. Also in case you need to hear it, just because you all grew away from the church, don’t forget God still loves you and is trying to draw you back to Him.
Bagel dude woke up and chose ✨violence✨ and I felt that
YESS!
I never knew matty was mormon growing up. I was too, I always felt super similar to matty and now I think I know why. Great guy
And in one of the episodes he said his family just stopped going aka a scandal in the church.
Same bruh
How his beard was parting in the wind while cycling. That was very magical.
This guy is the perfect embodiment of all the young rabbis I've ever met throughout my life. What a legend.
Thanks so much!
The part where the rabbi was talking about kosher eating while Matty was slamming that piece of pizza is comedy gold
Rabbi: I think that every individual is a whole world and you have to look at a person for who they are. It’s not my place to make choices for him. It’s his world and his life and he’s gonna make choices for himself.
Little bit of Buddhism in that statement as well.
@@nycalien makes sense since most other religions were adapted from Judaism.
@@rupincr6082 Dude, Buddhism has nothing to do with Judaism or any or any other religion. 99% Buddhists don't even know the core of the Buddhism. Matter of fact Buddhism is older than any other religion. People only see the recent Gautham Buddha as the start of Buddhism. But Gautham Buddha passed 28 other Biddhas before he became the Buddha. The time difference between one Buddha to another is about million years in today's standards. So figure how old Buddhism is.
@@nycalien The guy was referring to the fact that Christianity and Islam come from Judaism
@@joshuagraham967 oh ok. I understood it wrong.
I love how tolerant they were at the end. It must have been hard for the rabbi, but i deeply appreciate him for being so true to himself and vibrating at such a high frequency. Love and let live 😩
Damn just wanna give that kid at the end a hug & some sour cream
Lol
I read this comment and didn’t understand it at first, but now I do lol
The last 5 minutes is one of the best things I have seen from Matty. It explains who he is. For all the crazy, he is very deep. An excellent episode.
Today I got to watch Matty play DDR with a rabbi in front of confused elderly people. Everything for the rest of the week is just a bonus.
Let's bless the food:
Rabi: Baruj atah adonay ....
Guy: Okey dokey
The Rabbi had to laugh lol
too funny
I was dying haha
We need more people like that Rabbi, he's a great person!
I totally agree. We need more people like this in our world .
that what religion should be like.
Re gifters
Thanks so much!
@LuisDiaz-gw1xs Is that a Seinfeld reference? 😂
I’m an Iranian woman and i just wanted to send some love to all the Jewish people out here. Nothing but love and respect to you all. ❤️
Love from Israel
Oh, you're sweet Ada!
Love our Persian brothers and sisters - I hope to be able to visit Iran one day
Matty was pissed after the Rabi re-gifted his bagels, he ate right through that blessing for the pizza hahaha
It was rude. He didn't believe it was kosher
@@buffaloblack3993 It was extremely rude and very hilarious for me
@@LJ_S1K Exactly!
Doudou got the 🆓 🥯
For the record, he wanted the bagels so I gave it to him. It’s that simple.
Wow, this one was so emotional. You could see Matty connecting with these people like with no others in this show. Amazing to witness, thank you Matty!
after watching this the part that got was was when the rabai said: every person is their own universe- this rabai is a man or love and wisdom
It’s even crazier because he’s a Hasidic Jew and they are the most strict of the strict! But the message is the same. This is why you don’t see Jewish people trying to convert others. Judaism is about teaching and understanding and learning.
@@meepo262 totally, hadisic seem to be the extreme end of Judaism but he is super chilled. He's anomaly
@@meepo262 he’s from the Chabad. The Chabad is a movement within Orthodox Judaism whose founding principle is to reach out to the outside world to help improve it (tiqqun olam). Their practice is still extremely strict, but they’re not the yiddish-speaking closed off communities that get the most press (in which the guy at the end seems to have been born). It’s a shame that the tiniest minority of world jewry gets so much attention, as if they represented the entire culture.
It's no surprise the Rabbi looks like a young Martin Buber :D
Im a muslim... But man that rabbi is soo wholesome and such an endearing person i seriously would pay good money to watch him hang out with matty moreee
What do you mean with " i'm a muslim but"? XD
This is the part I hate about religion, why do you have to say "i'm a muslim but" Like you have to not like a person because you're not in the same religion?
@@Trysomieflexntjes because they feel they have to hate jews because of their religion. Ludicrous.
@@konsultarvode6527 Yeah and the Jews love Muslims. Take the comment in the way it was intended. The OP said they see how wholesome the Rabbi is. It was meant to show that despite my beliefs, that Rabbi is a wicked cool dude. Don't read too much into it and just go straight to hate.
