So I started True Detective season 2, a little late to the game I know, I get close to the end of episode 1 and I hear this song, I pause the episode and get on youtube to look it up and here I am. Beautiful and haunting, love this song!
Season 1 was great, but Rust Cole was too philosophical for my liking. A philosophical drunk. "The car is a quiet reflection space". Lol.... Ray Velcoro in season 2 is a relatable drunk, whole life is in shambles. Only thing that keeps him going is his job, which he floats on the line of between legal/illegal. Lol. I prefer season 2 so far.
To me... The lyrics confiscated souls... the voice enveloped emotion... the electric guitar's notes picking captured the grains of sand in time... It's not the death... it's more about the survival... from within...
this statement is one of those things people pull out of their ass, and it comes off sounding smart, but when seen for its worth, it holds no real meaning or thought in it.
My Least Favorite Life This is my least favorite life The one where you fly and I don't A kiss holds a million deceits And a lifetime goes up in smoke This is my least favorite you Who floats far above earth and stone The nights that I twist on the rack Is the time that I feel most at home We're wandering in the shade And the rustle of fallen leaves A bird on the edge of a blade Lost now forever, my love, in a sweet memory The station pulls away from the train The blue pulls away from the sky The whisper of two broken wings Maybe they're yours, maybe they're mine This is my least favorite life The one where I am out of my mind The one where you are just out of reach The one where I stay and you fly I'm wandering in the shade And the rustle of fallen leaves A bird on the edge of the blade Lost now forever, my love, in a sweet memory
I went to her show 2 years ago. Found her because true detective, but stayed cause I loved her music! When I seen her I asked if she would sign my TD S2 Blu ray, she signed it with a heart at the end. She's such a great artist!
You need to get around more... there is so much music... past, present and to still to be made... for me that statement is "desperate and sad"... definitely not mysterious or haunting. Just sad... "ever"!? :/
Your reactions are righteous; the songwriter's whole intent is to express confusion, uncertainty, and doubt. Why me? Why did I lose, while others won? What did I do wrong?
Had it not been for her, the whole thing would have been unbearable. The first season was probably one of the best hbo has produced in years. The acting, writing, and jesus the directing is almost impeccable. The second felt really flat. Most of the time you're just forced to watch over the shoulder scenes.

