Thanks for this video! I am learning to sail on my new c22 and heeling has been the hardest part to get used to. Seeing this makes me feel a lot better about it. I sail in North Texas ona deep lake so the wind and waves can get pretty intense for a newbie.
Glad the video helps. I am still trying to get used to how the boat behaves in stronger winds with too much sail up. It seems like the boat will take care of itself. I would not carry that much sail out in the ocean or big bay where the waves get much larger for fear o& getting hit by large waves when heeled over, but in a lake like where I sail it is fine. I have been hit by gusts where the boat heeled so far that water washes over the rail and got into the cabin. Now, in string winds I keep a companion way bottom board in. I don’t sail the boat that hard often, but when I do I try to get some video to help entice my son to come with me as he only likes to sail when there is a lot of wind.
Why not pay a little of the main sheet out when the puffs hit. Sailing with a big heel is not comfortable or fast. If your boat is trying to round up as it was - then you have way too much canvas out. Keep up the videos but stay safe.
Excellent observation! My problem is my son won’t come out unless there is winds high enough we can heel over enough to put the rail or winch in the water. Weather helm is very bad when I have too much jib up and the winds are gusting. I am constantly pulled between flat is fast from the racers in the sailing club and my son saying but it’s not fun…..
Are you ok Tom? I have too much sail up in this amount of wind? You think I don’t know that? You think everyone doesn’t know that? I don’t know anything about sail trim? It’s kind of hard to do all that while filming and trying to stay on the boat. You watching me sail and learn about what the boat will do is obviously causing you distress. Might I recommend you just stop watching ?
great sail

It is the swing keel version.
Gust chaser now
no new video?
I’m working on it. lol. Probably later today.
Which keel-version do you have? Lifting or fixed?

This dude has no clue how to sail. You're over canvased and you have zero clue about sail trim.