@@konsultarvode6527 lol that bs. don’t decide that muslims or any faith needs to hate jews.
Man that ending was quite something. Good for you Matty, the Rabbi and the kid finding his way in life.
That has to be the coolest, most kind rabbi ever. Very lovable fellow.
Thanks so much!
@@montrealrabbi God bless you.
Kosher is so much like "Halal"
Nice to learn so much about Kosher food.
10:31 getting major britta from community vibes from his pronunciation of bagel.
Lmao
Yup. Pisses me off, as a Jew.
Streets ahead bro
It's a British thing, I believe, which to some degree carries over to Canada.
Baggle
So many things to unpack in this episode. From the Rabbi stating that the community can somewhat be "closed minded", which is something that completely shocked me, to the young man who made the decision to leave his child and religion.
This is the best episode yet. Matty and Rabbi Bernath work so well together and are also willing to learn about each other’s cultures and views. I feel like rabbis get a bad rep due to the ultra-conservative, super Orthodox ones that are super judgy of outsiders, but never forget that there are ones that will understand and respect you if you understand and respect them. Also I learned so much from this video that I would not have picked up anywhere else.
Thanks!
14:00 This part had me crying lol they just kept cutting to clips of Matty shoving pizza down his face hole while the Rabbi is making a case for not being a glutton 😂😂😂😂
12:37 The rabbi gifted matty's gift to another person 🤣🤣
He regifted it right in front of him. Gave it to a guy running a pizza stand. Likely because he happened to be there.
What a jew.. oh wait🤣
@@VAskateboarder Not a Jew anymore, but I can confirm that this is correct. Our way is the way of Bernie Sanders shade. We will just quietly drag you, it's a lot of fun :D
Marty’s open, honest conversation with that young man was so touching and sweet to see.
Love Yisroel's face as Matty's ordering bulk pastries.
“every individual is a whole world”
When the rabbi gave away those bagels I lost it!! As a native New Yorker the NY bagel slander was not cool but I love Matty!
This was actually much better than I expected it to be. Best MattyMat yet!
Oh good food can make anyone happy. Anyone! ❤️
I agree we can unite the world with good food. Who wants to fight when when you have pizza and beer , right or BBQ and Pepsi or Steak and Potatoes or Salad and Ice cold water?
True, isn’t it!
"Every individual is a whole world!" - Rabbi Bernath Best way to define the human condition!
The Rabbi is having so much fun, their energy just works lets see a part 2 to this
One of the best episodes. The rabbi is a breath of fresh air for the Jewish community.
Man this is one of the most wholesome episodes ever 😂😂😂
I love this show! Why you got these unlisted??????
Because Vice kicked Matty off but they still tryna make money off him shit is sad
@@Deebohuncho why they kick him off???

What a brilliant and beautiful human the rabbi is! Friggin great show!!!
Matty you’re a gem and the way you’ve opened up so easily on something so personal. More Matty and Matty-like people in this world please 👍
This was actually wholesome af and truly beautiful.
“I don’t think I know 613 things about anything” I felt that deep lmfao
This Rabbi just wants people to be who they want to be and I think that’s awesome
This is the most heartwarming episode yet!
this brought back so many memories of roaming the streets of MTL high as fuck looking for fire food, and you're almost never disappointed. Hands down one of the best cities in north america
Food is the heart of any culture. Never forget!
This show needs to be put out there again. This is beautiful
This entire video will live in my memory rent free
I can respect a believer who sees the redundancy of their ways yet chooses to abide by them
Can you imagine just walking down the street and seeing Matty Matheson and a rabbi on a tandem bike?
This episode captures the essence of why I love food.
It's not just taste, taste, taste. There's so much human and connection in the things we eat.
I wish more people in the world were like Rabbi Bernath and Matty. Just open minded and respectful.
Love this episode, really emotional and educational. That Rabbi needs his own show!
Thanks so much!!
Did not expect such a wholesome ending with that opening
“Every individual is a whole world. “ I’m gunna keep that one
I'm from mtl, Mr. Rabbi Bernath - hats off to you sir!
Thanks
Fun fact: bagels were 'invented' by a polish, jewish citizen.
This whole episode was beautiful.
Man this brought a little tears to my eyes ! What an amazing man this Rabbi is !
Such wisdom, compassion and empathy !!
The world would be an even better place if more people were like him, no matter what religion they're on.
Nothing but respect for people like him !
