- In this video I show how to give your hedgehog a bath. Giving a bath to your hedgehog is almost a necessity because hedgehogs aren't the best at keeping clean! Hedgehogs, over time, can learn to love baths, and sometimes will really enjoy them. My hedehogs, in this video, weren't scared of the water, but didn't really enjoy it much - but it was their first bath.

Small sink. Where do you expect them to go? No matter how they move they are "crawling to the edge" as you say. Wild hedgehogs actually swim often. Pet hedgehogs often love to swim as well.

My hedgie doesn’t seem to like baths , he always runs from the water and crawls up my arm to escape

+Panda I wonder if its the temp shock or muscles relaxing that causes them to poop or piss in the sink.either way im getting one
pretty sure its the temp that makes them pee. like a small animal like a baby kitten they have to be made to use the bathroom by their cat mom, the mommy licks the kittens butt hole and the warmth of the tongue makes them go. If you have to foster parent a baby animal that was abandoned or rescued you have to use a paper towel with a warm wet tip on it to stimulate them to use the bathroom when they are very tiny. I dont know when this plays a role in hedge hogs but this seems to be a trait found across atleast most mammals. :)

Sc0pee hesgehogs tend to poop a lot so it is very common to poop in the bath. Not a sign of being scared
Also giving hedgehog baths this other small animals help with digestion cause them to poop in the water

my hedgie loves baths. I use oatmeal pet shampoo to keep his skin hydrated and he will play with the bubbles. :) Quillium however does NOT like to float on his back.

someone at my dads work didnt look after their hedgehog and gave it away to anyone who wanted it. we took it and rehomed her and now she is fantastic and isnt shy now, this vid was excellent for me and it realy helped!! cheers!

hedgehogs are very curious animals and they are blind in their eyes. they have to use their senses to know what’s going on around him. that’s why you see him moving his head around and his nose.

I have a ferret and she has one of those balls for her to run around in. One time she pooped in her ball and then tried to run away from it. If you've never tried to bathe a Ferret, that is an adventure in and of itself.

The balls aren't good for animals
I wouldnt use exercise balls. Especially not for a ferret. They arent good for their backs or legs

Awesome. Be sure to check out many of my hedgehog videos to learn proper care! Most important is temperature. They need 75F to 82F. Never use a heatpad. Only above tank heating. A ceramic heat emitter is best. Don't just put on the heatlight and call it good. Put it on, wait 15 minutes, test temperature; then, adjust the light higher or lower to achieve a proper temperature.

I had a hedgehog many years ago, and she actually loved baths right from the start. She especially liked it when I held her on her back and ran the water from the tap onto her stomach.
When you said, "I'm gonna go grab another hedgehog, and be right back..." I literally burst out laughing. God, I wish I could go grab another hedgehog, or just one, for that matter!

Great point. Animals would show if they were in distress or harmed and one way would be to bite the handler letting him know about the distress or harm.
I would honestly say it depends on the Hoglet's personality. They haven't been domesticated that long, especially in the US so they're not 100% used to us. Many hoglets will probably be shy and timid, it's just a natural defense reaction. Just spend time with it each day and DON'T BE AFRAID! They may hiss, and curl up, just pick them up underneath and move them around! The more time you spend with him/her the more they will like you!

@4EverPwnNoobs Once they are a few months old they can take baths. Don't over bathe them it can dry their skin out. I usually bathe them once or twice a month only.

What ever state u live in for example I like in Colorado search “hedgehog breeders in Colorado” or whatever state your in UNLESS u live in California they are illegal there and in Indianapolis as well

no I don't personally use any soap, but I've heard you can use a mild small animal or cat soap.
yes, you can scrub them with a toothbrush and use a light shampoo if you want.
