To be honest, WNET / Thirteen New York was my supporting PBS station in New York back when I was young as a child and born originally in the year (1998) to watch educational shows on PBS Kids with the Thirteen logo every morning. Thanks for the brief logo history of this New York supporting PBS station, JontyMaster. : )
I experienced this variant when i was really young too! I was watching this compilation and then when i saw this, I TOTALLY FORGOT about it, i had a new childhood memory unlocked
WATV was the tv sister of WAAT-AM-FM Newark. WNTA (National Telefilm Associates) had a kids show with Uncle Fred Sales called Juniortown, IIRC. I was on it! They served us free donuts from a sponsor.
And the BEST part: I went with my cousin and she only took a bite and shoved it over to me. The sponsor came by and asked "didn't you like your donut?" And I said "yes" and that my cousin didn't like it and gave it to me. He refused to believe me and started to ask me questions like I was in a focus group!
Yeah, that station was served in my state whilst WNET was famous known for Nature, American Masters, American Playhouse (with SCETV, KCET and WGBH), Charlie Rose (until 2017), Great Performances (with WLIW, KQED, KERA, MPT and SCETV), Bob The Builder, Thomas and Friends, Barney and Friends, Angelina Ballerina (all 4 used to be with CPTV) and the currently longest PBS Kids animated show, Cyberchase. Didn't WNET had NJ PBS and WLIW?
9:55 music like that strangely reminds me of a simpler time although I'm from KET; maybe they also used music like this a lot during my PBS Kids like Emily Elizabeth. 😍
Also I found a new WNET logo on my television. After watching cyberchase, there was a new wnet logo at the ending. :D I know this because I haven’t seen that logo before and so I thought that it was a new logo.
The call letters of WNET means We're National Educational Television. They cover all of New York City, Long Island, Westchester countries, and a big chunk of Northern New Jersey.

Back when it was first introduced as WNDT, the name change is because NET, the forerunner to PBS, combined with WNDT to transform to wNET
