Thanks for watching the video "Narrative Psychology: Change Your Story, Change Your Life | Screen Therapy"!
I wanted to make this video about our power as the authors of our lives. We understand our entire lives as a long-running "life story" - how we write our stories deeply affects our well-being and ability to take on adversity. So I laid out a few tips on how to rewrite our stories and learn more about how mindfully engaging with media can help us learn healthier ways to cope with struggle and celebrate our growth!
Thank you!

Really well done. Love this! One trick I’ve found helpful when I’m feeling the victim is to say, “The story I’m telling myself is....” Then I can make up a new story.
Thank you very much! I love that trick - I like to verbalize as well. Calling ourselves out and challenging ourselves to change the story is a great way to apply all these concepts in everyday life. :)
As a parent who has lost a child recently, I know I need to change my narrative. I can't change what's happened, as much as I wish I could, but I know I have to change the way I see myself, and the world, but when your child dies, it's so hard. Honestly, the hardest thing I can ever imagine going through. I'll get there...
Building a great future will require making changes to your life now. Whether having a great future to you means having a family, a high-paying job or getting into your dream school, it’s the things you do today will affect your tomorrow. You will have to plan and make deliberate changes in your life.>>
>< It really amaze me how i made it from living an average life to making huge profit everyday, all thanks to Sherman Williams Trading for helping me grow my account with the little i invested with him. I honestly don't know how he does it but he surely makes it happen.
Please is he on Instagram??
SURE!!!!
Thank you very much! I noticed that most of my writing is contaminated. I mostly write about the things I feel negatively but rarely on the victories / happy moments. So I've always felt like I'm a tragic character, trying so hard but never seeming to go anywhere.
We are all heroes much more than we think. ❤️
Write it as a new REDEMPTION Story🌺 Joseph : The HERO’s Journey🕯 Life Story Goals✨
I'm in a rough time. This was so inspiring and helpful, thanks a lot 🙏 ❤
I'm glad it could help!
it is indeed a very beautiful video.
I hope you embrace it and come out happier and stronger 💐🙌
Resonated so deeply on multiple points. ❤️LOVED the way you articulated.
This is the most important video!!!🔥
Yes! This is actually something I think about every single day now since the beginning of 2020. It's such a relevant topic right now. Great video as always!
Thank you!! I think this is super important for a year like 2020!
I recently went through a true “twilight zone” experience where a former narcissist made a final (post mortem) communication with me that verified just how sadistic she truly was. Your video was quite useful in inspiring me to learn and grow from the experience instead of going down the road of hateful resentment!
Thanks
It really is amazing how stories influence us, it's like they're a hardwired part of our brains concurrent with some evolutionary phase we went through looong ago. I've definitely had my interest piqued by a few writing masterclasses taught along these same lines. Stories can heal.
Nice to know that's I have been narrating my life with a redemptive story.
Thank you for a helpful video!
I needed this I'm bipolar and life has been difficult for me. Thank you 😊
Love Joseph Campbell. Thank you for this piece on story. We talk about story in Nursing as well. 👍
this was very inspiring!
This was touching and well done. Even made me tear up at one point, wish I could remember where.
we can start rewritting our past, the motivation for my humble video. very validating video.
Thank you, great content!!
Thank You for this content !!!
Thank you for watching!!
What a wonderful video; accurate and truthful.
So much useful stuff in such a short video...
Very well presented! Found it very helpful
The most Powerful words I AM! Whatever follows I Am you become! Your Subconscious is always listening Feeling what you think! 🙏🏼
Stories affect us whether we are conscious of it or not. Thank you this reminder.
JUST AWESOME VIDEO, THANK YOU SO MUCH SCREEN THERAPY
Explained beautifully
Great video
This video was 🔥
Loved the narrative of this video as well. Profound insights. Adding relevant examples to the concepts works wonders. Thanks for putting this together! :)
Congratulations. Short but really meaningful video. I had been doing this for years without knowing it or thinking about why I did it, and it truly helped me in my darkest hours.
Excellent job!
Wonderful video, Screen Therapy! I love how much you channel really is focused on well-being, and this topic is fascinating! In fact, I actually just read the Epic of Gilgamesh last weekend for a humanities course I'm taking, and I can totally see how narrative psychology can be seen in that story.
[SPOILERS FOR EPIC STORY]
I always found it inspiring how even though Gilgamesh technically failed to achieve the immortality he so desired, he gained something even more important from the struggles that pushed him to the absolute limits of his humanity: the realization that the reality of death is what allows one to truly appreciate the important things in life.
[END OF SPOILERS]
I find parallels in my life since many times I've struggled, I didn't get any sort of "reward" or closure; however, with retrospection, I found that all those times I've been learning many important lessons, like empathy, emotional intelligance, humility, and other such insights that enhance my life today. In a sense, I saw my own struggles in Gilgamesh-I even used to be similar to the Sumerian king in my narcissism and lack of empathy-and it inspires me how even back before written history, humans have been engaging in the same sort of struggles, even if the specific contexts may differ.
Anyhow, great video! I also see you've updated the thumbnails! They look very nice and professional! Thanks for continuing to post amazing, thought-provoking videos for us 💕
Hi! Thank you!! I always appreciate your in depth comments, it's great to know I can help spark another analysis 🙂 I agree it's very helpful to see our past struggles as opportunities for growth! And yes I agree it's very reassuring knowing people have always had the same struggles I've had- that's one reason I love history 😁
Thank you😇
This is a really great channel. Came across this just today and I already love it. You have a great understanding of psychology as well as the reality we are living in. Media is the greatest tool for making a change in consciousness, as were the old tales of heroes. Keep doing the Good work.
Quite right
Surely one of the more under watched great videos out there. I've watched many of these kinds of videos but this one is perfect. I can't wait to show my 10 year old niece and 13 year old nephew this video. I'm subbed now and looking forward to watching more of your videos 😊
Thank you very much!!
This is coming to me, Beautiful Man....remember when you asked me if we were going to be like we were....and I said yes...well...yes....I will not pursue neither one of us is comfortable with that...but the Lord said you would run to me and when HE said that I thought...this isn't just a one time occurrence...you will always know you can do that and expect to be welcomed.
Great video! Thanks for mentioning the sources! The term "narrative psychology" is pretty new to me but it seems to be something that i've always been interested in. Jordan Peterson brought me here. Any recommendations on introductory literature? I think I'll start with Sarbin.
Hi there! Thanks so much for commenting and sharing how you got here! I highly recommend the Routledge Handbook of Media Use and Well-Being as it covers a lot of the tangent topics covered in this essay. For philosophy, I will always recommend Marcus Aurelius' Meditations since Stoic philosophy intertwines with a lot of these themes. 😁
"So the Four Mighty Ones in man may be likened to the producer, the author, the director and the actor - the four most important members in the production of a play, and this is a play. The whole vast world is a play - this is a stage - but this actual movement and the actual drama is not taking place out there. It has been conceived, dramatized, rehearsed and completely enacted elsewhere. When you see it here it is as much a screen as when you see a picture on this screen later on today... Any change in the script must take place where it first originated, not here. This is only a screen, so as Blake said, “All that you behold, though it appears without, it is within, in your imagination, of which this world of mortality is but a shadow.”
~Neville Goddard, 'Four Mighty Ones' June 17 1956
.
I know this video is relatively old but omg I’m so glad I found this!!!!! I recently graduated w a BA in Psychology and was introduced to White and Epston’s work on Narrative Counselling and did an assignment on how interactive/role-playing video games are essentially a physical extension of the idea that you’re in charge of your actions/emotions/thoughts/decisions etc!(and how this can in-turn impact real life through wishful identification etc) Although unfortunately I’m not gamer- I AM curious about the potential of video games when it comes to free-will/ identity exploration etc etc. I also read some work by Bonnie Rueberg about queer representation in video games which was super interesting!
ANYWAY: so glad I found your channel while looking for inspiration to write a good personal statement for my master’s hahah.
Also: do you think the recent “main character syndrome” meme dovetails in here? (If you talk about this- my bad, couldn’t get through the video without first commenting about how this niche video has brought me immense joy!)
Hope you’re doing well! Cheers!

