Hi, Portuguese here, the portuguese like all Indo-europeans come from the same tribe the Yamnaya, they invaded the Iberian Peninsula 5000 thousand years ago, when we look at the haplogroup R1b, most if not all Portuguese carry it, R1b is also the most common haplogroup in people from Western europe, Northen europe and the Ukranian and Russian steppe, we have know that the Yamnaya are from this area and that around 5000 thousand years they conquered there way into Europe eventually making there way to the Iberian Peninsula and in just 100 years all male bloodlines dissapeared, the Iberian DNA continued through the Iberian women that passed their genes to the sons and daughters they had with the Yamnaya invaders, the father gives the Y chromosome and like i mentioned before all male bloodlines dissapeared from Iberia the only that remained is the Yamnaya one confirming further that we like all other Europenas descend from this culture. To make clear this group of people were so influencial in todays world that we are still speaking a language that comes from theirs (latin also comes from early Indo-European). But let me clarify what i mean when i say that the we descend from this nomadic steppe warrior culture and why their Haplogroup is imporant to make us understand where we come from, Haplogroup R1b, specifically the Z2103 subclade of R1b-L23, is the most common Y-DNA haplogroup found among the Yamnaya specimens. This haplogroup is rare in Western Europe and mainly exists in Southeastern Europe today, Additionally, a minority are found to belong to haplogroup I2, however most Europeans carry some from of the R1b haplogroup. To sumarize if you are European you most likely have the R1b haplogroup meaning that you are a direct descendant of the Yamnaya, the Iberians today are a mix of the native Iberians and part of the Yamnaya and Bell beaker culture (wich is just a later culture that is descendant of the Yamnaya). They also invented the wheel and tamed the horse and their height was around 180cm on average and some of them reached the 195 cm in height let me remind this was the Bronze age there height is most likely due to the hability of drinking raw milk in adulthood, its now knowed they refused agricultural life style wich means they were not sedentary and eated little to no grains this explains why their teeth are still in perfect condition in the moment of death, this indicates that their diet was mostly meat, milk, honey and some eggs and fruits, there is also evidence that they gived Europeans the hability of consuming milk in adulthood.

The Iberian peninsular was the major trade, marketing place in Europe - all cultures either conquered or had a foothold there - and they contributed to the rise of the Roman Empire a lot. They were rich in agriculture and famous for the silver mines. There was no real Iberian peninsula wide culture / realm - it was alway split in many smaller territories. It took the Romans 200 years to conquer all of the peninsular. That changed after the Reconquista...but that´s a different story all together.

The Phoenicians were definitely descendents of Shem... They are the product of later Canaanites who were semitic and spoke a semetix language which passed on to the Carthaginians...
