Welcome to our first-time watching as we react to The Crow (1994). There was so much to love in this film! From the incredible atmospheric ambiance to the unique way of showing us it's poignant storytelling it is no wonder as to why Eric Draven who is portrayed by Brandon Lee became so iconic.
Directed by Alex Proyas, "The Crow" follows Eric Draven, a musician brought back from the dead to seek vengeance against those who murdered him and his fiancée. The film seamlessly integrates the themes of love, loss and redemption and Brandon Lee's performance in this captures every bit of nuance needed to deliver a fantastically crafted character.

Yeah, just saw the trailer for the new The "CROW". Do yourselves a favor and just skip it! Jesus H. F'ing Christ what garbage! Looks like they took Jared Leto's Joker(which was terrible to begin with) and copied and pasted it into a poor mans Crow Universe!
love hearing and seeing your reactions to movies. just want to let you know because you seemed very interested and enjoyed this movie, you might want to check out a podcast called "rogues'gallery". the podcasts talks about villains and antiheroes. in the last month or so they actually did an episode on the crow. they go more in depth on the making, tragedy and how things were done in the movie after the passing of Brandon lee. definite must listen too if you enjoyed this movie.
Please, please, PLEASE also react to The Crow: City of Angels. I feel it's a genuine go at telling a similar story of loss and just revenge in the same mythology but with a different type of loss. It also has a thematic tie to this film in that one of the characters is Sarah as an adult.
I remember when I first saw this I thought the movement of the crow, if it was in a certain range (or perimeter) he could heal but if it moved & repositioned out of that circle than that was why he lost his abilities suddenly. It turned out this was due to memories causing him supernatural pain. That guy mentioned what he did to Sarah at around 14:00 and he lost his power for a few moments.

I like to think that The Dark Knight Rises was a sequel to the crow where he just went full insane lol...afterall heath ledger copied basically this entire movie and so did the producers who made the dark knight. There was also a wrestler called Sting who copied the crows makeup and style

why I prefer the sequel and telling a different story rather than trying to remake such a classic.. did not work well for Ben Hur and never even try to "remake" Princess Bride"
I would give a remake a chance IF and ONLY IF they follow the full plot line in the comic; this movie is classic and I love it, but it did change several things about the plot.
Rochelle Davis who played Sarah in the original version of The Crow said to boycott the new movie, its just a cash-in

Technically he's a revenant
To cut a little deep into the lore, when Eric came back his memories were jumbled and hazy, not able to comprehend what happened to him clearly. But each time he touched something, especially things related to his life, he would experience the memories all at once then. That's why when he picked up Gabriel (the cat), he could see what happened to Shelley even before he entered the room... it was the cat's perspective. Not his own memories. Same thing when he touched Albrecht and got the memories of Shelley in the hospital. The Crow guided him to various tokens of his life, to reveal the truth through psychometry, to help him achieve the justice he sought.
Unfortunately, almost every memory he got on his journey was one that caused him even more pain as the depth of the tragedy sunk in.
Damn... I never realized it in that manner, that's genius that Eric saw what the cat saw.
Yet also, as the film wears on, he regains not just his memories, but HIMSELF. The confrontation with Tin-Tin is fueled by pretty much pure rage, but as he continues, he gains back more of who Eric used to be before that tragedy struck. Bonding with Albrecht and Sarah, having his moments of being funny and witty, but he can never really let go of the rage until his work is done. He kind of gets a last day or so to leave his mark on the world, through the people he touches for the better.
@@erikbjelke4411 another thing that was not clearly portrayed, is that he was brought back purely for revenge. Every time he veered from that, his wounds would open up, hence the reason he had tape in his hands and stomach as the film ran on.
I always understood it a different way, He had all of his memories back, But when he touched something significant like Gabriel, It would bring back all the pain from that memory, and that's how he was able to transfer all that pain into Top Dollar to win the fight at the end

