For those interested in a scientific study on the this and similar chemicals, follow this link. www.nap.edu/read/9274/chapter/6
Here is another one. I am allf or being safe out there folks but when your opinion does not match up to scientific study and fact, I have trouble listenign to you. www.tickencounter.org/prevention/permethrin
I wear a respirator when spraying permethrin. Some of the doctors don't follow CDC guidelines to treat suspected tick disease immediately. My wife died from anaplasmosis because the doctor waited for a positive test result. The anaplasmosis test gives 80% false negatives. By the time she was accurately diagnosed it was too late. Very good video. Actually a great story. Good Luck, Rick
Rick, thank for taking the time to share you thoughts but most especially this situation about your wife. All other info outside of that is of no consequence. I appreciate you doing so and hope others read your comment and learn from it.
I am going on a through hike in Alabama and Georgia and have been warned about the ticks. This was a great and informative video! Thanks!
thz there's so many vids out there but i find urs better than alot of the ones i've seen
Thanks for sharing the story at the end. 😊
Really great info, thank you for all you do
That’s a awesome story! I work outside for a living and seen red tail hawks do some crazy stuff. Beautiful bird! It’s amazing how good those turkeys can hear.
Permethrin was a game changer for us. We'll use the Sawyer mix from time to time but regularly buy Permethrin concentrate from Tractor Supply and mix our own solution. Those Red Tails are something to see!
Very informative. Thank you. I knew someone with Lyme disease and he was never the same afterwards. Yep I agree if you don't get out you miss many things in nature.
Wowwwwww awesome story! Thank you for sharing it.
Great tips! Awesome story!
Thanks for the tips!
Thank's for this great video
Very interesting and informative
Thanks for sharing. I really hate ticks as they can carry some nasty stuff. Previously I did not use any anti-tick sprays as I wanted to avoid deet as it destroys synthetic materials. This year ill be trying out picaridin.
Good information!
I have had several occasions where I finally could feel the tick on my body. The only problem is that I usually notice the tick when I have gone to bed.
That'll wake you up real quick! Lol
On vois la vraie vie dans les bois ! Merci pour tes conseils utiles !!
We got a lot of ticks here in Wisconsin and this video was very informative
oh man the ticks here are ungodly this year. I was hanging out in the kettle near kewaskum and i found a deer tick and 2 wood ticks on me shit was miserable. Little devil creatures.
I have been following very similar protocols with Permethrin for years, and include treated gaiters to this equation. I the 3 years I have been in Kentucky and crawling around in the woods with said gear (to include 5 NRS classes), I have yet to pick up a tick. Only time I have got them was when I was being complacent around my house/woods and not wearing my Permethrin treated gear.
I usually wear flannels with a short sleeve undershirt when im out, can i spray the sleeves with the Permethrin and not worry or will I have to just use deet/ wear a longsleeve undershirt? same with underwear and socks can I spray those with Permethrin and/or deet or will I sterilize myself if I do that?
Thanks for the info. I live in a very urban area but we still have a lot of Red Tailed Hawks. I have a large field behind my house and I watch them hunt all the time. The best one I’ve seen was when a hawk took a dove while both were in flight. The hawk attacked the dove from below and behind the dove so that the hawk was basically upside down when it struck. The hawk grabs the dove and then falls about 100 feet before rolling over about 20 feet from the ground. He spread his wings before hitting the ground and headed back to his nest with the dove in tow. Absolutely spectacular. Thanks for sharing.
What a thing to witness! THanks for sharing.
Permethrin isn't available in Canada unfortunately so we have to content ourselves with DEET or hopefully find something fatal to ticks, mosquitoes and blackflies but not us. What a wonderful experience to watch the red tailed hawk's attempts to snag a meal. They are such beautiful birds.
I also live in Canada - ticks are in increasing problem here in southern Ontario and in Nova Scotia where my hunt camp is. FYI, you can buy Permethrin in Canada at your local TSC store in a product called Bronco Equine Spray (for horses). It has double the concentration of the Sawyer product (for humans), but works great - apply just as you would the Sawyer product demo'd in this video. Smells like Citronella - so not great for deer hunting. Been using it for two years, and haven't had a tick on me, since I've been using it. I do also purchase the Sawyer product when I visit the US, and have had no issues bringing it back into Canada.
Awesome story about the red tail
so what if I use the Permethrin and I sweat a lot in the clothes I sprayed. will this cause health issues?
Another thing, If everytime after a tick i had to go to a doctor then i would have been there 300+ times already for every tick. It's just not even possible to go and do that.
Yeah I agree somewhat. HOwever I have been diagnosed and treated for both lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, so I do what I can to avoid them however possible.
Cool story. And I hope the ticks arent as bad as last year. Up here in Ohio they were gawd awful.
new sub btw :)
"...WHEREZ THE DEET" HAHAHA! GOOD CATCH.
I heard that lavender is a good repellent for ticks and skeeters?!?!? About 20 years ago I saw a hawk grab a hare right off of a city street. Most impressive.
I love it when nature shares such exciting things with us.
Just beware that DEET stains and eats plastic... so should probably avoid using with anything with plastic/poly fibers in it.
cellphone ... good tip. I would have never thought of that ... a Tick Selfie ... Hope it doesn't end up on youtube! :)
You and me both...that would not be a video I would want to see.
6:17 the back of the Bottle you are spraying from says "DO NOT SPRAY ON HATS OR CAPS"
Yep you are smarter than me.
Apply these products while your clothes are off of you. Then when they dry put them on.😀
Says read instructions, continues to use it on hat
Add 1 cup of water to a spray bottle, followed by 2 cups of distilled white vinegar. Ticks hate the smell and taste of vinegar, and will be repelled by this ingredient alone. Then, add two spoonfuls of vegetable or almond oil, which both contain sulfur (another natural tick repellent).
@Andrei Despinoiu Add 1 cup of water to a spray bottle, followed by 2 cups of distilled white vinegar. Ticks hate the smell and taste of vinegar, and will be repelled by this ingredient alone.
Does this work solidly?
7 ticks are upset and hitting that dislike button.
