The quotes at the end simply mean that: THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS WILL NOT VOTE, NOT because they won't or don't care, but rather, DUE TO THE LACK OF AN ACTUALLY WORTHY CANDIDATE who would speak and do for them. (Kinda hasn't changed since I saw these guys live in my teens....)
You know in the constitution it says its your duty as a citizen to abstain from voting if you don't think there are any worthy candidates, as a way of showing your displeasure with the options available. If only more people would follow that instead of feeling like they HAVE to vote for someone just because. If every single American decided to band together and universally not vote, or even just a large enough percentage of us, it would FORCE the system to make major revisions.@@VintageWanderer
It changed with Trump whether you like him or not. That's why the media crucified him because he went against the establishment. There has never been a right and left just the illusion. Every sitting president before Trump was a Freemason and or skull and bones all serving the same master.
@@VintageWanderer I have taken the opposite approach. A candidate must earn my vote. They both are evil and corrupt. Hold them accountable for failed policies and their corruption.
They aren’t telling you not to vote. They are giving an Explanation as to why nobody votes. They don’t vote cause there is no real difference between the two parties and both are evil. The guy at the end that said “ if you don’t get turned on to politics, politics will be turned on you” was Ralph Nader who tried to run for president in the Green Party several times. The song is speaking to the need for more than two political parties.
The Dems and the GOP quickly acted in unison to block Nader's participation in the race, demonstrating how both parties are controlled by an elite that has their own self-serving agenda and isn't interested in Americans having an actual democratic choice in their representatives. You just end-up getting to choose whether the person who will enact the preordained policy of tax-cuts for the wealthy will do it while wearing a blue tie or a red one. It's literally the least democratic system that can still be even loosely defined as a "democracy" at all.
They not saying don't vote. They're saying the system "the machine" has only let its approved candidates reach the ballot, and American's apathy towards voting implies the people think there's little meaningful choice in those votes. Obviously he's saying this in the context of Bush and Gore 20 years ago, I don't know what their views are now.
When this song was released (1999), 50% of American voters opted out. This song is about voter disenfranchisement due to the bipartisan consensus that would just 2 years later get us into a 20 year long war. Dem vs Rep...same side of the coin. They were happy to march us into the Middle East. And when that, combined with the consensus on rolling back financial protections, crashed the economy they were happy to reap the rewards and allow the taxpayer and workers (see: current autoworker issues) to foot the bill. Folks can trash RATM (and other bands) for their communism, but the unchecked predatory capitalism that's currently running our country has transferred a majority of the nation's wealth to the 1% and left Americans sick, under educated, broke, and angry.
Poverty has fallen considerably, worldwide. This 1% myth is a lie. If you want to see poverty, we need to end slavery in foreign countries who make all of our shit for NOTHING. Then you will have a clue what widespread poverty is. Slavery went away and came back harder, out of sight, out of mind. You want to know how you'd act if slavery was taking place in the modern day, this is it. You shrugged your shoulders.
So..im a RAGE fan...and i like the way you listen to the song....then pull up the lyrics and make sense of Zach's metaphors..if you haven't checked out ..down rodeo..you should..a+.. video
Exactly!! Well said, I didn't want to say anything, and come off rude, you said it much better than I would have. I love their reactions to RATM, but get frustrated after each one, cause they take stabs in the dark at what they thought the lyrics were. There a lol of good lyric videos out there too.
For me Battle of Los Angeles isn’t as good as the first 2 albums but I like it a lot. Of all the lyrics you guys analyze, I like the RATM songs because still to this day I can’t totally grasp their meaning.
The last man speaking was Ralph Nader, who was the nominee for the Green Party. The saddest irony is that the votes he received took the Presidency away from Al Gore, the Democratic nominee. Our world changed for the worse in 2000. We can only speculate the different world (No 911 possibly) if Gore had won that election. Hard lesson learned there.
No, they're not saying don't vote. They're saying that people won't vote because we don't have choices. However, we do have choices, we don't HAVE to pick just team red or team blue. People need to pay attention and understand how the electoral college actually works. The electoral college isn't chosen UNTIL the general election votes have been counted.
As others have mentioned, the fact that, in nearly every election, the vast majority of American voters do not vote is a reflection of the reality that the system we have is less a "democracy" than tyranny dressed-up with as little in the way of democratic trappings as the oligarchs who control society can get away with giving us. This is due to the "first-past-the-post" nature of American democracy, which is an incredibly obsolete and inefficient system. In a FPTP system, the winner of any contest is the one who gets the most votes. Sounds good, right? The problem comes when you realize that, if you have, say, 2 left-leaning candidates and one far-right one, the far-right candidate can have 65% of the vote go against them and still win 100% of the power (this is due to "vote-splitting", eg. the 65% of votes that are for someone other than the fascist get "split" into blocks of 32% and 33%, leaving the fascist with 35% as the victor). This forces a consolidation of political parties in order to avoid vote-splitting, so you end-up with a 2-party system where the power-brokers only have to control the executives of each party in order to control politics entirely, resulting in a system often described as "choosing which of 2 doors to use to enter the same room". Hence all the examples in the video of how the GOP and Democrats largely have no policy differences on many important issues, leaving voters with no real power other than to choose whether the candidate who will enact the will of the oligarchic donor class that controls both parties will have a D or an R next to their name when they do it. The frustrating thing is that these problems were all solved decades ago by other democracies, with systems like instant run-offs or single transferable votes or proportional representation, all of which are far more effective in giving the public actual choices in their representatives and accurately translating the will of the voting public into a government that represents those wishes. But America chooses to keep the system that gives oligarchs all the control. One way you can see this happen is in the fact that progressive, people-centered policies are incredibly popular and would result in landslide Democratic victories if they were to offer said programs, but the corporatists in the Democratic party prefer to leave the vast majority of total American votes on-the-table rather than break the system that sees a politician in either a blue or red tie enact exactly the same preordained policy of tax-cuts for the wealthy, as has been the case for the last half-century or so.
it doesn't matter who you vote for, the war machine nor OPEC don't care, the military industrial complex is much bigger than who is president. U.S. parties don't matter when it comes to the world stage. the U.S. dollar is backed by Saudi oil, again doesn't matter left or right in the U.S. those two industries and those who control them control both sides.
