Regina has a great effect on us... Firstly, she steals our heart and mind with her music and voice, then she enchants us with her kindness and sweet character, and in the end she makes us wanting to study Russian...
I'm glad I take Russian at school! Looking at the Russian lyrics is a nice way to study and pick out what words I already know. My teacher said if we practice our Russian this summer, we get extra credit. Lol. I already had an A+, but with all the Russian music I listen to and the Russian conversations my sister and I have, I should be getting like an A+++.
I’ve worn my jacket far too long, It’s getting shabbier and frailer. And so I take it to a tailor To see if something can be done. I tell him, “Now it’s up to you To remedy the situation. The magic art of alteration Should make my life as good as new.” It was a joke - but he takes on The task with single-minded passion, Bringing my jacket up to fashion As best he can. The funny man. He trims and sews without a word, With such meticulous precision, As if upon a sacred mission To have my happiness restored. He thinks I’ll try the jacket on, And then - the clouds will part above me, And I’ll believe that you still love me… Well, think again. The funny man.
Wow! What a translation! Being a native speaker of Russian and more or less fluent in English, I am absolutely dazzled at how it conveys the meaning, rhyme and the general vibe of the original text. I know it’s been six years but if you see this comment, could you, by any chance, share the name of the translator with me? Would love to research more of their work! This is beautiful ❤️
I've always loved the sound of Russian. But honestly, I think Regina's voice is so pretty that she could sing in any language and it would sound just as beautiful.
My first acquaintance with Regina's works was because of this album and, without a doubt, I assumed that she is Russian. I was really surprised to know that she has lived in America for a long time and is known overseas better than in the countries of the former Soviet Union
This leaves me fucking speachless. I had a really bad day today, and this song hits all of the places. Some I know, some I can name, but many many I cant. Thank you AGAIN, Regina. Thank you. Fuck. There's this depth and sadness in her songs thay resonate so deeply I cannot express it with simple words...

I just found out that this song is by Regina Spektor. My mind is blown! I've been listening to this song in the car on CD practically all my life, and I never knew it was by her!
A strong and strange with a little familiar feeling. When i hear, it reminds me of the historic movies in Vietnam war. The movies about soldiers' love, about the youth in war, in indigent. And about the cold hearts of people in the peaceful time, until one day, they're startled to realise what have been forgotten, what they've left behind to looking for the happy life in the narrow world full of envy. Some people get stuck in the unresting wheels which they've been blindly led to.
Don't worry. I don't plan on it! ;) The college I want to go to in the fall offers Russian, so I want to continue taking it. They don't have a major or minor though. :/

Hi I'm new to youtube (account wise). i noticed you offered to teach someone russian. i tried to teach myself once and i failed miserably :( lol I'd love to learn and wondered if youd help. its ok if you cant though :)

kinda russian conspiracy :D
You got the order right.
So happy I randomly decided to learn Russian years ago. I wish this song were longer...

Wow! What a great translation! Obviously, not word-for-word, but so close to the original meaning. Fantastic job! Thank you!
It's amazing

👌🏽
Some say French is the most beautiful language. I say otherwise.
I've always loved the sound of Russian.
But honestly, I think Regina's voice is so pretty that she could sing in any language and it would sound just as beautiful.
It is a language of her soul...
And breath of her impressions

This is a gloomy yet lovely song. :) I wanna learn Russian!
I just found out that this song is by Regina Spektor. My mind is blown! I've been listening to this song in the car on CD practically all my life, and I never knew it was by her!
This is by Bulat Okudzhava, Soviet Russian poet and composer.
I’ve loved this song for years.
So beautiful.
gorgeous.
I love regina singing in russian, so powerful and no accent at all.
Eres un genio Regina, un maravilloso y encantador Genio MUSICAL !
Thank you.

+The Walrus
Yeah, sure! Haha. Surprisingly it's more common in my city than I thought. Just send me a message when you're ready(=
You are so cool!
Dont you know just easily turn your head back? See, and response the hands which're willing to heal you.
Don't make me cry even don't understanding a fucking word.
I feel you
The only bad thing about this song is that it's too short
Listening to her singing in Russian makes me cry :')
dont quit studying Russian :) I'm proud to speak it really :) pretty rich language!
Holy crap, you can teach people? *isn't hinting at aaaaall*
Im failng miserably by myself too:( BUT I REALLY WANNA LEARNNN!!!

chulu. chulu until you bleed your feelings out.. brutal..
MissProjectorinski98 is also trying to learn
Does anybody have the english translation for this? I wish I was brainy enough to understand Russian :/
well, it's not a matter of being brainy or not... it's a very different language and we don't speak it :))

I've been studying Russian for a year and I'm not brainy at all. It's more about time management and being motivated to learn. Anyone can do it!
+Aleena fitton How comes the words rhyme in English? just asking out of wonder
I wondered this myself, maybe she wrote it in English but sings it in Russian? She does a similar thing with Ne me quitte pas.
Hi I'm new to youtube (account wise). i noticed you offered to teach someone russian. i tried to teach myself once and i failed miserably :( lol I'd love to learn and wondered if youd help. its ok if you cant though :)
hey, teach me russian ;D ? soo gorgeous!

I could if you want, haha. (:
Awh this shouldn't be a bonus track lol
