I can confirm that the gaming mouse is really good, I bought the same mouse, but with slightly different wording on it, from Home Bargains about a year ago and it's great for gaming and the double click button, the silver button just to the left of the main mouse buttons, is actually quite handy once you get used to it. And after a year's constant usage on my main PC playing DOOM and various other first person shooters it's showing no real signs of wear and tear, and all buttons and the scroll wheel function as they should, definitely a great bargain for the price, which I think was about £5 at the time.
That's a good sign, A lot of those cheap mice from my experience (Like pretty much the entire Genesis brand) feel great, have some cool features but tend to start falling apart after ~1 year.
The double click button could be a problem with the rules of professional gaming competitions or with top leaderboard submissions of some speedrunning games. But I guess anyone getting into those activities would upgrade to something expensive just in case it helps.
@@MrEsphoenix Speedlink Decus, actually. That's a much closer comparison. It's possible that Speedlink based the extra button to the side on the RAT but this clone is almost 1:1 to the Decus.
@@zimbu_ Any programmable mouse can have a button like that, I'm guessing it falls under "no macros" in games where that's relevant. Most games don't poll the mouse frequently enough for multi-click buttons to work well.

Windows 3.1 was the last Windows version to natively support EGA, although you can run Windows 95 (and possibly 98, I can't remember) on EGA using the Windows 3.1 EGA driver.
Guess that's what happens when Poundland starts charging more than a pound. I wish that was the case for stores like Dollar Tree (formerly everything was $1 +tax) and Five Below (formerly everything was $5 +tax or below) here in the US. They just recently started charging more for certain products.
I bought the keyboard from Dealz in Ireland ~2 years ago, since I needed one to setup a RPi. It works fine and I've thrown it around a lot without issues.
Generally trying to fix a computer by hitting it is called 'percussive maintenance '. It is generally frowned upon in the IT community. Especially by users.
Well, Mic technology isn't as sophisticated as people think and decent mics are available for low price. Of course they are not studio quality with dynamics and detail, but for voice recording for non-music RUclips vids they are ok. Also you can enhance the sound with proper settings. And mics presented here are for voice communication in gaming, Skype and stuff.
@@TRACKSTARRR Bad products are bad products. Next time, if you want to spend such money, get something from a brand that is known for making good mics, headsets or whatever you need.
@@TRACKSTARRR Whatever means 'Cristal clear'... If you are so audiophile get yourself a studio mic and some stand/arm instead of a gaming headset. I don't know your expectations towards mic sound in a headset for just voice comm, streaming etc...
I mean, some of the current top selling headphones are those raycon ones that have trash drivers. Most people have never used quality headphones so don't have anything to compare things too.
@@MrEsphoenix I hate the Raymond trend. I mean, I never tried them. But reading about them I know how bad they are. And then there are Creators that say they only accept sponsorships from brands/products they stand behind. Which means they either lie or they never heard good headphones. @@marcel_kleist Or, and here's a revelation . . . . people can prefer different subjective sound profiles to crazy degrees. And even if in the minority, they are no less right about what they like or think are good.
Sorry but the idea of Miles Edgeworth owning crappy headphones amuses me and I don’t know why! Now to the meat and tatties. While I don’t have a good reference for quality headphones, one of the best headphones I had was a £20 turtle beach. Were they outstanding sound quality? Of course not. But for their price I felt they were good and comfortable to wear (the fact the ear cups swivelled helped) and it’s volume switch was very handy. RIP my cheap turtle beach headphones.
6:47 That looks identical to a £20 Microsoft branded headset that was as common as mud about 15 years ago. They were really good quality for the price (at the time).
You're referencing the Lifecahat 3000, something Ashens has specifically mentioned using in the past in fact! And they were in fact very good. My high school as close back as 2013 ordered new pairs. The microphone on the dollar store option ironically sounds better, so technology has come a long way.
@@lolman123401 I actually have one of those headsets and can confirm they're the exact same design, even down to the microphone. I would not be surprised if the company that made the 3.5mm jack ones gets slapped with a lawsuit over this. I saw them in poundland and my first thought was "Hang on, my headset looks exactly like that!". Funky colours though.
@@greyhope-loveridge6126 Why would they be hit with a lawsuit? What's to say Microsoft hasn't been just buying rebranded versions of them to sell all this time? I mean the chances are definitely higher that the factory producing these is selling them under the table or something, but ultimately, we probably won't ever really know.
All our PCs have come with the 3.5 jacks including our 2 newest ones. That gaming mouse looks like the cheap one I ordered from China years ago and it was a surprisingly good mouse, until it fell and hit the floor then it gave up the ghost fast.
I think he means the four-contact (TRRS) jack that combines audio out and mic in, most desktops use two discreet jacks so you can plug headphones and microphones in separately.
@@ToastyMozart There are thingies that can divide the four-pin mini jack to two standard mini jacks for headphones and Mic, so you can plug set like this into standard PC. These earphones with bendable mic are probably for some ultrabooks, tablets and phones that utilise those 4-pin connectors.
Poundland has certainly improved over the years with the technical products. I suppose a large part of that is charging several pounds now, but still very cheap for what you’re getting. Honestly does seem good to just have some of these as backups with how cheap and decent they are.
The spare keyboards are great for consoles and such, I have one near my Switch for Animal Crossing (I hate using the app) just like I did for the Wii. I also kinda prefer a physical keyboard with an OTG cable for tablet and phone when I have the chance, and the ones with weird slope in the back like that one support the phone in landscape just fine while I type. So any weird use like this, it's nice not having to swipe the one from the desktop when I need it. Any physical board is better than the touch or cursor boards.
@@lulusinner Yup. Used it on Pokémon Sword, Saints Row: The Third, and the snapshot editor. Worked on all of them. -I even hear you can use one on Animal Crossing New Horizons, too.- As far as I know, the Switch has to be docked. EDIT: New Horizons was mentioned