There's no way the remake is going to capture the same magic. So much of the power of this movie comes from (a) the film look of the 90s, (b) the grunge/goth music scene of the 90s. ... I mean, yes, you can make a serviceable horror movie based on the same general premise. But the specific reasons of why the original meant so much to teens back then just don't exist in 2024 culture. It's almost like trying to remake Back to the Future, when so much of *that* movie was centered on 80's iconography.
I think they could do a remake, but not directly off the original, if they want to go an R route they could do a straight comic adaptation, the original takes a fair amount of liberties from the comic is based off of and even if they don't want to use the original comic theres plenty of related stories in the comic universe

When are people going to learn that the vast majority of these remakes bank on nostalgia and precious little in actual substance? It's just not worth it, and they damn sure are not doing a more "comic accurate" version with the remake. Eric Draven looks... Weird. Bad weird.

The trailer for the new one looks and sounds abysmal. No gothic atmosphere. Looks cheap, generic and bland. And don't get me started on the music. Generic autotuned crap.
For those that may be wondering, Eliza Hutton was Brandon's fiancée.
He died on March 31st, 1993.
They were scheduled to be married on April 17, 1993.
The Lee family still refers to her as Brandons widow.
I watched the 11 O’clock news that night thinking it was either (a) an early April Fool’s joke or (b) a marketing ploy in poor taste. I was in a state of disbelief.
Watching DRAGON: THE BRUCE LEE STORY later that year was an emotional moment for me, but it helped me to move past the abject sorrow and at least enjoy THE CROW without being an emotional wreck.
As a then young man of mixed Chinese heritage, Brandon Lee meant a lot to me before the tragedy. To this day, it is the celebrity death which has hit me the hardest.
she later married another man and had a baby with him. Her marriage did not lost long. Brandon was her love.
So his demise was almost similar to that in the movie
The original Crow is what gave birth to one of the most iconic iterations of sting in wrestling

I will never watch the remake. Brandon is Eric. A role he died in. It is a masterpiece. No need to ever remake it. Period. Glad y’all watched it. RIP Brandon.

I disagree... Think of the scenes with the crow flying over the city or the opening shot, or the scenes looking through the eyes of the bird. Those would look AMAZING if they were reshot with modern CGI or 4K IMAX.
If I remember correctly…the guy who made the comic lost his wife….and then he created the crow. His way of grieving and being able to avenge her death. One of my favorite movies of all time.
It's incredible to see how art can be one of the greatest coping mechanisms out there!
He has later said he regrets writing the comic, because it lead to the death of Brandon Lee when they made the movie.

I have "it can't rain all the time" tattooed on my back, this movie was so influential in my life. It came out when I was like 2yrs old but I watched it when I was pretty young (my dad didn't care about censoring me from things lol) so it really stuck out in my mind. I even remember crying as a kid when my dad told me Brandon Lee had died during the filming. It's always been a very weird and strong connection for me.
There was a short lived series with Mark Dacascus. Wasn't bad, really, but, there was one quote in the show I always loved. Sarah asks Eric if he's an angel and his reply is "I'm too angry to be an angel."
Not only did he just transfer the pain, he literally let it go. It's a powerful metaphor, in my opinion.
It is. Also, the only moment in the entire fil that has sunlight is when Eric reveals himself to Sarah in his apartment, and when Darla and Sarah have breakfast. The two moments of hope and /happiness.-
What makes it hit even better is that he took that pain from Albrecht. He thanks him at the end for what he kept "up here".
This movie is a masterpiece. Not only did the film inspire so many films and characters but Brandon Lee did as well. Some movies should never be remade.

the music itself was a character in the movie!!!! heath ledger himself said he took from Brandons performance and look, which is a huge compliment to Brandon and what he created with that character.
Brandon Lee said in his last interview that this was the best movie he had ever been apart of. Heath Ledger said the same thing about being the Joker in The Dark Knight.
When Brandon tragically passed, they used his stunt doubles to finish the film. One of the stunt doubles was Chad Stahelski. You may know that name as the stunt doible for Keanu Reeves in The Matrix and director of the John Wick franchise.

