One thing I normally carry on every ride is my MSR pocket rocket stove because I always like the option to pull over and make a coffee or hot tea. On longer rides, I carry my Eagle Nest Outfitters hammock. It packs down to the size of a softball, and I like to pull over and hang out for a bit, preferably in the shade. I like a basket on my bikes so I have easy access to my jacket and camera. I also keep my large air horn and bear spray for aggressive dogs, which we have a plethora in our area. Not to mention real bears and mountain lions. Usually, I just explore every road and track I can find or fill in areas of the map on my GPS.
Nice! This videos music is from a podcaster/musician/photographer that lets people use it for free(I always throw some money his way though). Link in the description.
Nice eclectic route. Having a "goto" casual route to ride like this is another dreary weather motivation factor. Dress right, no planning, just riding.
I’m an old road bike guy who flinches every time you take off into the grass; then I remember that I ride tubeless 47mm semi-slick tires, and I do that all the time now too. Old dogs, old habits.😉
I really like the liminal spaces in your videos. I moved to Denver from St. Louis, MO 4 yrs ago and really miss grungy industrialness of riding in the midwest.
GREAT video as always. 😊 It most definitely feels like a long summer for me. There’s a bike ride that happens once every year thru a park that is lit up with holiday lights. This is the first time I did it just shorts and summer socks. 🎄✨⛄️
It just finally dropped around here(I'm guessing there too). Crazy my first ride with some flurries and in the 30's was just two days ago! Now we have my least favorite weather - rain and 30s...
EQD! That's awesome. It's snowing here in MI today, but it has otherwise been a warm fall. Trying to make the best of it, full well knowing it ain't right. I dig this slice-of-life video!
Just had hand surgery so I have to ride the Akron area vicariously through your videos this winter. Keep em coming as you can. With 12 weeks of down time they are greatly appreciated. This one hit all the marks for me.
Nice! I do the clean images of the pedals on white(like what you see in the manuals). Also the staff photos which they show as baseball cards. My band used to play with some of Jamie(the owners) bands.
I was at an event they were at today and they were telling me a dude from Canada showed up last week and rang the doorbell. They gave him a tour! (I mentioned you after that)
@ haha as if, I’m not sure that’s the most Canadian thing to do (to just show up) but.. when in Rome I guess! Nice to hear that they’re cool folks too, makes me like their pedals even more.
@@TimFitzwater We sure can. I bought and older Trek Hybrid over the summer that I was going to ride in the winter months but have grown to like it too much. Now I have to find a beater I won't get too attached to.
Glad to hear that! The more pedals people buy the more I get to photograph. Just did a super cool new one last night! Excited for people to see it(we got to do something more unique with the photos!)
like the route Tim....i did NOT know that the bridge connecting the Falls to Akron is under consideration to be demolished/replaced. i felt the main project of concern is the Gorge Dam being removed. perhaps that bridge will come after the Dam removal. your gravel tires are very accommodating on all services. i see why you favor them when you are out/about.
It’s not an if but a when. The planning process is already funded and under way. Not sure how much the dam project will affect it but I’m sure they have thought about all that. Lots going on there. The only timeline I heard is that they want the Route 8 bridge done first.
Watching your video I can't remember the last time I went out and just rode. I'm either commuting, as I have no car, or I'm out to hurt my muscles to keep my touring strength up. Great video! My cat is orange and white and is the shop cat, but he's not as friendly, he barely lets people pet him. He's my moody boy!
@@TimFitzwater I live in a small town on the oregon coast and we just don't have much riding other than 2 country roads and US hwy 101. There is a couple places those I could ride thru, just only get like 5 miles. I like to go for at least 30 on my weekend rides. I've had my boy since he was 6 weeks old, and hes almost 12 now. One days hes super friendly to random people the next he's super paranoid! He's my boy!
Has the snow made its way out there yet? We just dropped into the low 30s. Earthquaker is great - I ride with some of the employees now and used to play music with many of them back in the day.
I need to develop this attitude of riding even if the weather is a bit cold. But I’m still looking forward to getting home to the southern hemisphere and enjoying some summer riding.
@@TimFitzwaterYeah, our snow didn't last either. Seeing the flowers still blooming was impressive though, it reminded me of last year's fall and winter. I'm curious what it will be like in Jan and Feb.
Awesome! I'm photographing a pedal right now in the studio. I know a lot of the people who work(ed) there and the guy who got me the photography gig is a bike friend.
Riding everyday in SE WI until today with winds and snow. I like your ride videos with the varied urban views. Selling stickers is nice but how do we get those big bandanas?
Thanks! I went out in the snow today! First day in the mid-30s. This bandana is from Ron's Bikes. I may do another run of my bandanas at some point though.
How are the Rene Herse knobby tires? I have run several versions of their slicks from 650Bx42, 700x38, and currently 700x44, all with the Extralight casing. I've been tempted to try the knobbies despite not actually riding much gravel. On the road, are the knobbies significantly slower? I think perhaps a second set of wheels to run knobbies on would be best for the kind of riding I do.
Rene Herse knobbies are surprisingly fast on the road. They really did an amazing job with the design. I do long road rides with them and they may technically be slower but they never feel draggy at all.
Tim finally got our first cool day here in Galveston high 67 this weekend will be back in the 80's (global warming is real) usually in the 50's by now. love your videos bro!! Makes me want to move up there. Looks like there are so many interesting places to ride and all interconnected! Way different than here.
It’s did snow yesterday and today - ground is too warm for it to stick yet though. We do have some interesting places to ride - winter and early spring can be tough here though!
Awesome! That keeps me in business way more than these videos! I actually had to go back to pick up a new one today. It going to be an interesting release.
I'm wishing I had savored the recent warm weather more. The shock to the system riding to work this morning when it was 27 degrees F with a blustery NW wind making it feel like 19 degrees, was a rude wake up call. And next week just gets worse. Had to happen some time, but it always takes a while to get used to it.
I appreciate the feedback - I believe it to be a minority opinion though. (When I work on professional projects there is always a music bed). And I get lots of positive comments on my music selections… Cheers! 🍻

Nice!
Being in the city I only carry those kind of things if I plan to use them - they aren't part of my every day carry.
I have definitely learned not to hesitate on a ride. If the weather is good "GET OUT" because in the Midwest, it can change fast!
And it did - 34 and snowing now!
Because the next day it will be storming its ass off or it will go from 70* to -20* in 24hours 😂😂
@@TimFitzwater yes, Browns game was awesome with the snow last night...no cycling today...perhaps saturday/sunday
also, love the music....your theme music reminds me of playing a video game

A definite added benefit to riding wider tires is that brick roadways are smoothed out compared to roadies’ pizza cutter tires.

I did this way to much when I did ride road bikes - makes the gravel bike seem so luxurious.
Hello Tim from Long Island NY, cool little ride showing us all the different sides of your town and Edmund 🤠
Edmund is the best part!
Thanks for the relaxing ride, Tim. A little chill time helps a lot these days.

There is something about it.
I will admit that I had to look up "liminal space."
Watched this before my icy bike path commute here in icy northern uk . Be careful out there people
We have snow on the ground here today!

Impressed with the mix of surfaces and your ‘just ride it’ approach.
That’s why I almost always ride a gravel bike. I used to do this on vintage road bikes - that was a lil rough!
A perfect ride, just for the joy of riding.
Digging the soundtrack.

Mini-adventures . No one gets that.

If it was the back door he would be gone - it is really loud with fast traffic out the front.

Dude, I agree. I always try to squeeze in gravel where I can, especially locally in the Toledo area.
