I love the podcast and laugh so hard at my desk my co-workers worry about me. But watching it again with facial expressions makes me laugh all over again!
“Heavy pies” was maybe because bakers couldn’t afford flour and demand was high during Industrial Revolution so grain was often cut with alum and chalk and who knows what. I’m guessing? Super interesting!
haha! I looked it up, that’s all. As to why, it allows raising multiple roosters without them fighting since you can only have one intact rooster per flock, else they’ll kill each other (that part I knew), and it (trying not to gag as I write this part) apparently makes them fatter & better for eating.
Sometimes you just know that an episode is going to be horrific from the title and this is definitely one of those. Snipe and woodcock look pretty similar to be honest, although ironically the woodcock is the nocturnal one. You're right, they're both birds. The mince pies at Christmas thing in Britain is so weird, people get properly offended when you say you don't like them "try mine, they're different, you'll like these" I NEVER like them, stop guilt tripping me in to eating them (37:00 Oh God, Dave's covered this one as well!)! Wait, when did they stop being oblong?!? 27:25 Oh, then. I should have known Dave had anticipated the question. 49:30 A pienacea you might say ;-)
Reminds me of when I used to load catering carts on to regional flights here in Western Australia. Crew and passengers got shit food on those flights, I mean really shit food like pies and sausage rolls. On one flight the Captain munched into a sausage roll and inside was a cockroach. Whether he ate part of the cockroach I’m not sure but if that happened to me I would have ended up in a mental asylum.
First time watching instead of just listening. I love it soooo much. This is my favorite podcast, and I listen to quite a few (#nerdpride). I started from episode 1, so all the dates you mention have passed but I can't wait to see you live. I'm a little sad though that I'm almost caught up...
So I watched this around X-Mas because I'm a French-Canadian New Englander so I was curious as to which meat pie you were refering. Toutiere is like a Pastie except it's a full size pie, usually made w/pork.Then there's Mincemeat(not Mince, that's in the UK)Which is delish! The good stuff is made w/deer meat and all the rest. The cheaper meatless one is ok if you get the expensive stuff.Oh yeah, mincemeat pies here usually don't have meat in them.Don't know about the UK.They're great and I want one now.
I like this episode. However, the video component does not add much value. u guys should be more expressive in the video. Also , the cameras are not positioned correctly. We are missing all your expressions, because you guys are not facing the camera
Who's here in 2024? This is one of the best Dollops of all time.
13TH CENTURYYYYYYYY!
The bit at 25:00 made me cry laugh. You guys are amazing. This is one of my favorite episodes 😂
I was cracking up at work!

I like a turkey sandwich. I've never seen Dave so relatable. How refreshing.
We need a Johnny Appleseed Dollop
32:06 "Fuck you, Benny!" by a drunk 4 yr old. One of my favourite Dave moments.
Jesus Piest, lol. Love it.
I fucking love when these guys get into characters for a good ol historical reenactment.
My favorite historical reenactment. The battle for states rights to get absolutely fuckin smashed on some pie

If anyone’s curious, a capon is a neutered rooster
This episode sponsored by Mrs. Crocombe
🤢
How, why do you know that. What is the point of a neutered rooster.
haha! I looked it up, that’s all.

@@pearljammies So you googled it, you're not just a person with too much info. That makes me feel better.
Can I just say that the swap out for "America" with " Korea" in the subtitles isssssssssss awesome.
Dave I enjoy a good turkey sandwich as well, I support your decision to alert the rest of us to that fact wholeheartedly.

I can remember eating mince meat pie during the holidays, but that was 60 yrs ago. Haven’t seen one since.
20:10 The first rule about pie club, is you don't talk about pie club.
Gareth sounds like he should be in the peaky blinders! 😂
Show starts at 10:12
thanks josh

My God this is amazing
We eat mincemeat pie every Thanksgiving and I always wondered why was called mincemeat with no meat.
I had no idea abolishionists were against alcohol as well as slavery.
I gotta try me one of these pies. Sounds like a trip.
Might need ketchup.
NO god no! It's Sweet, don't do that. Toutiere is the meat pie you can put that on.
TIL: Snipes are real birds.
Max Ellis right?? I thought they were fictional created only for Pixar’s Up
Nobody going to talk about 22:06? Lol
Baked a mince pie while listening to this!
Please come to north Florida, or at least New Orleans!
The closest year to the year of Christ and Dave doesn’t mention it
Could you put an African swallow in your pie? Reference Monty Python
very good.
Those standing pies don't honestly sound that bad.
Pie-cariously - wonderful.
theres a subtle static thats annoying lol but love a meat pie =)
Yeah the audio could be better overall.
@@MP-de7cr the audio quality on the podcast version is always better mixed than the video one, not sure why.
Speaking of PIE, DO NOT download the software by that name. It will make ads worse, not better!
Hit the table harder, daddy. uwu
say that again