@@dejatwixt9214There is a RUclips video where Micheal Massee does an interview and explains what happened. But if you see it, you can tell that he never truly recovered from that tragic accident, which was never his fault. But like you said Micheal passed away from cancer in 2016.
The scene where they showed his crow makeup for the first time, was Chad Stahelski, but for the first time in movie history, they used a CGI face swap.
Fun facts: The Waschowskis wrote The Matrix in 1993 with Brandon in mind. And the director of John Wick was Brandons best friend and stunt double on The Crow.
Brandon was on his way to be a Star.
Another fact for you. John Wick was written loosely about Marcus Luttrell (Lone survivor) after he chased down guys at speeds over 100 MPH cross state lines because they killed his dog.
Chad and Brandon were not a BEST friends, but they have'd a good professional relationships

Crows are from the Corvid family. Corvids are known for being attracted to shiny things, being very smart, being very loyal, having a relatively long life span and holding a grudge until the day they die. Sometimes other members of the flock (which with crows is called a murder) will continue to carry the grudge after the original bird dies. What a good symbol for the avenger in this movie.
This was Brandon Lee's breakout role and the tragedy of his passing is only matched by how great this film was. Salute!
Fun Hidden Detail: Eric's makeup never comes off when he is immortal - almost like it is immortal as well. After the Crow is injured and he is fighting Top Dollar on the roof, the makeup starts washing off.

One thing that I always think about during the car explosion scene, is when the guy says "This is the really real world, there ain't no coming back" I always took his instant fear look as the realization that there is an afterlife and all this crimes mean he's only going one place, down, and his quote makes him realize this "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is..." The idea conveyed in its fullness is that someone fallen from grace gazes upon someone pure, recognizes their relatively dirty, depraved condition, and despairs. T-Bird stares into the face of the returned, Eric Draven, face painted white, and realizes how this goodness not only instills despair, but stark terror.
That's still one of my favorite acting performances of all time. David Patrick Kelly is an amazing character actor, and he made T-Bird such a great (but PoS) character with that performance.
There's a crow in Christianity? Or maybe you think he's going to be judged by Osiris. We have no idea what afterlife Eric was in, and where he and Shelley were going in the end. T-Bird went "down" when Eric put him in the river. T-Bird's fear came from the fact that he knew there was no way to talk Eric out of blowing him to bits. His victim would not show mercy. His recitation was his way of trying to comfort himself. At heart, he was a coward.

T bird line and fear of "going down" is cause he's a nihilist, ALL of them are Anarchists/Nihilist that beleives only in chaos and Mayhem, and they do it with Glee cause, they don't "fear Retribution" since they don't believe in anything.
Seeing Eric before him, coming back from the Dead, makes him realise that THERE IS SOMETHING, and that he's gonna be judged for His Actions, and that there is consequences.

I've watched the movie probably close to 100 times and that never occurred to me. That's deep, and will probably change the way I watch the movie in the future.

Brandon Lee was so good in this and it breaks my heart that we didn’t get him to see him performing more movies, and live his life with his fiancé😢
Brandon and Eliza were meant to be married just after the film wrapped. Brandon's gravestone is a marker that starts as one solid piece but then splits into opposite directions at the top. They meant it to symbolize how Brandon and Eliza, once united as one, were pulled apart by fate. It's heartbreaking.
I hope now you’ve seen the movie, you can understand why people are so against it being remade!
Altoeri made a great video about the funky remake. She's so based. Also... I seen this channel debate with several subscribers about thus in one of the comment threads below this video and outside of any good points made by this channel in this conversation.... the moment they have to ask what woke is or be told what virtue signaling means or what fan replacement means then most of the conversation is lost to them already. And the gave the typical answer of "how can you say something is bad before seeing it?" Sounds like when pelocy says they have to pass a bill to see what's in it..... we've seen this happen to wheel of time, ROP, and many more, especially star wars... its horribly sad really.... do they not know about the term "consume product and get excited about next new product!"???

