I actually kept myself from watching any anime for years in fear of being judged for watching it. I even pretended that I thought anime was stupid just so I could attempt to fit in with the people around me. It really sucks how judgement from others can cause people to not try things they are interested in.

I was guilty of this in middle school, and then I went to highschool and found a new group of friends that were less judgemental and toxic. My new friends even helped me get into anime and gave me some good recommendations which was very cool. One of my favorite memories from that era was hanging out with my buddies and binging Death Note together, since it was my first time watching.

I realized two years later that this video may have inspired me to pursue what I previously considered “guilty pleasures” that I liked, but would never admit to liking. For instance, I like watching animatics, even when I have no clue what the animator is animating. That confidence boost led to me trying new things I considered cringe such as Monster Prom and Deltarune, and they’re now two of my favorite games. Thanks, Dom. this is really accurate! rewatching this again but i already overcome this phase. i use to have criterias before (mentally) accepting co-fans. but i still have this mentality to not order the same things ordered by people i know because i feel guilty and i don’t want them to think that i’m copying them. even though i head over heels love that something.

Well, when I was a kid, i liked girly stuff, but as i got older, i turned into a tomboy and it was no phase, it was the new me. I started to like boyish things during elementary school and middle school. But things changed, i started to like cute things again during high school and i realized something, I'm actually my own tomboy. Society told me things about tomboys, what they should and what they shouldn't like.
I feel like there was a missed point: You're allowed to like things - as long as it doesn't hurt other people. (Actually hurt, not an inherent bias)

Last year I tried my best to fit in class, in my family and group of friends. Do what they also do, hate what they hate and act like how they act. Though it took a long time to be myself, I'm starting to get a hold of it so thanks Dom, really helpful and will try to become confident about myself.

I know Im late to this video shush. I needed to hear this. My grandma does the whole "your too old for this" Or "are u even a girl?" Or once I was just looking at pokemon stuff at barnes and noble and get told "aren't you too old for that?" I hate people like this. I have a wide range of interests but people keep on trying to put me in certain groups. I like anime, I also play football and other sports. I like every kind of music. I play video games, a lot of them. Yet I like chess and strategy games. I also love farming and working on cars, as well as going in hikes. Yet people keep on judging me when I do anything and put me in a specific group. It's really annoying and pisses me off.

Was like that in high school. But I also started noticing a lot of other football players were low-key into anime as well. Truth is, I'm pretty sure almost everyone who has actually watched an anime is low-key into it, but they're too scared to admit it because of the stigma society has put around it

I feel like everyone has been "made fun of" just because of something they like. I know I have and it wasn't fun to hide my interests for literal years until I found a friend who liked the same things as me. Can society just grow up please?

I was made fun of in middle school for being interested in aviation, so I looked up two photos of similar looking planes (b717 and md80) and told them to tell me which ones which. They couldn’t tell and so I proceeded to shame them for being idiots, and pointed out all the differences and “Oh ItS sO oBvIoUs HoW cAn YoU nOt TeLl”.
They were my close friends and we ended up having a good laugh about it afterwards

Same. I take other people's opinions way too seriously, so when I like something that a lot of people hate (which happens surprisingly often), I just get super bummed out. It's so hard for me to enjoy something when all I can think about is how unpopular it is. Videos like this help me feel a lot better about myself and my interests, and I'm grateful for that.

@@NorthNortheast42 No problem! It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one with this issue. It can be really hard being a fan of something people hate.
For instance, two of my favorite franchises are Pokémon and Marvel. You know what they have in common? The popular opinion among both their fandoms is that they've gone downhill in recent years. Of course, people are entitled to their opinion, but as someone who still enjoys the newer entries from both of those series, the constant negativity really gets to me sometimes.
While having unpopular opinions can really suck, I shouldn't let that discourage me from enjoying the things I do. It's tough not letting others' opinions get to me, but knowing I'm not alone makes it a little bit easier.

It's really funny when people talk about being annoyed at a social rule that I didn't know existed. I almost always order the same food as my friend if I'm new to the restaurant!
When he talked about how some people won’t order the same thing as their friends I was genuinely confused never knew this. Me and my friends will go out to sushi and all get the same roll because We absolutely love it the same waitress gets us everytime and she just knows our order

Am I the only one that watches animated videos on RUclips (Domics, Jaiden Animations, TheOdd1sOut, Tabbes and many more) incredibly often? When I'm just doing something I let the videos run in the background and find it very comforting and enjoyable... Man, their content is amazing, I love it :)))
