- In this video I talk about the 200 gr Terminal Ascent in 30 Caliber. I talk about the strength and weakness of this bullet and my plans for it in the coming month. Hope you enjoy the video!
For my hunting skill which is 450 yard max shot,I still love the nosler partition
Barnes TTSX. Totally amazing accuracy.
All I use is the Barnes TTSX bullets and they kill deer plus they are super accurate.
I shoot the factory terminal ascent in 7mm rem mag because of how hard the bullets are to get. The 155 is a tac driver and has proven to be very good. Stay safe, and God bless
Absolutely Accubond!
I do love Accubonds
Certainly among the best.
Barnes TTSX
Man, we live in the golden era of bullets. So many great options.
ELDM/ELDX are my pick for most hunting, but for smaller wound channels, the Hornady CX, Norma BondStrike, and AccuBond are all amazing options. Especially for more conventional range hunting.
Thanks for watching
The Federal TBT was always a favorite of mine. Federal is NOT interested in supplying the reloading public. They make way more money selling ammo.
Yeah...
For the hunter I will admit that many bonded bullets have attributes that make them great. The overall strength of the Accubond is based on performance, accuracy, availability and accuracy both with a conventional and long range option. Thanks RW for a great channel
Love the Terminal Ascent and the Trophy Bonded bullet Federal makes!

The experienced hunter will have past hunting experiences to overcome all needed to take down the animals wanted with the bullets being used.
Say with one of 2 rifles I own that I chambered in 300 Wby mag I normally shoot 180 grain Barns LRX but long ago in Anchorage Alaska where I lived the K mart had boxes of Norma brand 300 Wby with 180 grain Vulcan bullets with price was marked wrong at $5.00 a box so I bought all 8 boxes.
I have used 5 of these cartridges & bullets to take down Yukon bull moose, did the moose know any difference shot by these bullets or the Barns bullets? sure NOT!
I eventually pulled the 180 gr Vulcan bullets and then replaced them with Barns 180grain LRX because the meat loss caused by the 180 grain Vulcan bullet was horrendous!
The mullet of bullets: bonded in the front copper in the back.
Haha
In Michigan we have, almost unlimited opportunities for doe harvest, almost everyone knows a farmer or farmers with crop damage “block” permits. Since 1996 I’ve hunted in the western US almost every year except for maybe three years? One of those years I harvested a moose in Canada. I’ve had the opportunity to experiment with a variety of hunting bullets, 20+ years ago, when bonded core bullets became popular I tried the Nosler Acubond and Swift Scirocco Bonded, I felt the results were awful! Those bullets, especially the Accubond have good reviews? They didn’t seem to want to expand on Whitetail, Mule Deer and Antelope? The Hornady Interbond seemed to expand better? It seems they were using a softer alloy? Now that was 20+ years ago, perhaps the metallurgy has changed since then? Because of how bad my experience was, I will not use a bonded core bullet to this day. My favorite go to bullet over the past 25 years has been the Barnes X (and all the variants including the LRX most recently) I’m sold on Barnes solid copper bullets, I look forward to trying the hammer bullets as well, from point blank range all the way up and over 700 yards, from .243 caliber all the way up to Weatherby 30-378, I actually don’t mind the Hornady ELDX? That’s what I harvested my moose with in Canada? I don’t have any experience with any caliber or any bullet on elk? That could potentially be the difference of opinion we might be seeing? It is somewhat mind blowing how people can have vastly different experiences, maybe the newer bonded core bullets are better than they used to be for lighter game? I’ve never had a bad experience with a Barnes X TTSX LRX etc. bullet.
Every bullet has failed. I also think Hunters might have different expectations than what the bullet was designed to do. I shot an elk last year at 50 yards away with a 200 gr Accubond. The Elk was DRT with one shot. The Accubond appeared to have "penciled" through the animal. The exit wound seemed about the same size as the entrance. My biggest regret was not examining what the Accubond did on the inside of the elk. I was in a rush to get off the mountain.
