Cords get knotted because of probability. In terms of knot topology, there is only one state that is "untangled", while every other state has at least one knot in it. As the cords get jostled around in a package, bag, or pocket, the chances of them remaining untangled drop to infinitesimal levels as time and jostling go on. Edit: I'm pretty sure the magnets are part of the speaker drivers, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
If people really want a set of wireless earbuds way better than those, get a set of sony wI-C310's off amazon. They're only about the equivalent 3 pounds more, have a way better (still not good) microphone, 10 hours or so of battery life and actually sound pretty good for the price. Much better for almost the same price.
Honestly I find the head phones I get from Dollarama over here in Canada (which tends to share similar products with Pound shops in the UK) to be alright, I mean for 4 bucks they sound as good to my ears as the 20-30 dollar sony or panasonic headphones I've gotten in the past.
I usually just buy headphones for only a few dollars more than Dollarama from FactoryDirect but they no longer seem to be selling the sub-$15 Canadian wired Philips over-the-ear headphones that had a "flat" even sound profile (as opposed to V-shaped sound with too much bass and too low middle), or I buy the basic Sony earbuds that are still only around $10 Canadian at Walmart but perhaps this video will inspire me to try the "nicer" earbuds at Dollarama. Any time I've actually perused the headphones at my local Dollarama, they usually only have those "quiet" earphones marketed as being safe for children to listen to.
As someone who has used a lot of 5-6$ headphones it seems like they have no standards as every pair is a bit different even when it's the same brand name. I have gotten some pairs with good sound quality, some with bad sound, some with good mics, some with broken mics that don't work from the start. It's all a gamble, if you are lucky you get ones with a good mic and good sound.
@@Gatorade69 I think I get good value with the cheap Sony earbuds I use because they're earbuds-only. I don't need them to have built-in microphones as I'm not using them with cell phones.
@@Gatorade69 So far I've been pretty lucky with the stuff I get from dollarama in terms of sound quality (at least in my opinion), though the build quality can be hit or miss. So far I've had to buy at least 3 pairs of head phones this year because the first pair had the left earbud suddenly die, the 2nd pair developed a bad connection in the plug, and the third pair I have right now is a tiny bit flakey but I'm thinking that this time it might actually be the head phone jack on my computer speakers or the speakers own cable that plugs into the computer. Either way, for me they sound pretty good. I just wish they didn't break so often in ways I can't repair them, and it would be nice if they didn't use "ribbon" style cables which tend to curl up in weird ways that distracts me.

I had that type of wireless headphones (different brand, ~€15) for a while. The magnets are there so you can pull them out of your ears and wear them as a necklace and not lose them. I mostly used them to stick them to the side of my PC case so I didn't lose them.
I actually liked how Stuart gave his opinion on what the things should cost like, or how muc he would like to see them go for. I'd like to see that more.
I remember when poundland was a hodgepodge shop (this is before their corporateisation) where not only was everything a pound but the slogan was her today gone tomorrow. and somehow the product quality was much higher back then.
for reference Woolworths was still open at the time.
yeah I dated myself with that
A few years ago when I was a uni student my laptop keyboard just died on me the day before an assignment was due, there was a Poundland nearby and I got a £1 keyboard, ended up using it for a full year instead of getting the laptop fixed. God bless Poundland tech
Forgot this was Ashens and was sad when these nuggetphones weren't exploded by a DAC.
ScArLeT fIrE 🔥
Well, we used to get the torch to shit items but that had to end due to fire safety.
The brown couch needs its own Frank, honestly.
NGL, though, when I saw the speaker come out, I hoped he'd play Scarlet Fire, and then immediately wished we could see these two colab. 😆
I was sad when there was no story being told over those mics.
Wait they’re not even doing whole integers of pounds? Ffs
I literally watched the old pound land technology special earlier today. Great stuff
In 2018 I got Poundland USB to Apple Lightning cables for £1 each. I bought only two and wish I’d bought more but I wasn’t in Britain for long.
Looks nicer packaging than it did in the old Signalex days.
I can definitely see a wire on those wireless headphones - it's connecting the ear buds together.
Quite like that retro Bluetooth speaker... The front looks like the grill on a Jeep Renegade. A car I used to have and sort of miss.
Also the Jeep TJ.. I’m tempted to get on and have it on my dash!
Definitely a Jeep vibe to it. Or a robot pig...
A super thunder patrol meister
We have been blessed by ashens with another poundland video, REJOICE!!!
RE: headphones and knots, research knot theory, absolutely fascinating stuff....
I'd be interested in hearing a knot theory explanation for why clipping the end of the cord to your device prevents 95% of knotting.
@@AdmiralJota wait
Wait like clipping off the bit that plugs in?? Why would you do that???
@@PointsofData Not clipping it *off*. Clipping it to the device. My MP3 player has a clip on the back for attaching it to your clothes while you're listening. When I'm not using it, I put the earbud ends of the cord through there. It works like a charm.
2024 the rewatch of the best channel on youtube, Dr Ashens
I am always so happy when Ashens puts videos out.