Thank you for your kind words. G-d bless you!
Man, I am loving this series of Matty. I learn a lot of new things. Please keep it coming.
I grew up in Utah and was forced to practice Mormonism until I graduated high school. I feel this episode on a spiritual level. I never knew Matty grew up Mormon too! :O Also, Rabbi Bernath is such a cool guy. I'm very cautious when I meet religious people but I would love to be his friend. He isn't all judgmental or pushy and doesn't try to guilt you into following his religion. I've only known about Hassidics in books or RUclips videos in NYC where you see them walking around. This has made me excited to try more Jewish food when I go to Montreal next.
Fun fact from Germany: The "unity cookie" at around 6:05 is called an "Amerikaner" (American).
I was thinking they looked familiar :D
I can confirm that in Poland it's also called "Amerykan", so basically it's the same thing :D
Fakt Bruder
and we don't forget, we make that thing with Puddingpulver xD
What a fantastic episode! So deep, moving, thought-provoking, and fun at the same time. LOVED IT.
This was very powerful to watch. It was so much more than a cooking show. Thank you.
“I feel like my soul is a cheeseburger.” 😂
What I love most about this is how two completely different people from two completely different backgrounds can sit together and appreciate one another’s differences without hate, anger, or judgement.
I wish everyone could be like this.
The balls on that man to obliterate the New York bagel. Take no prisoners 😂
The best Rabbi ❤ god bless him and his community and family. Such wonderful people.
Thank you for your kind words.
I enjoyed watching and listening to Rabbi... He said not everything is meant to be consumed that's what God intended. God Bless All of you
“Don’t touch the women.” I laughed out loud in public on that one.
Matty: My soul is a cheese Burger
Rabi: My soul is probably a Carrot...
lol
Gotta say one of my favorites videos so far, and honestly helped with having a better insight and understanding of the not just the religion but the people.
That community is blessed to have him as Rabbi.
The epitome of the classic asshole nice guy. An anti-hero for our generation. Jewish food is some of the most seemingly dull, but also the most shockingly delectable of all the worlds cuisine. A good bagel is one of the great pleasures of living. There is such a a tolerance and presbyopia that he carries with him yet he’s clownish and sloppy by appearance. THANK YOU.
ngl Jewish food looks like shit, and I live in Israel so I can say that without being ignorant and not knowing of Jewish foods.
What does “Jewish food” even mean? A Jew from Syria or Iran definitely doesn’t cook dull or bland looking food.
Jewish food from eastern Europe - other than the pastries - are dull(er) than what’s to be had in the Middle East and North Africa.
The few food types that could be called “Jewish” are those that were made for the Sabbath (because of the prohibition for cooking on the Sabbath). In Poland they made Cholent and in Yemen they made Jachnun. The former is sometimes very good - the latter is always very good.
@@benjaminr6153 only Jachnun I ate was in the army and although it wasn't bad, it's nothing to be excited about
@@ryderwilson7955 no army is known for their fine cuisine (well, maybe the French soldiers eat well)

Wow,
Really enjoy how comfortable this guy makes me feel.
I'd absolutely love spending any time with any Rabbi ,but I think his disposition would make the obvious hards of stepping into uncharted territory much easier.
Wow, the end act of this was amazing and wholesome! Shout out to that rabbi!
The talk at the end was so good. Honestly. Great episode Matty.
The editing on these episodes is classic.
The conversation at the end was the best part by far. As always matty has great content cooking and comedy wise, but this is a rare side we dont get to see that deserves more attention!
This big-ass and intimidating guy is super straightforward and respectful of cultures. Matty is awesome
So glad I can still watch these shows on RUclips...
Rabbi Bernath reminds me of Seth Rogen. Super chill humble guy
Matty growing up Mormon explains so much.
Never thought i'd get emotional watching Matty
Yisroel has such a good vibe to him, the chemistry was evident lol!
The amount of meat in those sandwiches!
In the UK that would make 3 more sandwiches!
I know 😭😭
That's a good meat/bread ratio for sure 🤤
That's how you roll with a smoked meat sandwich.
Never thought I'd actually learn something real from Matty, never understood the whole Koshier thing and all that, thank you, I finally kind of understand it lol.
This probably the best episode I’ve seen so far!!
That personal chat, over the meal, at the end was amazing 🖤♥️
We always called those cookies “half moons” or “black & whites”.
I love these old “skinny” videos
Haha legit! He’s working his way up to be on my 600lb life.
Going the end of the video things get so deep. Man this is very insightful.
This was super rad. Matty's wrap at the end said it all.