Lost my daughter to heroin and this song kept me going, then Lera explained it as she understood it at Sinclair, about heroin addiction, wow! I knew it!!!!! It makes my wife and I cry whenever we hear it but we need it!
An amazing song in an exceptionally clean performance that fully ensnares the listener before even the first verse has finished. For years I hosted a songwriter night (guitar pull) in Nashville, and this song is the type of performance that would hush a crowd in a heartbeat and demand that jaded industry pros stop whatever they were doing and give it a total listen. That's how this grabbed me when I first heard it in True Detective. Bravo! 👏😎👍
This song is special. Her voice is captivating here.. somber yet melodic and sure of herself... Like she has finally figured out her darkness. Just a special vibe.
Perpetually stunned I still stumble across genius like this. This is where record stores going away killed music overall. Because no way this would go unnoticed back then.
We decided to watch TD2 one more time nine years ago as the 1st season eclipsed the 2nd but we remained that feeling... that the 2nd season in fact very very good. Yeah, now we're assured in it. But the main discovery was not this, it's Lera! As I didn't remember her amazing songs after the first watching!
I came here because the song was played in Three Pines, an OK series. I then discovered she was in TD so just finished watching S1-3, 4 not got good reviews on IMDB. I don't know how mnay times I have played this, so haunting!
Вспоминаю Леру в фильме..Пустой бар как пустая жизнь,и одинокая девушка на сцене как символ потерянности.Гитарный гранж.Все очень депрессивно,все очень красиво..Спасибо!
This is not my favorite part of the True Detective series, because it is so sad, but I can completely experience the situation and pain of the character played by Colin Farrell... and sometimes I feel the same way, although I am far from experiencing such a tragedy... this music captures the essence so much
This is my favorite Lera Lynn song; as she sings it, there is a beauty beyond mere sound. It sends echoes into my mind, and it makes me wonder how she could've possibly known what words to put together here to describe such tristesse. She and her writers did such a great job, but Lera's delivery was what I truly identify with.
I can so relate to this song it's eerie! My parents ping pong ball growing up, my husband decides now its a great time to leave me or say its over during sickness. I'm glad I found you Lera Lynn. This song is so appropriate to my life. Thank you.
For those guitarists trying to figure it out... it’s open Dm tuning (DADFAD). I’d never come across that before, very cool. DmMaj7 is the signature spooky sound she’s using, think last chord of the James Bond theme...
She is fascinating... Her voice was enough to make me fall in love with her, after seeing her face, I am speechless... I think I am going to worship her.
Lera's voice is amazing. Her guitar-playing is excellent. Her songwriting is impeccable. I know, "impeccable" makes her sound unreachable and remote. But I mean it to read: she is interested ONLY in the truth. She does not want catchy hooks, she does not want a universally-recognized catch-phrase. She wants her songs appreciated for what they are: raw, honest, heartfelt, brutal.
So Talented! Like Kate Bush, Pink Floyd or the Beatles, I can't stop listening to her music! I Even purchased one of her limited edition Vinyls of "On my Own" along with every CD she has made in a bundle and hope to find an online ticket I purchased to see her in concert in Athens in June near my Birthday. She has the voice of a thousand angels in sync and yet is so beautiful at the same time. Her eyes mesmerize along with her voice. I've been through a personal Hell the past two years along with 5 years of continuous depression so her songs help me make it through each day of painting or sketching. I put her music on through Spotify and everything is ok for a while. :)
Maybe this is her least favorite life, but it's definitely my most favorite song now. 😏 It's hauntingly melodic. Aside from the fact that I could totally identify with the lyrics. I've managed to experience so much drama & trauma in this one lifetime, & had to reinvent myself into a completely different person from the ground up from scratch so many times now, that it LITERALLY feels like I've got several lifetimes into this one.🙃 By my count, I'm on my fifth one so far and I'm 51 now, but it feels more like 81, cuz my aching soul is just SO... SO... TIRED now. 😵💫🥱
Lera Lynn your voice and songs are as beautiful as you are, your'e an inspiration your lyrics and music is haunting, truthful, meaningful, beautiful it's transcending a perfection of art and harmony. Thank you for your genius I love your songs!
This song hits me right in the soul the melodie her voice and the lyrics awesome like a soothing voice in the distance when youre looking for answers in the bottom of a bottle i hope they play this at my funeral someday
Oliver, go ahead and ask for it specifically. Between now and the day of your funeral (hopefully, long in the future), please enjoy this beautiful song and the inspiration it provides. God bless!
Fell in love with this a long time ago, forgot about it and her. An ad for some videogame came on today with her singing a song for it (Endless Dumgeon the game) and looked her name and saw I was already subscribed. Didn’t have a clue as to why, till I saw this video. I didn’t know it was possible to fall in love twice but here I am, as starstruck as the night sky.
The eternal paradox. I say, "this is valuable; this is relevant." 90% of my fellow citizens say, " it's depressing" (= too many big words), "it's subversive" (= points out that someone, somewhere, experienced a problem in the US of A, and God knows that has to be a lie).
Caught a live performance of this song on Later with Jools Holland and was immediately in love with the sadness of the music and the brilliantly poetic lyrics.
So I started True Detective season 2, a little late to the game I know, I get close to the end of episode 1 and I hear this song, I pause the episode and get on youtube to look it up and here I am. Beautiful and haunting, love this song!

I just rewatched it, just wanted a little more of this music with full of emotion
Its fucking mesmerising!! Pure class
To me, this song smells like rain falling on the grass and pine trees, tastes like dark whiskey, and feels like the woman I could never have.
Wow you write so eloquently.

Some songs grow on you after a while. This is one of those songs that you hear the first time and say WOW.
Pain is inexhaustible. It’s only people that get exhausted.
Just like love eh?
true
Pain is nothing but an illusion.. a man thinks he's hurt, bcz he wants to, so he feels. There's no happiness or pain otherwise..
thumbs down…not because it isn’t true…because it is true.

This song is so unbelievably dark, and yet relatable if you've ever had a rough go of things.
Beautifully performed and written.
It's beautiful but at the same time makes me want to throw up it's so relatable 👍

My Least Favorite Life
This is my least favorite life
The one where you fly and I don't
A kiss holds a million deceits
And a lifetime goes up in smoke
This is my least favorite you
Who floats far above earth and stone
The nights that I twist on the rack
Is the time that I feel most at home
We're wandering in the shade
And the rustle of fallen leaves
A bird on the edge of a blade
Lost now forever, my love, in a sweet memory
The station pulls away from the train
The blue pulls away from the sky
The whisper of two broken wings
Maybe they're yours, maybe they're mine

The most beautiful song ever written. Hauntingly desperate, mysteriously sad.