Your comment is "questionable"?
Very informative video. I will probably pass on the Terminal Ascent for now. Bullet prices just keep getting more crazy and I just don't want to play that game any more. I might get laughed at, but I actually ordered some Speer Grand Slam projectiles for my 300 Win mag. I realize the BC is not good and not as accurate as the latest and greatest, but the price is right and it will do the job on elk on the distances that I hunt at. I still have some Accubonds that I am using, but when I run out of those I will likely give the Speer a try.
Speer makes very underrated bullets at a fraction of the cost.
I use the GS, 180s in my 300WM and it loves them, with the 1 in 9 twist it shoots the 200 plus grain bullets just as well. I have used Grand Slams for over 40 years and never had any problem in downing game from White tails to Moose. They do the job.
Ive had good results and great accuracy with Speer in my 300wm
If you like this type of bullet construction, look at the Rhino solid shank. Theyve been making them since the 90s and they are available in the US
Getting ready to try them in my 270 win behind h4831
Nosler Partition for me.
I was skeptical of this bullet until I used it in NZ on Red Stag and Ram..355yd Red Stagg is broke both shoulders and tore front of heart off, stagg didn't go 20ft. Ram at 300yd it dropped in its tracks..I will be using these again on W TX Audad in a few months using the same 200grn 300 Weatherby Mag..so I'm excited to see your loads
Fantastic bullet!
My favorite bullet and certainly one of the best ever made. The cost though is the big downside and I hope is why federal is working on the fusion tipped bullet which hopefully will become available to reloaders at an affordable cost.
Actually this bullet has its roots from THE TBBC and TBBC tipped version. This is not the AFrame bullets at all. TBBC use to be one of my favorites early on in my hunting journey. As tuff as it gets. Modern times called for more sleek designs with higher BC's. But again this bullet has it roots from the king of its time the TBBC.
I JUST WISH IT WAS AVAILABLE TO US RELOADERS.
good job on the video
Thanks
The topic of Sectional Density does not nearly get enough attention. Too many Podcasts and RUclips videos dance at the fire of Ballistic Coefficient.
However when you hunt, it is the SD that gives drives deep penetration through hide, bone and muscle.
Sectional Density matters when using cup and core bullets.
BTW the 175gr one is in stock on federals store right now
Yes it is
Ha !
Been reloading since '93 and didn't even know Federal had a store.
Talk about saving advertising dollars...
Thanks. ☆
Have used many bullets in my hunting days. The partitions are just a good all around bullet in short to medium distances. Accubonds are one of my favorite for accuracy and reliability. Fail safes were awesome hammers but the moly bore coating does foul barrels. Triple shocks worked but have had some pedals break causing unwanted damage to game. Interbonds and Corelokts are like grenades up close so be careful of velocity and distance. Just starting to dabble in Eldx bullets.
ELD-X will blow up on any close shot
Big fan of the terminal ascent! Accubond LR and Barnes LRX or ttsx are also very good
Bullets with a forward lead half and a rear copper half usually don't print as well as a conventional design. The Accubond is modern version of Jack Carter's Trophy Bonded bullet. The JC Trophy Bonded bullets print sub 1/2 MOA out of my Remington 700 in 300 Win Mag. I've taken 2 Elk with one shot each with these bullets. I recovered one bullet with 100% weight retention. My rifle shoots a 0.3" group at 100 yards with Nosler BT. I shot factory Federal Trophy Bonded ammo, and it was inaccurate. I pulled the bullets from the remaining cases, an put them in my handloaded shells. They were still inaccurate. Nosler Partition bullets print 1 1/2 MOA, because of the dumbbell shaped moment of inertia, but they are still the gold standard for plains game. I anticipate you will find the Federal Terminal Ascent less accurate than the Accubond.