@@svenbenglen7599 thanks, you're the first to recognize it! I did sell it on to a collector earlier this year as I could use the money (I'm a university student). Before I sold the KV-4000 I did make sure to take a bunch of good photos since it isn't that well documented, need to get those public online somewhere.
I brought one of the gaming mice today after watching your video : It rattled badly, so I took it apart to find the weight which they had put in there to make it feel more "premium" was just a screwed in (in my case not: Broken ) piece of metal with no function. It did give me the ability to see what sort of switches they used for the clicks and they appeared to be good. Most fun was the mouse wheel, it works great as a spinning top. I broke the casing too much trying to get the 3 screws out two under the rear glide pads and another under the central sticker to the left. I would have taken it back to poundland but I could do with a USB cable as that was perfect to the mouse PCB with all 4 cables exposed, or I could use the PCB as just a colour changing light. Thank you
Wired keyboards generally also have better rollover. Cheap keyboards & especially wireless ones often can't detect a lot of keys at the same time. I've found several where you can't press W, D, Shift and Space at the same time - in other words, running diagonally and jumping is simply not something you can do =)
I'm pretty sure most desktop PCs still have 3.5 inch audio jacks right? most motherboards still have them as standard and most cases have a passthrough to the front? or am I completely out of touch these days
I believe he's talking about the single combined Speaker/Mic jack on desktops vs having two separate jacks. While having a combined jack is common on laptops I don't think I've ever really seen it implemented on a desktop as they always have the separate Speaker and Mic jacks.
@@Jakek200 Unfortunately, a minimalist trend with some case manufacturers has seen them use the combined jack. Typically on cases that emphasise form (often flat, ventless front panels) over function.
That mouse is the exact same as tons of others, it's a design that everyone makes lol. I remember my friend had an anker branded one and I had another weird brand that I can't remember the name of. But they had all the same shape and buttons just the design on the top was different
I’ve actually found that old OEM keyboards are nice and cheap keyboards to get. They usually have function keys(often separate volume and mute buttons) and actually feel pretty decent to use. I use an old HP keyboard from around 2012 on one of my systems and it’s perfectly fine to use. You can find them really cheaply in thrift stores and yard sales.
I’ve found the same, but with OEM mice. I bought a basic Dell mouse at a second-hand shop (that pretty obviously hadn’t been used yet) for C$3 or something and it’s served me faithfully for at least five years now, longer than any other I’ve had.
i hope so much you are doing a Christmas Special this year, it has really become a tradition lol, anyways i just wanted to say: thank you for alle the videos this year and all the time you have put in.
I found a quite reasonable "gaming" mouse in my local discounter about a year ago for 6 euros. well i bought 5 of them so far because I had more expensive mice break after 6 months and now that bloody thing won't break.
Actually most modern PC motherboards allow for that kind of 3.5mm jack in practically any of the holes. The software usually asks you what you've plugged in. Makes me wonder why they have different coloured audio ports but yeah, mic and audio output should still work on any recent desktop I think
I can explain the multi audio ports, most motherboards have built in sound and amp circuits (like the old sound cards) these days, and can drive low impediance speakers just fine. so if you have say 7 small studio montors and know how to wire up the 3.5 jack you can hook them all up for true surround sound. Tl;dr they have a built in amp for multiple speakers for the 7.1 surround setup
@@JamesThorWolf yeah I know why there's multiple outputs, I meant it doesn't seem relevant to still colour code them on machines where the audio driver just asks you what you've plugged in, since you can plug it into any of them
I actually really love that keyboard. I grabbed it just for working from home and it's so comfy and easy to use. Although the functions don't seem to work (Internet Explorer and Email do not come up whatsoever). Tying the colours to Scroll Lock is odd, too.
I've been watching too much Dankpods. When he pulled out the headset and began talking about how they sound, I was expecting the freakish ears on a stand to make an appearance.
I bought that first mouse from amazon in 2015 and used it for 3 years. It still works! It does have different branding, the logo is a scorpion, but it's otherwise identical.
As a left handed person I'd have no trouble using that mouse. I have no clue how people use a mouse with their left hand, makes no sense to me. Probably because I've been using a mouse since before I could write. Edit: 3.5 INCH jack?!? That's a huge connector
Same here, I write with my left hand, and mouse with my right hand, and always have. Mousing requires less precise movement than writing, and mouse-on-the-right is the default in many public computing environments, so I would imagine this scenario is quite common.
Ashens is a masterclass on how to sweat properly, and tactfully. He doesn't swear too often but when he does it is very much to the point, and often quite hilarious.
This isn't the late 2000s, wireless mice have internal batteries charged through micro USB connections now. I just have my mouse charging cable resting on my desk and after about 4 days I plug it in for a few hours (you can still use it while it's charging) and it's good to go again.
@@jeff-gl1yx okay sure but why not just... Leave it plugged in, and drop the batteries and wireless hardware? Wireless stuff is nice on laptops but my desktop sits in one place for years on end, it doesn't *need* wireless peripherals.
It can't be a coincidence that BigClive is back on the mainland and now we are getting lots of Ashens poundland videos. The competition is real and intense for who loves that shop the most.
I bought the desk-size mouse mat a few weeks ago as a stopgap until I can get a Gamers Nexus one but I might just keep this - feels good! For a fiver it's pretty incredible.
Stereo, but the speakers are far too close together to really create a stereo field, given you're sitting more than a foot away. A problem with most sound bars in general, which are perfectly fine for TV.
I picked up the same mouse without the branding off wish for $3 CAD (1.75 GBP), and it's still going strong 6 years later. Absolutely love it for the price. I also picked up the power geek one from Walmart for a travel mouse, and it is one of the best travel mice I've used.
A USB cable requires quite different internals (to convert the analog signal to a digital one) so I'm guessing the Chinese knockoff maker here just tried to copy the exterior of the Microsoft headset. Probably for the best since a cheap ADC would sound a lot worse than just sending the analog signal to whatever audio input you use that's probably part of a more expensive machine.
love how those headphones look 1 for 1 like microsoft's lx-3000 headset, except with colour. might as well have slapped the microsoft logo on there too
I have that mouse, got it for a few quid. While it doesn't look the best, it actually performs just fine, feels fine, has a long cable. Honest to God, for something for only a few pound, if you're stuck this is a genuinely good option. I'm using it permanently at the moment for a few months and the scroll wheel does get a *tiny* bit squeaky. But again, as a stand in, it's frigging deadly
Action's RE-LOAD mouse pad with an integrated wireless Qi charger (which cost €3.98) instantly supplanted every other mouse pad I've ever owned. Action in general is a wonderful land of incredible gifts.
I remember watching ashens a while back, kinda mad how intro is still the same and the content is almost exactly the same aswell. Hats off for the consistency
With this kind of quality, the weakest link will be whatever noise is in the room, the compression the games do when transmitting audio, etc. We really live in a golden age of super cheap audio