Brandon Lee's death hurt everyone on set so badly, especially two actors. Rochelle Davis, who played the little girl Sarah quit acting for over a decade to deal with the severe trauma. The actor, Michael Massee who played Funboy never fully emotionally recovered. He was holding the gun that killed Brandon Lee and was front and center to it all. Michael took a year-long sabbatical from acting. He carried this pain until he died in 2016 at just 64 years young of cancer.
"Little things always used to mean so much to Shelley. I used to think they were kind of trivial. Believe me, nothing is trivial."
I am 44 years old. Almost an odd 45 in the even month of April. I love watching people discovering this movie, my all time favorite. There are many reasons for it but the main one is over the cost of Brandon Lee's life. Had he lived? He would have clearly played Neo, John Wick, and The Silver Surfer 💙

"No, he was already dead; he died a year ago the moment he toucher her. They're all dead, they just don't know it yet." Is one of if not my absolute favourite lines in a film. It is so good. Brandon Lee was one of my favourite actors and if he had been given the opportunity, may have become one of the greatest. This movie has been one of my favourite of all time.

I'm so excited that you both reacted to The Crow, a true Masterpiece. I'm not happy about the remake,but I'm glad you enjoyed the original movie. Michael Massee stopped acting after making this movie, he had so much guilt that he was the one who pulled the trigger that ended Brandon's life. Brandon's mom was the one who told him that it wasn't his fault and they didn't blame him. He did some voice work and a couple of other movies before his death.
In the novel it wasn't because the crow was injured that Eric got weak, it was because Eric has now deviated from the mission, after he had killed all of his targets he was supposed to return to the grave. By choosing to stay and save Sarah his healing power was taken from him, he also risks being stuck there.
Also, cut from the final release was how his healing of Darla suspended his healing power, when Eric had to bind his hands after defensive wounds from Fun Boy slashing at him.
And the Cowboy Skeleton effects didn’t work out, so his character was entirely cut (for the better, I feel).
Thank you. THey did an incredibly fantastic job of showing how insane Eric was. He wasn't in his right mind at all, and driven by rage and the need for retribution. If I remember, in the graphic novel, Fun Boy was killed last of the gang, because of all of them, he realized how evil they were and deserved their deaths. So Eric stole his heroin and made him OD on it. It was the closest thing to mercy he showed.
@@samuelvincent557 T-Bird, who was the leader in the original comics, was actually the last member of the gang to be killed. His car wrecked, and his legs busted, T-Bird sits on the asphalt and watches as Eric approaches with a hammer, as is asked "How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?"
However, Funboy was indeed executed shortly before, and was the only member of the gang who had any self-awareness as you pointed out. He asked Eric to make sure to kill T-Bird slowly before he died of that O.D.
Dystopian Detroit, October 30th 1994. This movie holds a special place in my heart. This was the unfortunate swan song of rising star of Brandon Lee. What the cast and production crew were able to do with the movie with the hand they were dealt with. Was nothing short of amazing. They, as well as us, the audience, honors Brandon Lee's memory by watching this movie

For quite a few years, I've been watching this movie every October 30th. No matter how many times I watch it, it never gets old and my love for this movie never wanes.
The gothic Detroit settings gives off Bloodborne vibes in this film, very unique.

grew up with those devils night fires, it was actually a surprise to learn that every city didn't have them. 1983 (the year I graduated high school) there were over 500 . . . the next year, over 800.
No other movie in cinema history has ever come close to the visual appeal and/or the story telling through visuals as The Crow has done. This movie is such a classic masterpiece.
There are so many layers of sadness to this film. Not only did Brandon die, but he died while filming one of the main action scenes.
Then of course the story is about a dead person being brought back. One half of a couple that were supposed to be married.
And then realize that Brandon himself was engaged to be married so this tragedy took him from his true love.
I remember being hit with all these thought while watching it in the theater. Brandon wasn’t much older than me.
He died when the actor fun boy shot him not in the main action scene. They rushed him into hospital but they were unsuccessful in saving him six hours later.
The origin of the story and graphic novel is sooo sad. The writer created it as a coping mechanism for the guilt he felt about the death of his GF who died in a car accident on the way to pick him up from work.
Yes, we read about that during our research after the movie and we were left breathless. You can just feel the rage and the despair, it's so clear that real life experience is behind the creation of this...