Should be an interesting outcome both for the 300wby and 300prc with this one. I’ve seen a handful of rifles shoot these in respective terms from factory ammo. Several did not like them and several did- nothing new with factory ammo. Friends used to use the TBBC from federal years ago and I’m sure on game these will do just as good if not a little better. If they don’t group well (at least an inch) then you’re better off just using what you do know works. Overall, their price is grotesque so I’ll stick with my Nosler bullets.
Finally a video based on facts rather than hype from the hornady eldx fan base. Accubond all the way.
Thanks for watching
I prefer their Fusion bullets for what you get for the money. Fusions and Accubonds are what I load in most of my long range rifles.
I understand
Highly compelling unobtainium. If I remember correctly the weight retention is quite a bit lower than with the AccuBond. If correct, wouldn’t the 210 grain AccuBond Long Range with a G1 BC of 0.661 be the more appropriate comparison?
The Terminal Ascent on average should have higher weight retention than the Accubond. ABLR is a much softer bullet meant for long range.
@@ReloadingWeatherby interesting, must have mixed it up with another bullet. Thx
@@ReloadingWeatherby found it. I mixed it up with the Federal Fusion Tipped
Its a modern trophy bonded bear claw, my only complaint with the terminal accent, or tipped trophy bonded, edge tlr, is if you push them hard enough, the front end does blow off, they still penetrate more than plenty though, never had that issue with the jack carter or speer versions of the bear claw, they do pop up on gunbroker occasionally and can be had for reasonable prices when they do
Thanks for your comment
I bought 3 boxes of those on the cheap, about 1/4 of the bullets measure undersize at .306. They would almost slip fit into cases sized with my usual neck bushing, I could spin a seated by hand and slip them in/out a bit. To use up the small dia bullets I ended up buying a 2 thou smaller bushing to get the right neck tension. Speeds and accuracy were pretty different between the 308 and 306 dia bullets.
Oh wow... that's not good
@@ReloadingWeatherby i think the guy I picked them up from had issues with the first box, he shot about 20 of them. Then sold them to be for a buck a bullet, so basically half price. The bullets that are 308 shoot very well, hopefully I can find an elk to see how they perform on game.
As a reloader, that is gold. 😂
Cost the same amount as gold too
Can’t wait for the upcoming videos
I'm excited to try these bullets out!
@@ReloadingWeatherby I honestly have no idea why but as soon as I saw these bullets I became infatuated with them there is something about them that had an aura that screams the best of the best no idea why
@@Chris-liwymiSame, I’ve heard them and a 7 prc are a special combo.
Like you said you can not get this for reloading. They made a one time run for reloaded when they first came out. And it was not called terminal accent it was called edge TLR. I got lucky and bought 5 boxes. And let me tell you they are awesome we load them for our 300 ultra Mag and it is a performer 200 grain @ 3160 fps and as you said when we run out we will need to buy factory terminal accent and pull them to reload
Keep an eye on American reloading they have them bullets sometimes they are pulled tho
Thanks for all your hard work for us however at 300 yds or less where 85 to 90% of Elk are shot the Sierra 180 Game king or Pro hunter bullet will expand and shoot all the way through an Elk at 2900 to 3300 fps muzzle velocity !
Thanks for watching
They do fine in my 270win. They were only $24 box because they were labeled in French.
Im really digging this bullet.
I hope it lives up to the hype
Terminal Ascent shoots the Lights out with my 7 Mag. Boom Plop.
Nice
My Tikka 30-06 love's the factory load
Sweet!
Cant wait to see
Does 4350 do well in 300WbyMag? Reloder 22 one of my favorite powders of all time. It's excellent. I have worked up loads in summer and hunted with it in winter and had minimal POI change to 400 yards.
I don't think it's the ideal powder for a heavier bullet like the 200 gr. It's a great powder for 130 gr to 150 gr
@@ReloadingWeatherby I just saw that Retumbo looks promising
@@Accuracy1stretumbo for heavy grain works wonderful in 300wby. I’ve ran the 210 Nosler Long range Accubonds and did very well out to 700 yards. Have fun!