Bluetooth speaker isn't good for gaming cause delays, also not good for switch when docked or Wii with HDMI adapter But to be fair, for gaming PC a soundbar is weird since we all have at least a decent 2.0 or 2.1 speaker system at bare minimum
yep. those cheapo Logitech 2.1 sets are actually not that bad at all. Sure, a nice AVR + decent speakers destroys them in terms of sound quality, but if you set the bass knob correctly, they are MUCH better than most of those 90s/2000s micro hifi systems.
Incorrect: 3.5mm jacks are still widely commonplace, mainly for high end motherboards that support inbuilt 7.1 surround sound chipsets, of which many still require both 3.5mm ports and the use of a single USB connector for power. The only time 3.5mm will no longer exist, is when headset manufacturers no longer create products for it. Though a huge shift has already happened to purely USB powered stereo and 5.1/7.1 headsets
I have noticed that ear buds or IEM's or whatever you want to call them seems to be one electronic item that has generally improved across the board, even for the budget ones. I'm not sure if it's because of the miniaturisation needed to get any sound out of them, compared to the old style ones that sat outside your ear canal, they just inherently sound pretty good by design or the massive uptake in bluetooth in ears has caused a trickle down in quality but it's actually quite hard to find a pair of in ears that sound really bad. By spending a bit more, like 30 - 40 pounds you can get legit audiophile IEM's from brands like KZ and others. IEM's are probably the best bang for buck thing you can get at the moment imo

And they based it on the Madcatz RAT which is a win.
So... When is Poundland finally gonna start selling GPUs?
They'll probably wait untill the shortage is over...so hopefully, before the heat death of the universe.