My favorite videos of Ashens is always the electronic ones. Or gaming.
Most wireless mice have built in rechargeable batteries now, it took me a while to find a good one that didn't so I could rotate a few sets of rechargeable AA's with it so it doesn't become a wired mouse when the battery dies.
But a wireless mouse can last over 1 year with one set of batteries. Not a real problem
@@oliverstemp9132 They mean when the proprietary battery eventually craps out completely. they don't have to worry about the battery breaking and being unable to use their mouse if it's just via AA's
@@ravenvalentine9823 I have a Microsoft Modern Mobile mouse with Triple As, it’s amazing
Fairly dull
Ashens’ Poundland products are amongst my favourites.
A nearly feature length Ashens Poundland special? I must be dreaming
this is one of those videos that makes me realize i've spent a third of my life watching a guy across the pond talk about dollar store stuff on a couch
... and eat incredibly dodgy food.
For me it's roughly half my life. This channel has been a longer constant in my life than some family members.
Please review their gaming line! After the weird varied quality of these I'm curious what the gaming stuff is like.
This reminds me of a decade ago, when life was full of joy and bitterness was unbeknown to me.
laughing my ass off how they went for the 'pro gamer exposed chassis' aesthetic on a fuckin
poundland keyboard
There was an attempt.
Poundland E-Sports Team when?
It's all marketing, especially when it comes to gaming keyboards. I own one from cooler master, which has great movement on most keys, except for the space bar, but that's a key you hardly use, right? Right?😬
That microphone on the wired headphones really did sound brilliant! I swear I've got microphones that cost upward of £20 that sound more like the Bluetooth ones.
Good ol' Poundland! 😆
Glory be! A new Poundland tech video from Ashens, good things do indeed happen in this cruel cruel world. Edit: Hello, Mentski! (I think that’s how you spell it)- 26:03
I've only ever heard Ashens say "glory be" and until ten seconds ago I thought it would be spelled "glory bee", so thank you for that clarification.
@@niklasl3880 You’re welcome, I guess. (Woulda replied to this earlier but didn’t get a notification)
Hi.
@@Mentski Well, this is unexpected, hello Mentiski! Quick question- I know you’ve probably been asked this a bunch of times, but why does Stuart keep putting you as an (for lack of a better word) easter egg in his videos?
@@tonybeattie3980 Eh?
"Your dongle is here, obviously, just stick your dongle in here..."
My thoughts while polishing my wooden furniture: (What? Is Ashens showing my dongle online? Turns toward screen and laughs at my own distracted thoughts)
Update: I am actually polishing furniture and getting slightly weird from the fumes, it was not a metaphor for something else... That is not something I would (or could) do to any Ashens video lol
The magnets are to wear it as a necklace when it's not in your ears.
Knot Entanglement Probability. Sounds like something Douglas Adams would have written about! 🤔😉☺
Haven’t been here for about 8 years, glad to see not much has changed
Those headphones really missed a good chance for the box to say eargonomic instead of ergonomic.
YEOW!
I love your tech videos! Really missed them. Would love a popstation watch if you ever found another set.
should send the headphones to dankpods, would love to hear one of his little stories through that mic
Absolutely in awe at the wireless speaker with hidden built in radio. What a bit of kit for £8.
Sony makes some good stuff. I still wish they’d make stuff in other countries other than China.
That's like the Space Balls of UPC barcodes on the keyboard box! Lol
Didn’t even notice you switched mics, that’s pretty good
I've given so many tours of Poundland. Especially to my wife.
Thanks to expansion of Poundland on foreign markets, for two years now we have Dealz in Poland. Its the same shop but with different name. Its great 👍
Wait! We have Poundland in Poland?! Well I never... I live in the middle of nowhere so it completely escaped my attention!
It's been awhile since I watched some Ashens. Good to see you're still getting a solid view count, Stu.
I don't think I've ever seen you this moderately positive in an episode on Poundland.
THE Embossed design on that BT speaker looks EXACTLY like the front of a jeep wrangler
I was laughing at the cheap quality of these mic’s…and then I realized I was listening to this on my crappy $8 Wal-Mart ones!
Hail corporate.
Glad your videos havnt changed over the years, still fun to watch
Absolutely epic Christmas gift, Stuart! :D
The Mini Retro Speaker is actually quite brilliant. Using it right now and am very happy. Brilliant little extension to your mobile speaker.
Stuart, the only crazy person to spend 100£ in Poundland
I can now confirm. After a year, That the vido keyboard can complete a 80,000 word novel and not fall apart. Yes I hate myself 😑
I just wish they didn't break so often in ways I can't repair them, and it would be nice if they didn't use "ribbon" style cables which tend to curl up in weird ways that distracts me.
the gods have blessed us with a poundland video this winter
Some half decent stuff there. That tripod could also be used as a table top mic stand. :)
Yes!! Everytime I've gone into a Poundland recently I've seen this new viido range and their new gaming range and immediately thought "man, Ashens will love this" hopefully get that gaming gear episode will definitely be interesting to see if any of it is any good or just utter tat!
The Ashen man has blessed us with more Poundland Specials™