If you’ve never picked up the original comic, it’s totally worth giving it a read. The artwork is so stark and compelling. You can feel the pain O’Barr was trying to process in every image.
Ugh... this is one of my top five favorite movies. I've seen it almost 50 times, and I'm still crying like a baby at the end.
t's not just that he's remembering the feeling of the ring, he can "read" the lives of the other rings, the people that they were taken from. Hence the line as he's throwing the rings at gideon regarding each ring being a life he helped ruin.
Also a downside to his coming back, the longer he stays, more he kills, the harder it is for him to get back to her in the afterlife once it's done - I can't recall if they alluded to this in the movie, but it's in the original comic from what I remember.

They actually changed his weakness. His original weakness was explained in the deleted scenes of “The Skull Cowboy.” It was the moment he stops avenging the dead and starts defending the living (Sarah and Officer Albrecht) he loses his powers. He is not there for the living. They changed it.
What a lot people dont realize is that the crow is a love story.
It starts as a love story but the main theme that drives the plot is revenge.
I remember telling my dad that I couldn’t really explain it. After we watched it, he understood why I couldn’t. It’s a ghost story/vengeance story/love story/supernatural thriller/goth comic book movie.

If his Father Bruce was a 10 in martial arts, he was about a 3 as an actor. Brandon was about an 8 as an actor and a 5 in martial arts. Brandons death was such a tragic loss!
Also, realize that this film has a kind prelude: that entire 1st section from when we enter Eric & Shelly’s circular window into the crime scene - which ends when Eric dons the makeup and costume and looks out that same window with the crow on his shoulder.
It’s the origin story encapsulated which launches the story and the emotion We carry with Eric.
My favourite part of the film has always been T bird's reaction when he recognized Eric. The terror on his face had little to do with his imminent death because Eric's existence proved there would be something after death he died knowing he would face judgment for all the awful things he'd done.
Eric gave him the judgement. What crow is in the mythology of Heaven or Hell? We have no idea where Eric was when he passed away, but I doubt he was facing judgement from Yahweh or Osiris. Those two gods do not let souls come back for revenge. T-Bone's fear came from the fact that Eric would not show mercy, because of the fact that he killed Eric and his girlfriend. That recognition, objection and realization, is my favorite part of the movie. His recitation about the devil, was something he said to try and comfort himself as he faced death at the hands of Eric Draven. He probably said that many times before, when he felt fear or when he was about to kill someone. A twisted mantra.
James O'barr wrote the Crow as a way to get out the hurt and angst he was experiencing after his fiancée was killed by a drunk driver in a hit and run
T-bird represents this bastard fool when he drinks and trespasses and by the end and truly fathoms how awful he was and is appropriately terrorized by what awaits him after his Just bad end-
the writing stands by itself but with context the dramatic irony is just perfectly rendered, on it's tragically beautifully done narrative vengeance, i hope it helped him writing that and he got it out it sucks to feel that much

This movie pretty much epitomizes the 90's all in one go.
I mean you got Shawshank, Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump, The Mask, Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, The Crow, The Lion King all incredibly iconic films

Trivia for you - when Gideons blows up, the guy stealing the tv is actually James O’Barr who created and drew the original comic. Devils night used tombe huge in Detroit for arson and crime. When Mayor Archer was elected he really tried to stop it. I was going up to a friends for Halloween, and there were citizen patrols with yellow lights on their cars are police everywhere. Not really a thing anymore. In the comic he doesn’t heal, just can’t die. Eric when talking to the crow says I can’t be harmed but I can’t heal.

I don’t think either of them are great movies, but they’re definitely enjoyable. The bar scene in Rapid Fire is one of my all-time favourite fight sequences.