Although it would be very interesting to see how an EGA card would perform in a modern PC with PCIe slots. Windows 3.1 was the last Windows version to natively support EGA, although you can run Windows 95 (and possibly 98, I can't remember) on EGA using the Windows 3.1 EGA driver.
Thank you ashens, you are the best person on RUclips to watch while being sick, just the tone of your videos have such an anxiety free feeling.
One of the rare videos where most of the Poundland products are actually winners.
Poundland selling quality stuff might be the worst possible thing to happen to Ashens
I've gotten a lot of actual decent stuff from poundland
Guess that's what happens when Poundland starts charging more than a pound.
I wish that was the case for stores like Dollar Tree (formerly everything was $1 +tax) and Five Below (formerly everything was $5 +tax or below) here in the US. They just recently started charging more for certain products.
13 minutes into the video and I'm like "Am I sure I'm watching Ashens?" Not often you get videos with this many positive reviews in a row!
I bought the keyboard from Dealz in Ireland ~2 years ago, since I needed one to setup a RPi. It works fine and I've thrown it around a lot without issues.
The microphone on that headset is actually incredible for the price. Absolutely good enough for voice chat in a game.
Generally trying to fix a computer by hitting it is called 'percussive maintenance '. It is generally frowned upon in the IT community. Especially by users.
The classic joke “I rebooted my computer today. The first kick did fuck all” springs to mind!
I call it a 'love tap'.
Man, I can't imagine a budget store having a decent range of electronic stuff, let alone anything good.
That's amazing.
Impressive how good the mics are
Well, Mic technology isn't as sophisticated as people think and decent mics are available for low price.

I've had 30 dollar headphones that sounded like I attached two fans to my ears with someone singing behind them.
I would say it’s the first one since most of them make a ton of money out of RUclips.
I would say that even their high-end gaming headsets sound a lot better.
Sounds about right for $30 headphones tbh
Someone should send Dank Pods the Hawk headset.
I'm sure he would love a big box of audio tat from Ashens.

i've been waiting for an Ashens x Dankpods collab for a considerable time now
6:47 That looks identical to a £20 Microsoft branded headset that was as common as mud about 15 years ago. They were really good quality for the price (at the time).
yep, it's an identical clone to the Microsoft LX-3000. except that one is USB and it's still sold today even if it's decades old.

Some bios only allow ps/2 access. Always worth having one in the repair bag

Before I sold the KV-4000 I did make sure to take a bunch of good photos since it isn't that well documented, need to get those public online somewhere.
I find cheap gaming mice over designed which is weird. Design wise that is.
that's mighty quick for another upload. the tardis calendar isn't just affecting the second channel's time it seems.
I can say with a fair amount of certainty, that no desktop or laptop has ever been made with a 3.5 _inch_ audio jack.

Mousing requires less precise movement than writing, and mouse-on-the-right is the default in many public computing environments, so I would imagine this scenario is quite common.
it didn't look that big on camera...
Ashens is a masterclass on how to sweat properly, and tactfully. He doesn't swear too often but when he does it is very much to the point, and often quite hilarious.
I don't care about the latency I just like wired because I don't have to fuss with batteries.
No serious mouse use batteries anymore. They last for a few days, and you just plug it in while you sleep.
This isn't the late 2000s, wireless mice have internal batteries charged through micro USB connections now. I just have my mouse charging cable resting on my desk and after about 4 days I plug it in for a few hours (you can still use it while it's charging) and it's good to go again.
@@Jackerlus1 it's crazy how people still think wireless mice have latency and battery issues.

The only benefit of the overdrive speaker would be stereo audio. Gaming in mono is no fun.
I thought I'd seen that headset before! Microsoft sold one call the LifeChat LX-3000 and it looks the same apart from the cable is USB!

How can people still have absolutely atrocious microphones in multiplayer games when there are 6£ headsets with a decent mic?
With this kind of quality, the weakest link will be whatever noise is in the room, the compression the games do when transmitting audio, etc. We really live in a golden age of super cheap audio

Bluetooth speaker isn't good for gaming cause delays, also not good for switch when docked or Wii with HDMI adapter
But to be fair, for gaming PC a soundbar is weird since we all have at least a decent 2.0 or 2.1 speaker system at bare minimum
yep. those cheapo Logitech 2.1 sets are actually not that bad at all.

I'd love for some channel like Gamers Nexus to actually test that mouse. The mousepad seems to be genuinely well made.
