The time of year when leaves are a pain in the hiney.

Wouldn't there be less clogging without the metal fences?

Unfortunately no, the beaver will dam the inside of the pipe where you can't get to it without the grate.

So you moved the leaves 3 feet to the side. The wind is just going to blow them right back. you'd be better off tossing handfuls of them into the pipe when it's flowing and just clear the area of them.

Cleaning these is never a one and done expectation. You have to maintain them constantly and they will get debris in them as long as there is water to drain. Whether it blows from the wind or what's already in the water, it will need to be done again sooner or later. Thanks for watching!

There's got to be a better way to do this... that's the biggest pain in the butt.

The best way would be a larger gated pipe. Open the gate in the morning to let water drain, close the gate just before sunset. That's assuming you will always have beavers, which we likely always will, at least for periods of time. They only get clogged with leaves and sticks because we have to have the grate on there to keep the beaver out of the pipe.
