@@KainKustomGarage I think you'll be surprised.. a few years ago I stumbled on to a utube video of a guy cleaning motorcycle plastic this way....I tried it on a Husqvarna 266 XP I was restoring the plastic looked good as new with this cleaning method. Good luck...Shoe
Nice job. I bought a $15 plastic welder from HarborFreight that works awesome for plastic cracks. I’ve fixed all kinds of stuff with it. For the more flexible plastics I use all different colored zip ties as my filler media to kind of match whatever I’m working on.
They do - the Husky stuff is about $40/12 oz can. I picked up some other Husky orange from another brand off Amazon for less than half the price, as well. I’m using the sand and clear coat method for plastic parts, and seeing how the paint will work for the metal parts on the older series saws (recoil & clutch covers, cases, etc).
I use JB Weld, the dark grey stuff, to fix plastic on stuff. I just got through using it on a MAC PM 610 that I have restored. It sands well and fixes, even small missing pieces. I have never tried the plastic putty. I basically get what Walmart has.
If you can incorporate a drill or power toll for some steps it saves a lot of time restoring plastic. I've done plastic headlights with a cloth wheel on a drill and various abrasive compounds.
Oh man I'm putting out a plastic repair video soon too lol instead of the paste stuff there is a 2 part epoxy that works really well and less time to setup. Lookin good👍
I wet sanded a shroud for my 026 with 400 wet or dry and then with 600 wet or dry. I then sprayed it with clear coat Avril lid. It did a pretty good job but I just replaced the shroud with a new ms 260 engine cover.I probably could have repainted it but new plastic is cheap.
@@KainKustomGarage thanks Dan. Your suggestion on U Pol stuff has made a world of difference. Sure, costs a bit more, but the results speak for themselves.
They sell the wiz you can put on the dremel. 320, 530, 800 grit works nicely with the compound. Plastic restoration takes time for sure. Nice work my brother from another. !!! ❤️🔥🦾☀️
@@KainKustomGarage aww man. Thanks for being you. I have never heard of the bulldog adhesive promoter I’m going to check it out. I been using the self etching primer on plastic. It holds up reasonably. Hope your Monday is great .!!🦾
@@KainKustomGarage you ever seen where the plastic gets dyed black in a pot on hot water... that might work provided you get close to the correct orange dye...
😅almost too good! I just picked up an old 44 I’d like to bring back just a bit. Hopefully the dawn soap n a cutting compound will be just enough to bring it around but not make all the other saws jealous 👍
Best way I have found to clean oxidation off Husqvarna plastic...ajax and 0000 steel wool....you will be amaze...Shoe
Thanks Shoe! I'll have to try that next time!👊👊

Great job buddy! Thanks for sharing! You are an inspiration! 👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks Simple Man! ❤❤
Nice work 👌 she will look like a new saw 😍
Thanks Mark!😊
I’ve found 50/50 mix of paint thinner and boiled linseed oil does a great job on restoring plastics
Interesting Steve, I'll have to try that!😊
Sounds like something I would like to try

It looks good. I was wondering if they make Husqvarna orange paint? I have used a heat gun on lawn mower engine covers and it works ok .
I know Kubota orange is very close to Husky orange. Very subtle difference.
Thanks Brian, yeah not sure probably for a price....lol...appreciate you man!😄

Use STIHL's orange paint! It will run better! 😁
@@richardfuerst5286 I don't own any Stihls.
Great info and repair! I almost spit out my drink when that Beaker clip played while you were torching the cover. Hilarious!
Ha ha! Thanks buddy! I try to keep it entertaining!😁

No prob buddy!

Thanks Jeffrey, yeah I should invest in some of that stuff, would make things go faster for sure!😁
I would opt for the paint as well. As bad as that plastic was oxidized, it would take forever to buff it out. That epoxy repair turned out great!
Thanks man! Yeah, She was pretty far gone....😊
Good job Dan. I kept hollowing scotch brite but I think it was to far gone.
Thanks Clint! Yeah that Oxidization was pretty bad, I bet it works good on slightly faded stuff though!😊
come up well good work
Thank you Sir!😉
that turned out really nice. great job man
Thanks Thad!😉
Glad you done this one. I got some items I’ve been wanting to do because of the discoloration on the plastic 👍
Thanks man! Hopefully it helps!😁
Well done !
Thanks Mike!😉
Nice job on the repair👍 great content and very useful!

Thanks Josh! ❤❤
That came out awesome 👌 Dan .....well done brother...
Thank you! I appreciate it buddy!😉
Great job Mr. Kain...I have been looking forward to this one, thank you sir!!!
Thanks Brian! She was a little to far gone to try and polish bur She painted up real nice!😉
How well does the paint hold up to gas and oil?
It does OK, the key is to let it dry like a week or so before using it, the longer the paint cures, the tougher it gets

Great video, you showed a lot of ways it can be done.I would like to try Hydro dipping some parts and see how that goes.
Thanks Mark, Yeah that Hydro dipping is sort of fun, we tried it on some of my kids Xbox controller covers and it actually looks pretty cool!😉

Looks slick ...i need to redo my leaf blower. The fiberglass on my arms gets annoying
Thanks man!😁
Great tips Dan, ended up lookin Factree😆 I believe a harder plastic works better with the heat method.
Thanks Doug! Yeah, I think it depends on the age and type of plastic...🤔
That turned out looking really good
Thanks man!😁
Kain-O: I’ve got 80% of my vintage 288xp down to metal. Assuming I clean with acetone or brake cleaner, sand, can I go to U Pol 8 primer? Dan

Use a soldering iron to melt the plastic cracks back together like a plastic welder
Ooh, I'll have to try that! Thanks Brian! 😊
I had a cracked plastic on one of mine I used super glue and baking soda it works perfectly and you can sand it
Nice! Never heard of that one😁

So I have an old stihl chainsaw and the color went from white to yellow how do I get the white back