PPPPlease load these up for my Seekins PH2 300 PRC
hmmm... maybe
I bet you love your seekins!!! They are the most accurate rifles I have ever shot, that was not a full custom. And they even out shoot most full custom rifles.
@@jamesdolgener7892 I do love the accuracy of my Seekins. I wish the stock looked better. Maybe Wox will make a wood/metal chassis for it soon.
Man, where did you find RL22. Been hunting for more for 4 years. lol
Got it from Powder Valley about 8 months ago. Was very expensive and haven't seen it since.
If I could get the dang bullet to shoot under an inch I would love it. None of my guns like it.
That's what I'm worried about...
Nice but I’ll stick with the Hammer bullets.
I found them at classic firearms yesterday expensive
What kind of reloading dies and sizing lube are you using the necks on those nice 300 weatherby cases just look horrid.
Redding
No Retumbo?? What’s up with that brass? Looks like it got run over lol
What about the Swift Scirocco bonded bullet? Seems that a lot of people overlook it and sleep on it nowadays
Right if you can make it shoot
@@jimhelminger3986 I'm glad they're not overhyped like the ELD bullets are. Hornady has their marketing down solid to sell average performing bullets
How has it done for you in the animals you shoot? First hand experience?
I haven't gotten an animal yet with the TA. Maybe this year?
Federal TA has one problem, you can never find them.
Any thoughts on Hornady A-Tips?
I prefer hunting bullets over match bullets for hunting
Ohh my shoulder hurts.
136 gn terminal accent behind 54 GN of h4831sc vol in the high 2700 1/2 inch group not sure how to post pictures
Nickel is extremely hard, not in my barrel i like my rifling
too wear slowly ,the sold base is to solid no compression.
hmm... thanks for sharing
Wow, someone found a hen's tooth!
What about hammer bullets??
I like Hammer bullets
Nosler Partitions
They cost too damn much i will stick with my tried and proven ttsx and lrx
Great bullet but too long, (not enough sectional density) for slow twist rifles like older Weatherby.
Sectional Density matters more for cup and core bullets.
@@ReloadingWeatherby Ummm, it matters for all bullets.
It's a length/weight formula.
@@ReloadingWeatherby Or rather
Length/weight/diameter
How does the BC compare to the accubond long range?
190 gr ABLR has a G1 B.C. of .597 and the 210 gr ABLR has a G1 B.C. of .661
A good tack driver but I have had trouble with expansion ! Not so great for an ethical kill ! I have gone back to accubond !!
Thanks for sharing
You need to get some ramshot mag and grand prowder
I'm not a huge fan of ball powder
@ReloadingWeatherby it's not a ball powder and they are every temperature stable
It is a ball powder
With that being said I like them a lot
It's a double-based spherical propellant
So many nosler fan boys out there
You ever tried them? Maybe there's a reason for them liking them.
@@robertmajors1737 maybe im just jaded that nosler bullets are usually three times the price at the store
What bullets do you like?
@@PikeSlayer69probably a reason.
Or 2 actually.
Supply and demand
My Browning 300 win mag 3 shot average is 2945fps with 200 gr TA factory load
That's awesome!
The splits on that nose and the ring around the shank looks like their quality control is low!!!
These were pulled bullets... The split on the nose is weird
Definitely not a plinking round.
Nope
Why would you even waist your time, you’ll never be able to get more bullets! Federal has a history of letting reloaders down when it comes to bullets. In fact my supplier has given up on them.
I'll have plenty of bullets for actual hunting
@@ReloadingWeatherbygood for you, but what value does this bring to those watching?
ELD X suck once they hit the target.
I'm not a fan of the ELD-X
Based on what experiences? Have you lost animals or had bullets fail to penetrate? Always curious to hear since they’ve been so good to me, so many times now. Giant wound channels at all impact ranges, exit holes, and very easy to load. That’s what I’m after.
Explain what you mean by suck? Too little or too much expansion?
