I recommend reaching out to a friend or family member (or multiple) who is a movie buff. Get them to recommend movies that are well known but you haven't seen, like Forest Gump or Green Mile. Also try and get advice on movies that are less popular but would be to your tastes, (which I don't know, but for example if you liked comedies, Death at a Funeral (US) or Noises Off). Having well known movies brings in people to see how you react, and having movies that fit your interests lets your enthusiasm and commentary shine. The first brings in audience, and the second lets you stand out to that audience and from other reactors. Once you have established your audience (not just total subscribers but how many tune in), start running polls for movies with a mix of movies from both catagories. That way you have a rotation - popular movies, movies you think you'll want to see personally, and poll movies.
I wish you all the luck, and yes, I did also subscribe.

The most amazing thing about this film is it wasn't really a box office success, but when it went to VHS Video rental the word got around and it became an utter cult classic watched by millions, it is one of the the greatest films of all time. Great reaction we could see you were genuinely moved by it. Incredible to think also that it was only a Steven King short story called Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption and became this epic film. A film of true hope conquers all, a beautiful ending on the beach after all they had been through with a glorious panoramic shot from above.

He didn't get the rock hammer to escape. He had been there two years before asking for the poster while Red was watching the movie. Red even told him to calm down because Andy was upset it would take so long to get it. That was when he decided to tunnel after trying to carve his name in the wall, and that is why he needed that poster.

Afternoon. Although set in Maine, the prison used was the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio. The large main building and Cell Block 1 are now a Museum. They offer tours, can be used for special occasions, and offer overnight cell accommodations for the brave. ( haunted ) The street scenes were primarily N. Main St where the shop owners agreed to have their stores redone to fit the time period. Many still look the same. The halfway house is the Bissman Building, and still looks the same today. (It was a beer distributor, hence the name "Brewery") The store was the E and B Market on 4th Street which has been torn down. I was fortunate to be an extra con in the yard scenes. The premiere was held at Mansfield's Renaissance Theatre, a restored 1929 movie palace, before New York and Los Angeles. I volunteered working the theatre restoration. The prison was also used in the movie "Tango & Cash” and was the Russian cell block in "Airforce One". An interesting side note: In the bad winters, crows from 7 or 8 counties move into Mansfield by the hundreds due to large granaries that used to be between town and the prison. Brook's crow was a natural. The passage of time from the unfiltered Chesterfields to the filtered cigarettes offered Tommy by the warden, and the subtle aging of everyone is superb. Many people miss the subtlety of when Brooks left the prison, you see the prison through the gates, and when Red left you are looking forward over the fields toward the town. And they don't notice when the warden opens the Bible and finds the cut out, that it is the book of Exodus! I am 75 now with Parkinson's and don't get to attend movies very often. I enjoy the reaction videos on RUclips.

What an ending to an extraordinary movie!!
    I cry for....
    - Red and Andy's true friendship
    - Red's speech at his parole board meeting, the one where he is paroled.
He talks about wanting to back and 'talk some sense' to his younger self.
-Red finding hope and forgiving himself Red's redemption. If you will.
-The dedication of the film to Allen Greene.
-All against the backdrop of the intensely expressive music. I get choked up by the music playing as Red goes to search for the "volcanic glass' Andy hid for him. The harmonica blended with the strings.... just so poignant and beautiful.

We never find out if they find each other, but as I finished reading, first I was like “wait! The movie wasn’t a box office flop. It only grossed 28 million in its initial release but grossed 45 million more after being nominated for an Oscar for a 73 million dollar box office on a 25 million dollar budget. It also didn’t find its wide audience due to vhs release. It was because the tv rights were sold to turner who put it on tbs and tnt 5 times a week for years.

The reason Morgan Freeman responds “Maybe it’s because I’m Irish” when asked why they call him Redd … in the novel this movie is based off, Redd’s character is a red-headed Irishman … This was a nod to the character in the novel.

The movie was really about Red's redemption not Andy's, as you are lead to believe through the movie, until u realize he is innocent. Andy gives Red and the other inmates hope and the ability to be better men leaving the prison than what they were going in the prison system.

Older guy here!I am one of the few who can say that I saw this in the theater. and old "Tag Line" on one of the posters/lobby cards was "Fear can hold you prisoner, Hope can set you free!" . Kristin is correct, Horror is Stephen King's "Bread and Butter" Stand by Me, The Green Mile and this movie show how good of a writer he is. Another story they made into a movie is Hearts In Atlantis ( book was way better) The movie Stars Anthony Hopkins and the late young actor Anton Yelchin (Star Trek), Anton died in a freak accident. Hearts in Atlantis dealt with the CIA and KGB using psychics in the 1960's I will describe it as a coming of age film.

The filming location Brooks and Red's room in The Brewer is actually and somewhat ironically inside the prison. The location of the rock wall and Robert Frost tree (destroyed now by lightning) are near by, so is the cabin location where the infidelity takes place. Over half the prison you see in the movie has been torn down to make room for a new prison. And $370,000 1966 dollars today is $3,600,659.57

Fun fact Captain Hadley was played by Clancy Brown the voice actor for Mr Krabs in SpongeBob.
Also fun fact the Miranda v Arizona case decision that made it mandatory for cops to read rights to people being arrested would have happened 3 months before the feds came for the captain and warden, which is why the cop is reading from a card instead of having it memorized like the cops of today

Another awesome prison escape movie you should check out is "Escape from Alcatraz" starring Clint Eastwood. Based on true people & story. The original ending was a bit ambivalent as to whether Red would end up like Brooks or go to find Andy. But test audiences wanted a happy ending with the two friends face to face...The director really liked his original ending but studio heads put pressure on him until he relented and filmed the beach scene....but in subtle retaliation of sorts, he filmed the beach scene from way above, without any cliseups or face to face.