You can see the influence this film had on cinema with movies like The Matrix and Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. I also like that it manages to be so ironically 90s while also being timeless at the same time.
James O'Barr created a world with Eric and Shelley in it an wove a dystopian dream for the masses. He opened the door for us to fall in love with each character, or despise another character. The movie put color and music into it plus the anazing, guttural and loving aspects into it. The supporting cast is, of course, superb.
I do not have high hopes for this new movie as its being touted as remake, this movie didnt need to be remade. If they were simply calling it just a crow movie. No one asked for a redo. I wish them good luck.
Rochelle Davis, Sarah, was fantastic in this. She was the avatar for the audience.
She became good friends with Brandon Lee during the filming and his death had a major impact on her and played a big role in her leaving acting.
The Crow remake will be such a colossal fuckup.

And just like in the movie, Brandon and Eliza were right about to get married. He died 17 days before their wedding in Mexico was set to take place.
The scene with Sarah and her mom in the kitchen, is so heartwarming, and heartbreaking, at the same time. When Sarah calls her “Darla” instead of “Mom”, you can really see in her face how sad, and disappointed she is in herself for letting things with her daughter get so bad. She finally understood how much damage she’d caused because of her drug addiction, and she definitely showed how much it affected her.
There is even more to just the creator of the comic writing it as a method to deal with his fiancé's death. After he was done blaming himself for her death he became good friends with BL during the filming of the movie. When he died mid-production, James spiraled into depression again as he blamed himself for Brandon's death.
Also, Michael Massee was a real human being with loved ones and emotions who is remembered mostly for being the person who pulled the trigger that shot the bullet that killed the son of Bruce Lee... both of them were much more than that and it is a shame to see how they ended.
Yeah Michael never got over what happened. He took break from acting because of it, although thankfully he got back into it and continued to do so until getting sick, including an awesome guest starring appearance on Supernatural. He also never saw the completed film.
Alex Proyas’ theatrical directorial debut. He had been a music video director prior to this movie. He did an amazing job.
I just have to say that the fact you guys do this as a couple makes me happy for you. It’s like, you’re both making your money together but also enjoying your time together, and that’s such a rarity. My wife grew up near Detroit, so she thought it happened everywhere, but most people watching this movie don't have a clue about Devil's Night, because apparently it's a unique Detroit phenomenon.
Basically people (mostly gangs) start a ton of fires all over the city the night before Halloween. Like homeowners would stay up that night trying to watch and prevent people from setting their houses on fire. It was really sick, and I don't think happens as much now as it did through the last few decades.
It actually wasn't so much the gangs, it was insurance scams (much like in the movie - James O'Barr and Alex Proyas knew Detroit well). Which means a bunch of landlords murdered their own tenants so they could cash in big fat insurance cheques. Lovely.
That guy that plays T bird acted his way through his own death scene absolutely brilliantly...and the music that went with it just accentuated the whole thing.

If you notice later Eric's hand is taped up. His cuts from the razor Darla got him with didn't heal. She wasn't part of his mission.
No 'Crow' after him looked ever so badass.
I love the dark sense of humor from Eric Draven as he's dishing out revenge of epic proportions. Reciting Edgar Allen Poe, hanging upside and bonking Gideon on the head, then when he's telling the Jesus Christ joke as he's approaching Funboy he's moving like a bird, and after he throws Skank thru the glass and escaping the police he does a mime clown dance. You can also see how it influenced Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight. Even Main boss Top Dollar with his phrase"You have put a smile on my face." Ledger's Joker says something similar. The supporting cast with Ernie Hudson (Winston in Ghostbusters) as Officer Albrecht, Tony Todd (CandyMan) as Grange, TBird and his gang, and victorian dressed villain with a southern accent Top Dollar (Michael Wincott) were highly original! Wincott also has a support role as Allen Rickman's cousin in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves which I recommend. Rickman (Severus Snape) kills it as the Sheriff of Nottingham he steals the show in that one!
Kudos for mentioning Ledger’s Joker. Brandon’s Crow ‘war paint’ was the first thing I thought of when I saw the movie stills before Dark Knight was released, and rewatching this film after seeing Dark Knight really underscored the similarities between the two widely different performances. I was living, and working in Chicago’s Loop while they were filming sequences for Dark Knight, btw and got to see the filming setup for some of the shots.🌌
Wincott (Top Dollar) was also in Three Musketeers with Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, Oliver Platt, and Chris O'Donnell.
IF you guys can, James o Barr released a revised version of the comic with an extra epilogue. it took him years to realize that the original source had a missing thing. The Crow is not just about love and revenge, is about forgiveness. Not to the people who killed Eric and Shelly, but for eric to forgive himself since he blamed himself over the death of shelly
I have that edition. It's amazing; the scenes he added are so perfect for the story.