Thanks for commenting! If this is something you're interested in, I really recommend "An Introduction to Positive Media Psychology" to you- it's a great combination of many of these ideas in one place. Specifically, you might like reading about Self-Determination Theory in regards to media selection - that feeling of control over your own actions is accounted for in that theory as the feeling if "agency" which is an important psychological resources games help us replenish (many of my other videos focus on this theory).
As for "main character syndrome", I see it as a meme directed at how silly we feel about our younger years when we feel the world has a spotlight on us or that we're the main character of the world around us. We are all main characters in our own stories, yes, but after some growing and forming complex relationships with people who were once strangers to us we realize that are not THE main character of everyone else's lives, too. We see everyone else is living just as deep, profound, and complex lives as the main character of their own stories, too. A kind of "sonder".
Great discussion points. Glad you found the video, check out my channel for lots more theory and research around positive media psych. Good luck on your masters!
@@ScreenTherapy Hi! Thanks for such an in-depth reply! And yes I’ll definitely be checking out your other videos, to help form a more comprehensive idea about this topic(already checked your night in the woods video out! Loved it!) and thanks for the recommendation- I’ll look into it! :D Subbed!
Awesome! Welcome to the channel!

Beautiful, Concise and very helpful. Thank you
The whole humanity is in a rough momento, due to the Pandemic and Climate Change, besides our own personal struggles, maybe we should ask as a whole, how we can write a good story despite this tragedy?
I rewrote myself into the harry Potter now I have a scary on my head and I feel depressed.
Does reality also follow the algorithm defined by Josef Campbel? Are we all at different places in that diagram ?
This was great! Where can I find the gris video about contamination vs redemption?
Thank you! If you click into my channel and then go to Videos you'll find it on the list

If I change what you want me to say or do it wouldn't be my story it would be yours😲🙃🤠🐭
What kind of non logic are you talking? If you change your story then it is still your story. If you don't change Everything else around you I will change And where will you be then?

Isn't this the concept of super sigil in magick?
My Woke daughter accused me of having "unconscious" racist beliefs, and demanded I "fess up to it". But she could not answer how I can admit to something I am unaware of, and could not name even one racist belief I supposedly have. She ghosted me after that.
I'm sorry you had that experience..my husband's daughter did something very simple, has tried to go back to their past relationship..but with no apology for the deep hurt she caused..it's been difficult
You can make the unconscious conscious, and therefore overcome limiting beliefs. But you have to want to. If you are American, racism is deeply embedded in the American psyche. And it's holding us back from progressing to a more peaceful, prosperous, and powerful nation. It is our original sin and we are still deeply mired in it.
Si how do I write it?
Search for scripting, you wil get to know.
