What type of license do you need to have??
@@QualifiedMusic33 you should be registered with the USDA as a class T carrier (sometimes class h). And eventually a business license with your state.
I just found your channel! Love it!! I have been a professional pet sitter for 10 years and started offering long distance pet transportation a couple of years ago and love it! Getting paid to travel with dogs is a dream come true.
I used pet transportation, and my very picky DIVA pittbull ENJOYED the personal professional care when transported across the country 2700 miles. Every day I received pictures of my dog and she seemed happy because she doesn't like everybody. I probably will use the nanny service for my next transportation but this time on the airplane. I tell everyone about this and now I am planning on transporting my other pittbull soon. ❤

The thing is; if someone started with a normal sized car, would that be acceptable? Like are customers expecting a cargo van that's decked out and it would be awkward/look dingy if you start off with just a normal car? If you bought a bigger car, yet still a car so you could fit 4ish dogs and not waste space and gas mileage like with a van, idk if that becomes more appealing/acceptable.

The problem is that there are now so many Pet transporters bidding with Citizen Shipper that its almost impossible to get any jobs. There are shippers undercutting everyone else by offering super cheap deals and unfortunately this does not leave room for other pet transporters.
Totally understand how you feel. However, the lowest bidder does not always win. Sometimes it just takes asking the right questions, being in the right place at the right time, and connecting with the customer on a personal level. Trust is the key! Competition will always exist. Someone will always be able to do the job “cheaper”. You have to create value and chart your own course.
When you registered with usda did you do carrier or intermediate handler? I feel like this part is so simple but it has me stuck lol

We started pet and housesitting a few months ago, and now I realize as well how much this adds to our nomadic lifestyle in a way that fills a whole since we sold everything we own, and no longer have pets. we would love to help out as we travel all over the globe. This is definitely a fulfilling way to travel. We don’t hire strangers but you are welcome to join my Patreon group so you can get an idea of the basic requirements and legal liabilities. Once you get set up as your own entity we would be happy to see if it is a good match.

Amanda, where did you get your insurance? Did your auto company make you get commercial insurance? Did you get cargo or general liability or BOTH? I have been trying to get insurance for a month and finally got a quote of 4800.00 for a year!
Holly, it is true! Being fully insured in this business is not cheap. It is a big investment to commit to long-haul ground transportation. $5k/year is actually a very good price. Each person/business will have to explore the options in their state to find the best fit.
Could you adopted out homeless dogs from Albania? I live in Oklahoma. I have always had a love for dogs and all animals. I have been looking into moving to Albania. I saw a post on one of the Albania Facebook groups I am on about how there is a large number of homeless dogs there and a person was thinking about starting a dog cafe there in Durres. When I messaged them, wanting to get involved, once I moved there, their reply was," You should be a flight buddy for dogs." Honestly, I had never heard of this before? So, I went to youtube and saw one of your videos (: I saw 8 puppies that needed homes..they were precious! I am flying into Tirana, Albania in October. I may rent a place there long term at that time or fly back in 10 days and move there next year. My question is, can you or would you be interested in adopting homeless dogs from Albania? I am definitely open to it, but my personal experience is more with domestic pets.
Would a 4 door Ford F-150 be acceptable for transporting pets or would I absolutely need a minivan?
Not everyone uses a minivan! That is just what works for me and the type of service I offer. As long as the pets can be properly crated in the cab and you can maintain a sanitary environment, there is no harm in getting started with your truck.

I got a free month on citizen shipper but I am not seeing how I can make any money. I tried to get just one job and got under cut by crazy low bids that wouldn’t even cover gas. It was insane.

My wife and I are starting out in pet transport. Taking notes. The site you mention requires a DOT #. Is that typical?
You do not need a DOT # for pet transport but you might need one for other kinds of cargo. The site does not require this, they simply give you an option to list your number.
Who do you use for insurance.?
Try PETCARE, PCI for commercial pet and liability insurance. Depending on your business model you may also need commercial vehicle insurance.
When you’re traveling is it OK to have someone with you?
Of course! Many transport companies travel in pairs.

How many miles do you put in a year?
About 10,000 miles per month. This is a modest number because I split my time flying.I know many drivers who hit 15-18k miles a month.

How do you quote a trip?
Quotes are based on mileage or airfare, destination, number of pets, and any number of customizations. This is why I like to provide a custom quote for each person based on their specific family needs.
Hi can you tell me how much do you start of charging per mile per pet so you don’t under charge and be at a loss
@@Nefnkids every transporter will have different levels of expenses. So you have to find a price that covers all of your expenses and pays you a daily wage. Only you will know that answer. But if you are just getting started, start with a dollar per mile and see what your profit margin looks like. Then you can adjust to meet the market demands.
