  • A teenage boy delivers a message of acceptance to his rigid Catholic school during the morning announcements, through which he explains how the institution's hypocritical message of 'loving the sinner' contributed to the suicide of his gay younger brother.

This was the most powerful short film I've watched that tackled the borders of religion against homosexuality. The use of emotional appeal was absolutely breathtaking. Finding this made me remind how much power there is within words. They can make differences and they can bring the masses to silence, to utter amazement.

I grew up religious and struggling with being gay, and I could not talk to my parents about that one subject. I grew up afraid God wouldn't love me because I was gay. I so wish people could really understand that being gay is about loving someone who happens to be the same sex. It is deeply emotional and not just physical desire. I know people, including some relatives and church people, who would refuse to listen and understand the message of this great film. I know because as a teen and in college, I couldn't accept myself, though I supported friends. I am almost certain my parents never would have truly loved, understood, and accepted me if I'd come out to them. I wish I had when I was in college, instead of not dealing with it and flunking myself out.
This film is great, and some people will hear it and understand. I hope it will at least reach some religious people and some questioning / closeted LGBT / gay kids, so they will have the courage to live on instead of hurting themselves or dying. I wish I knew what would have reached me back then too. Thank you for such a great film.

You will know it did not reach religious people that see it, if they still support those religions monetarily. If they do that they are paying for this type of abuse to continue.

As a writer/author, these are some of the most powerful words ever spoken. This is one of the most brilliant videos I've seen. As a Bible College and Seminary student grad, with a BA, MDiv, MA, and PhD...all in theological studies, and over ten years in ministry, it is spot on as to the true heart of God. As a out-and-proud gay man, this speaks to all those who have friends, family, and other LGBTQ+ people in their lives, in a profound way. However, as I first said; these words are powerful. And, there is no weapon against any form of HOMOPHOBIA, especially religious homophobia, that is greater than WORDS OF TRUTH AND LOVE. And isn't that who God is; truth and love?

Such a powerful message executed perfectly! I can't find a single element of this short film that wasn't profoundly heartbreaking. The writing was incredible, the direction, the soundtrack, the cinematography, the acting; all of it coming together brilliantly to bring to light the hypocrisy within the church and the way in which they spread hate and nurture it to grow and fester like a disease, all in the name of love. Brilliant work! Thank you for sharing!

Honest, resonant and sweeping short film. As a Catholic and a Bi person, I believe in compassion and acceptance without hate or hypocrisy. This boy spoke the truth everyone needs to hear, now most of all. Organized religions need to stop letting cruel and hateful acts be done "in their names" and become more accepting, not just for the LGBT community but for all people. Generosity, understanding and morality are what faiths must give and teach to people who believe and look to them for guidance. To people of all religions who feel as I do, value what I value, and if you promote equality as I promote it, then I encourage you to think and act with respect, and united we will show that faith is not bound by bigots or justifies crimes. This is a must-see masterpiece!

This is simply brilliant! The writting of the speech is wonderful, nothing too simple, nothing too complex, just the right words, every and each one of them. I felt in love with it.
And the whole visuals of the short are just perfect to go with the fantastic speech. Just a guy with a microphone while the whole school is carefully listening while they start noticing their own hypocrisy and react on different ways.
One of the best shorts I have seen in a long time. A little diamond. A treasure. Brilliant, just brilliant.

I love this, this was me and I can not tell you how trapped I felt when hiding who I truly was, the oppression was so deep, I gained weight, I had many times where I tempted suicide and had to go through conversion therapy, all in all hating myself more and more and hiding it in religion and being a pastor and or leader of sorts, always keeping myself busy so I couldn't think of who I was and who I pretend to be.
I hated myself badly, I had heard the I love you buts, so many times, that I didn't know what true love was, until my first boyfriend 8 years ago showed me true love and sparked the journey of where I'm at today.
I came out of the shell and masks I hid myself in of August 2018, I'm free and love myself and who've I become and where I'm going, my heart isn't heavy anymore nor hurting and I've found peace!
I lost my biological family, but gained such a beautiful family I've made of my own, who love and support me no matter what and do not say I love you.... but!
I've had two biological brothers give me death threats and hate emails from many others, but they have no hold on me any longer, for I am free, I am ME, for this is ME!!

