Every time I see early 70s Steve, I get excited. Truly those were some golden years.

🎹 I knew Steve when I lived in NYC in the 70's
And I cherish the letters he wrote me...
Including one in which he critiques my music and lyrics.

Amazing! How did you meet him? What was he like? Did you ever speak on his work?

Sondheim was surprisingly accessible to fans and was extremely gracious about answering fan mail. I have a few letters from him and a few random signed items too.

At the end we see Dean Jones singing for the original cast recording. Shortly after opening night, he withdrew from the show, due to stress that he was undergoing from ongoing divorce proceedings. Director Harold Prince agreed to replace him with Larry Kert if Jones would open the show and record the cast album. He agreed, and his performance is preserved on the original cast album. But it was Kert who received the Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Musical.

Love this musical, have seen it twice and can't imagine this remake with a female playing Bobby....

I can't find a recording of it but I'd think it turns a whole new meaning to it too

5:50 They all have normal teeth -- unthinkable today.

These are only normal teeth if you grew up with poor nutrition, brushed sparsely, never flossed, and smoked for 20+ years. The average person's teeth haven't looked like this in 40 years.

Absolutely wonderful musical in its original 1970s version.. Not as good once the cast got racially 'diversified' to push interracial relationships but what aspect of entertainment isn't contaminated by that indoctrination

I saw the reverse gender production in London a couple of years ago. It was enjoyable, but the more I listen to the original cast, the less of a good idea it seems.

i think the revival they did when the cast played the instruments was great too, good symbolic take on the show weaved into that choice and was a great revival, but agreed nothing in recent years comes close to the original production

The Adrian lester 1996 Bobby is one of the most emotional and hard hitting versions i have ever seen, but of cource you can deprive yourself of that performance by being a bigot and calling a depiction of people simply loving eachoter "indoctrination"