@@abrahamhernandez1913 the comic? It's different than the movie. It has some of the same story beats but for example, top dollar and the swordfight in the church never happen. His powers are slightly different. Eric can only regenerate damage related to his quest for vengeance, so self harm doesn't really heals. And he is in constant pain
@@JoeKerr019 idk if you noticed but when Eric confronts Sarah's mom he actually gets cut and he doesn't heal that's why he has that black tape in his hand and part of his chest I guess.

This is one of the best superhero films ever made! Everything about this film is absolutely perfect in every possible way.
The tragedy of Brandon's death was so heartbreaking when I heard about it after watching this a number of years ago. This was his breakout role and the film that solidified his place in Hollywood even after his death. Rest in peace, Brandon.
His performance showed how wonderful an actor he was. I would have loved to see him in more.
Ah that is so true - we had of course heard about what had happened, but seeing how haunting and magical he was on screen just added salt to the wound. This would have catapulted him to an entirely different level, and we are all lesser for having lost such a talent!

i ould not call it his breakout role. he'd starred in several movies before this. It was the most commercially successful of his movies, a large part of which was sadly, due to curiousity about his death. people went to the movie and wanted to see it to see if they can spot the timing of when the replacements take over and what scene he died in. It is a great movie but without that factor at the time it would likely not have been as successful and only gained popularity as a cult film after it's release.

If you look close enough Eric did have bullet wounds, well the scars. And, the crow wasn't following him him, it was guiding him.
There's something about that moment when T-Bird realizes who Eric is, the somber note that's struck when you can see the genuine fear in his eyes as he says "there ain't no coming back" over and over again. Like he can't accept that this is really happening. I just LOVE that moment, Eric doesn't even need to say anything, he just continues to send that man to his death. It just always strikes a chord with me everytime I rewatch this movie
T-bird reflects on his actions in life as he realizes there is an afterlife and his judgment day is coming, that is what terrifies him in that moment

I met Crow creator James O'Barr at my local con. He had very little traffic oddly and he spoke to me for an hour. It was such a priviledge and was extremely open about the comics creation & film. He did a commission for me which I cherish, its peachy. If you ever get the chance to meet him.. do it!

I graduated high school in 1989 in Michigan, about 30 miles north of Detroit. I have a signed copy of the James O'Barr comicbook graphic novel, The Crow. Devils Night was a real thing back then. This movie, and this story, and those clubs and this music and those people feel like home. R.I.P. Brandon. Long Live The Crow.

It’s geographically nearly as big as Chicago and it’s the only the city in American history to lose 1 million people in population (from 1.8 million in the 70’s to 600,000ish present day), and has one of the most corrupt city politics in history. They’ve had plenty of time to do things with abandoned buildings and never have.
I live in Detroit, and they have refurbished many abandoned buildings. They've also tore down plenty and the citizens have burned many others. The city has many neighborhoods filled with blight. It will take a lot of time and money to bring it back to the condition that it looked back in 60s and 70s.@@chadd3299

James O'Barr, the creator of the comic, listed The Cure as one of the musicians he would listen to as he worked on the comic (another group he would listen to is Joy Division, whose song "Dead Souls" was covered by Nine Inch Nails, which is featured in this film). Robert Smith, the frontman for The Cure, became a fan of the comic and when he was approached by the production to provide a song for the soundtrack, he specifically written "Burn" for the film while he drew influence from the comic (the opening lyrics to the song, "Don't look, don't look" is a reference to the comic, as the Crow talks to Eric and said "don't look" to him during the event that lead to his and Shelly's death).