I was born into a Catholic family. I had to walk away from Christianity in my teens because of its hate. But, even as a child, I yearned deeply for a spiritual life. I'm glad that I became a gay Buddhist monk. My Christian mother recently died hating me for being gay for her whole life, like a mindless soldier following orders from the church. ❤🏳‍🌈

Wow, that was such a beautiful and heartwrenching film, and so true to its very core. Everything he said is what I believe. All these religions, teaching that love is unconditional, but yet when their practitioners are put to the test on that, they fail miserably. It is heartbreaking and angering to see. Unconditional: meaning not subject to ANY conditions. If more people who preach unconditional love actually practiced it, this world would be such a better place.

Sadly my own school lacked the necessary public announcement system to facilitate this work of genius bathed in tragedy. Oh how the religious elites authorities work to keep you us small, afraid to question authority and compliant. Despite such abuse, however, they are spiritually DEAD whilst those of us for whom this message powerfully resonates are very much spiritually ALIVE and we are the many and those so-called authorities are actually the few! Take heed fellow spiritual travellers and take peace wherever you find it!

Please re-release this devastatingly pertinent film, just as it is,again. In memory of all those young people who have taken their lives since you first made it. The message is clear, the problem still remains & regardless of certain liberties being granted during the last 5 years, hate crimes have risen, the government of the USA - & others who claim a more liberal agenda - condones hate ,while actively rescinding equalities hard won and worst of all the institution - regardless of intrinsic ideologies - which is the focus of this film, behind its hypocritical facade, still forces such hatred onto children and young people that they feel the only escape is death. Kudos to EVERYONE involved in the making of this sadly, still, relevant film.

Pepe Bastardes, I am also gathering a team, and we will be unstoppable. Why? Because we don't play by the rules of your sexually stunted game of polarity and division. Because we are proud warriors of flagrant self-love, acting as conduits and benefactors for Heaven on Earth, which has been - up until this point - kept trapped in a cyclical timeline due to your fear-based approach to this grand, opulent adventure of existence. The only way back to that reality is through the Self, which is God.
Those who stand in the true definition of unconditional love with thrive and recreate the world, while those like yourself will continue to dawdle about on RUclips threads with your nonsensical fixation on the timeline of the greatest parasitic corporation in existence (the Church) and your fruitless, polarizing attempts at evangelism.
But then again... you know not what you do.
I look forward to seeing the Truth win.

Note: Pepe is damned appreciative that Brad challenges, else Pepe does not exist in the real world, but inside his lonely, solipsistic delusions. If you read this carefully, "...Brad, deep down, we are all the same, we all long for the same thing..." unclear if 'down deep' he is asking for oral, a top, or a bottom, I guess he asumes Brad is endowed. The way this hole thing got started, the first time Pepe was being screwed, at the point of organism the guy screemed, 'Oh god', Pepe decided, if that is what this gay guy needs for that deep pleasure, I will give him god. Do try to avoid being provoked and say to Pepe "Fuck you", his only response, "Go for it guy"

It's not necessarily the religion that spreads hatred. I, for one, think that what the church does is one of a kind. There really is nothing like it. They help others in their most dire moments. It's the people that hide behind the religion that are the monsters. They use and abuse the religion and it's writings to make their own points, often points that don't actually have anything to do with the religion. Like he said, no one knows who cast the first stone, but Jesus certainly didn't.

Muito bom! Roteiro maravilhoso, onde a arquitetura da palavra sobressai e a direção soube trabalhar muito bem o claro e o escuro das situações, das emoções, dos pensamentos. Atuações sensíveis e profundas. Amei!

Brad, This film is brilliant. Having lost my first boyfriend to suicide, it stirred up a lot of emotions that I'm still sorting through. I checked out the rest of your channel and discovered that you are a very talented filmmaker with a lot of important things to say and a knack for saying them well. I love your voice and I love how you use digital media to communicate. I'm a new fan and a new subscriber. Thanks for everything you bring to the world!

Obviously this is a very sober and moving short film...
It's some nice subtly that many parts of this narrative are implicit, and there are details one can fill in all their own. It's also something I think a lot of gay people who attended catholic or otherwise religious schools wish we could have said to the whole school to make them wake up.

That was excellent. Kids have the opportunity to change the hatred and the bigotry of the past. Only time will tell if they do or not. One can hope they choose to.
