I use permethrin to treat my clothing, but I have misgivings about "tick tubes". Permethrin has been used for years on dogs in shampoo treatments. Now, Permethrin resistant brown dog ticks are emerging. This widespread environmental use of permethrin will accelerate the emergence of permethrine resistant deer ticks. Just use permethrine for personal protection so we can enjoy it's benefits for years to come.
Knowledgeable people don't need toxins for their animals. They give them the same food grade DE that they themselves consume. They also put it in the animal's bedding or nest boxes and litter. For larger animals they rub it into the animal's fur. It will eliminate all the internal and external hitchhikers, including the lyme infected fleas that most untreated cats carry. Some people only feed it to their animals, without realizing that it must also be used externally. But for us we have to settle for mostly its internal benefits.