Never really liked the eld-x either, that's why I went to the eld-m and never looked back. Two elk , 3 mule deer and several whitetail and hogs. All one shot, oh and an antelope.
@@jamesdolgener7892 this is the way! Haha. I’ve had good luck with ELDX, but I think I’m just missing out on a little extra BC is about the only difference.
😂 No "Core/Jacket" Seperation? Better Than The Swift A-Frame? Perfect? While All Bullets Can Eventually Fail, I Gave My Hunting Buddy Some 30-06 175 Grain Terminal Acents To Try! He Shot a Deer at 75 Yards and The Bullet Blew Up (Leaving a Hole In The Chest The Size of My Fist, But Never Exiting)! Had That Been An Elk, He Wouldn't Likely Have Gotten It! Since I Won't Be Shooting Past 400 yards, Give Me The Swift A-Frame's Instead! 🤷♂️
Going to need to see pictures of that Terminal ascent failing
@ReloadingWeatherby I Wouldn't Lie To You Austin! I Was With Him and Field Dressed The Animal and Helped Pack It Out! The Shot Angle Was Such That It Went Into The Guts and I Didn't Bother Looking For It! However, I Think Your Friend (Alaskan Ballistics) Hit The Table With a 130 grain 6.5 TA and The Shank Seperated From The Mushroom, Where It is Welded Together! I Have See It Happen Before, When People Were Testing These Bullets! But, "Typically", They Have Great Penetration! 🤷♂️
Wow you just proved you have no clue what you are talking about this is a monalific base with a morececular bonded tip lead core. This is basically a swift a frame on steroids I shoot this bullet it penetrates deeper than anything I have shot. Separation is not going to happen on this bullet unless u shooting steel or concrete. You just telling lies at this point or ur buddy is lieing
Once I actually found 180gr terminal ascent. $60 for 50 bullets in 308. I'll pass
There is one more draw back to this bullet . It will not group worth any thing if shot out of a rifle that does not have a 1:10 inch twist. And that means all of you short 24 inch barreled rifles are out
RL 22 is awful. Worst hunting powder out there.
Because it's not temp stable? I get my best and most consistent groups with this powder.
@@ReloadingWeatherby yeah until the temp changes and everything goes to shit in hunting season
@@Dave-cf2ng You really think I only test this powder in one season? I developed these loads in colder weather. If anything the loads will perform at it's best during hunting season.
@@ReloadingWeatherby RL22 and H4831sc are very close in burn rates. I would use H4831sc any day of the week over rl22. RL23 seems to be a lot more stable in the temp swings, RL26 has issues when you get about 85 degrees. Never used 25.
I respectfully disagree. Re22 has been a go-to for me since I began loading. Love it. Excellent outcomes, no issues, accuracy top tier. I'm using it in my 300WSM-long with excellent results.
I feel the Federal Termial Ascent IS NOT the "ultimate" hunting bullet - it has ALL the disadvantages of BOTH a Lead Bullet and copper bullet-
1) Lead nose- Toxic particles in Meat. Not legal in lead free zines
2)Lead nose /&Copper shank VERY POOR SUPERSONIC WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION within the bullet
3)Copper Shank- High Breech Pressures compared to Lead Core bullets.
4) Ballistic Coefficients overstated by 10%
5) Not very accurate in most rifles.
1. I'm never going to hunt in California... lol
2. Not going to argue on this one
3. There are pressure groves on the bullet
4. I'm sure it is
5. That has been my experience with it in Factory ammo... we will see how it does when it's handloaded.
@ReloadingWeatherby
Interesting.
I have found Factory loaded terminal assent to be the most accurate commercially available round in three different rifles, different calibers. 6.5CM, .308, and 300 WinMag
@@ccfdmd Good to hear!
I've seen in several tests that the weight retention is extremely close if not 100% on these bullets. So the lead contamination is probably minimal. I shoot coppers, but if I were going to use lead it would probably be this one.
For my hunting skill which is 450 yard max shot,I still love the nosler partition
Partition is still a great option
