Tom Verlaine’s death is hard to take in. He was simply one of the best guitarist, if not the best, that I’ve ever heard. Uniquely creative in his playing and in his inspirational songwriting, were sensitivity, intelligence and dry humour mixed seamlessly, he left us an awesome body of work, including this masterpiece of a song that The Scientist Writes a Letter is. Marquee Moon, Venus, Friction, The Fire, Words From the Front, Kingdom Come, Always, Little Johnny Jewel, etc., etc., etc. The list is really, really long. He was impossible to categorize, which is the hallmark of a true artist that brakes new ground by just being himself, trusting his soul, his instincts, his unbridled imagination. It’s a sad thing to know that he is no longer with us.
The image of the turn of the century lab wizard freezing in a friend's house..no song was ever about it..and the guitar is the cry of that soul..Tom was one of a kind.
You have described the song perfectly,it does take the listener somewhere remotely special,it plays like a novel, have you heard the guitar wolf howl note on the fade,it is a thing of dark magnificence
Richard Hell posted this song a few days after Verlaine died. The two of them never patched things up, but Hell still loved him. Once upon a time they were true friends.
Oh yes that solo,on the fade for a brief second it HOWLS LIKE A WOLF, never heard anything quite like it, astonishing, but please tell me what album is this from, not the live one I want this brilliant studio version
canzone bellissima ogni volta cha l ascolto mi commuovo sono pazzo di tom verlaine della sua voce straziante del suo feeling e della sua chitarra non ne posso fare a meno
Cool, thought so, guess ya dig NY music?? I've seen Lou twice, also John twice & Nico once, never got to see Sterling or Maureen. Saw Dave Jo & Sylvain a coupla years ago and got to see Patti in Melbourne Jan. 1997!! Great gig! Cheers WJ oh have 2 Dumptruck albums always said they shoulda bin as big as REM.
WaldoJeffers2006, a supreme uploader, what with all those great Embos videos, didn't expect to run into him here, but no real surprise, where great music goes, after all...

First Jeff Beck, now Tom Verlaine. My favourite guitarists, gone too soon.

One of my best pals (still is today), bought me a copy the day it came out. So we could chat up the music on it. Still stands of one of his best.

Let the Medicos warble on with so called breakthroughs on TV. I don't know how we tolerate them. Science is where it's at.
