Story #3 - Not much to be done with MC, really, except to continue to hold him accountable for his actions and try to keep communications going. If he decides to leave, that's unfortunate but entirely his choice. if he starts acting out or something, time for another talk and possible booting.

These videos always make me really appreciate my groups (I'm in two different games right now).
For example, in one of my games, I'm playing as an elven nephilim monk with the champion archetype (we're playing Pathfinder 2e). It was recently revealed that his mother is a minor deity whose domain is that of dreams while his father is Asmodeus. There's a whole story involving an infernal contract with a get out clause requiring all of her children to reject their infernal heritage. Anyway, his mother can and does visit him in his dreams but it never impacts how well rested he is.
Meanwhile, one of the other players is a trans lesbian, irl. Our GM had one to one conversations with all of us before we started to find out what we wanted for our characters and she told him that her character (a divine sorcerer) is a lesbian too. I think it was the second session when we encountered a bard and her brother who wanted to tag along with us. The bard is perfect for our sorcerer and the two have really hit it off. She has also become our go to NPC to bring with us when we go into dungeons.
There's no funny business going on, btw. None of us have ever met face to face and two of us (the sorcerer and myself) live in completely different countries from the others. The GM is just very considerate of how we want our characters' stories to go and how we want to play them.

It should build over time and slowly, giving the Players a little Clock so to speak. They have to find and stop the BBEG before they succumb to the Fatigue and die. When someone starts bitching about “metagaming” over simple gameplay mechanics, the bullshit detectors start going off. Talking to each other, helping other players, reminding them or giving them tips and pointers is a massive part of the social aspect of the game. If your table is not able to interact with, help, and support each other like functional human beings at the most basic level, there will be much larger problems.
By OP’s logic, character creation, rolling the dice in the first damn place, and using their own creativity would all be considered metagaming.

Permanent injuries in games are great when used properly. My current go-to system has an optional permanent injury table for when players reach -7 to -9 HP. The player has to roll a constitution save and it's stuff like losing some hearing, losing a finger, losing an eye, large scar, etc. Nothing that takes the PC out of the game but plays a roll in how they play from then on and it's a warning to be careful not to pick fights that are high risk. More so since death comes at -10 HP regardless of your level.

The thing I have to say about the first story is it really makes no sense for someone who's supposed to be your friend, and who knows you're gay to still try to hit on you in the tone deaf assumption you'd want to be with them. Like... no. And it's like he fantasised about it and put it into his game where he had some control, because he knew you'd say no, and still asks anyway. I get being really into someone who isn't interested back, but when they tell you no, learn to accept it. And don't try to override their agency in a game because you can't do it in real life.

  • @AlinNightwing

many moons ago I had a player who said they felt like I was picking on them and targeting them. When he laid out the grievances, at first glance yes it very much looks like I was dumping on him, but them I reminded him of all the things I was doing to attempt to save his ass.
One such instance, party is going down a very narrow spiral staircase of stone, underground so dimly lit, smooth stone steps covered in damp moss. I describe very slippery condition and making EVERYONE roll balance checks to safely traverse the stairs, he rolls a nat 1 so starts to stumble. I let every single person roll to try to catch him, sadly every roll failed because they were trying to steady themselves. I let him roll again to try to stop his tumbling down the stairs, he rolls a 2, make him roll a fortitude, rolls a 1... so calculating the fall damage of going down 40-50' of stone stairs in a tumble, he broke his neck. He was upset then I remembered, the wizard had gone down the stairs first and was already at the bottom, so I rewind and tell the wizard "you hear him falling do you try to catch him", player (and it was all well done) who is playing the 16 year old half-elf wizard, turns to see this 6'5" 200lb half-orc tumbling down the stairs, says hell no and jumps out of the way, fails the reflex save, half-orc lands on the wizard, both take damage, both live.
Another instance, party gets an airship, I didn't want an airship but I played along because I had a way to deal with it that was very much in line with the game. They are traveling, and the artificer lets the alchemist (same player as the half-orc but different character) use her lab on the air ship to make things. Airship comes under attack, 3 of the 4 engines blown to hell and is crashing... artificer LOCKS THE ALCHEMST INTO THE POTIONS LAB, airship crashes, goes up in flames, all those potions and vials go off, character is vaporized. He was mad at me that *I* killed the character I'm like no... no I didn't do anything of the kind, I attacked the airship, not you.
I love rewarding creativity, and I've been accused of favoritism and targeting and tell them... it looks like favoritism because they talk to me and you don't, they ask if a feat/spell/magic item is viable or available and we discuss how it could be a thing... you don't talk to me all week until next session. I have no issue throwing magical gear and potions and all kinds of neat things I just want it run by me on how it's viable and maybe I can make it a side quest that pops up that makes the party go yeah sure let's detour over here. But if you are the one that jumps in front of a mob of already action readied enemies and get pummeled, don't yell at me when I said "are you SURE?!" then expect super gear when I don't hear from you

It's a fun game, but can be extraordinarily punishing if you slip up (Your party members can get their limbs severed by certain traps and attacks). That being said, definitely not a fun concept for DnD unless all the players are cool with prior to starting and even then, I think having more ways than one ridiculously costly way to restore permanent damage should be available to the players as well. Not to mention, permanent injuries CAN add an excellent role playing opportunity of recounting particular battles. In the campaign I'm currently running, a rogue spy master proudly bears the scars from a fireball that nearly killed her, while the paladin and rather often use their own scars to demonstrate their survivability when NPCs tell them that they are going into dangerous areas.

I'm honestly annoyed with the OP for the first story, though not as much as I am at the DM. Not wanting to hurt someone's feelings leads to her ghosting the entire friend group - that's worse than hurting wizard and rogue's feelings. At least if she told the truth she could figure out who her real friends in that group are.

At first i was like well the barbarian saying that they'll just let the party die just because they didn’t want to get married sounds like a huge out of character thing to do. Like imagine, you are there, in the fantasy world, your friends lives are on the line, all three of them, and you just say "nah, i rather not marry so ill let them die". Bro no good person would let that happen.
But then dm was like "go out with me", so now im like lol what a poor way to play that hand.

Yes they would. Choosing between marrying against your will to someone you don't like and death? Plenty of people throughout history chose death.

@@anthonyseverino8292 I think by that point, Barbarian was too checked out of the game as it was just DM forcing a heterosexual relationship on a lesbian. Only cleric cared enough to sacrifice her for himself while the rest stopped caring. And the party was already murdered by that point, Barbarian just didn't practically sell herself to slavery to a Master saying he'd revive them.

Somethings telling me that IF op agreed to the wedding to save the other players there would be a "making fantasy jesus" scene in details after that and an entire pregnancy arc. Imagine being speared from death only to watch your female party member getting railed by a god and watch the half god baby grow inside of her (Also some other bs dm would probably do and even MORE attention to god wifey)

A true gigachad would (1) not try to convert a lesbian, (2) respect her and her sexuality, and (3) be wise enough, and confident enough in himself and his own self worth, to not try romantically pursuing someone whom he knows is unattainable.

I'm reminded of Love After World Domination(TLDR: Romeo and Juliet mixed with Power Rangers) where Gelato Red learns that the girl trying to blackmail him into breaking up with his girlfriend is in love with said girlfriend herself and he's so devoted to his love that he told the blackmailer that she has great taste in women.
