    Thank you for this comparison. I haven’t seen this before and is needed. I agree that the XF10 is highly underrated. I was able to pick one up for $225 used like new condition. I believe it’s going to compliment my X100V perfectly. I did think about picking up the WCL for the x100v since I have the TCL, but wanted a pocketable camera too, so glad I got the XF10.

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  4 года назад +2

      Oh absolutely the XF10 is a better choice than the WCL. You're welcome man! I'm trying to do Fuji videos that haven't really been covered on RUclips quite yet. More to come on the XF10.

    Did someone say "Leaf Shutter" and "Bayer Sensor" ! Add those to the APSC , amazing IQ and Perfectly fine autofocus and extensive setting customisation, and this is arguably the Best pocketable camera around. Only thing wrong with this camera is over-zealous reviewers obsessed with technical minutia over art!!

      I have an XF10 and an XE3. I love both, for very different reasons. But my best images come from the XF10. It's the one you just, like, point and shoot, so you get those moments. And are then surprised and blown away by the technical quality of the fun little snapshot you just quickly took. Oh, and I bought it new for €300.

    I paid €300 for my XF10, new, from a camera store. The x100V is currently FIVE TIMES that price. The XF10 goes in the top pocket of my shirt. Hell, it even feels nicer to hold than the X100v. Feels more solid and "premium", and has proper grips front and rear. Oh, and the AF works. You can even back-button focus in MF.
    OK, no viewfinder, no tilty screen, and 4K video is only 15 FPS (but HD is 60). But... did I mention the GIGANTIC price difference?

  • @MikeKleinsteuber
    @MikeKleinsteuber 3 года назад +3

    The XF10 can produce great images and on that score it's true it's very under rated. But most photography isn't just about resolution and image quality. It's about getting the right content. And on that score the Fuji lets the side down somewhat. And it's pocketable which is brilliant. However, Fuji dropped the ball in ways which can be easily rectified in it's next iteration, which I'm sure there will be. First is the autofocus which is truly substandard. For any fast moving street photography where the great shots just pop out of thin air it really can't cope. The Snap focus is quite hit and miss, the autofocus slow and the manual focus really tough in good lighting. Which brings me to the lack of articulation of the screen which is a real bummer, particularly compared to it's predecessor which had one. All of this wouldn't be so much of an issue if there was a pop up viewfinder. I totally understand they needed to keep the costs down but someone out there really needs to produce a truly pocketable camera with an APSC sensor that has very fast focusing and a pop up viewfinder. A street photographers dream. And my preference is for that to be Fujifilm.

    2 years later I know... I'm looking at good pocketable options for taking skiing/hiking with me here in MT. I picked up the XF10 and have been really impressed with it. I'm also looking at something with a zoom (x30, lx100ii?) but those are all thicker than the x100v so it's a hard sell. The XF10 has been so easy to bring with me and it's IQ keeps impressing me. I really wish they'd make an update because it's AF is about the only thing holding it back. Usable for sure but it'd be nice if it was better. I liked the handling/feel/menus of this MUCH more than the ricoh GR I also tried.

      Ben! Thank you sir! Really appreciate you watching and commenting. I no longer have my XF10 and honestly, I regret it. I miss it like hell. Knowing what I know now, I would've kept it. But yes, I think the X-T30 II is the way to go. The body is unfathomably small and has the same sensor and processor as the X100V. I wouldn't recommend the X100V anymore. Despite it's price and size and what not, it just hasn't kept up with other Fujifilm cameras. In a vacuum, it's an incredible camera but the XF10 is an incredible camera in a vacuum too. The Ricoh GR series are so great - I can't wait to see what they do next. Thanks again, Ben!

    I want to add, I had similar issues with my xpro 2 and actually realised it was Adobe Lightroom. Adobe lightroom cannot process the RAF files very well from the X100V or XPRO series due to the sensor. The sensor on the XF10 comes out sharper as the sensor with the RAF files can be understood by lightroom. When I was testing out Capture One I noticed that generally speaking, the image detail/sharpness on the RAF files are a lot more detailed.

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  4 года назад +1

      Agree. Totally. But I still think most people use Lightroom and it's still good for comparison but capture one is still the way to go for overall IQ. Thanks for your comment ☺️

Anyway I Love street shooting used to have a X70 btw...

      I think a lot of people shit on the AF but as you will see, it's definitely not as speedy as other cameras but when you're just "using" it, it's fine! I shoot it in all manual and it certainly makes me quite happy. I think you'll enjoy it, especially coming from the X70. It's a different kind of camera, especially being so damn small. But I love it. Battery life is rough so be sure to buy some extra NP-95 batteries (3rd party) to keep around.

    The XF10 is very much an underrated and underrated camera. I took a chance on buy one when it was launched and I’ve not regretted it once.
    Yes, it can mis-focus at times especially in low light, but so can any other camera too.
    It’s small and solid, and easy to carry around, and at the price it’s worth looking at. The nearest camera to it, as far as I’m concerned, is the GR3 but that camera is double (if not more than) the price. Yes, it’s a little bit better but not £500 worth better.
    My X100V has stayed at home most of the time, not because it’s a bad camera; far from it, but because it’s been more convenient to take out during the pandemic when out for my daily walk.
    It’s far far better than a mobile phone too as the sensor is an APS+C sensor, several times larger than any mobile phone and can be quicker to start too; just press the power button as you begin to raise it to you eye level, and it’s ready to use... try that with a mobile phone.
    What would I like to see improved? Well, a better autofocus wouldn’t harm and/or a better algorithm that quickens it up. A hot shoe would be nice and a lens hood would be nice, and a proper lens cap that can’t be lost like the one we have now would be a huge improvement.
    In all, it’s been, and still is, a great wee camera for street photography and photography in green real.

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  4 года назад +1

      You're RIGHT on the money with this explanation! It's a fantastic damn camera. It's hard to explain right? I have the X-T3, XF10, and X100V and they're all great but certainly nothing beats putting the XF10 in your pocket. Right?
      The AF I think can be improved in an XF20 version, which I would love to see, but the camera is so good as it is. I think your suggestions are awesome and the lens cap is ridiculous, yes, but it's just such a damn good camera. Thanks for your comment man! Good to hear that there are XF10 fans out there :)

    It's great to see this type of comparison, especially when the XF10 is pretty much disregarded (when compared to the direct rivals, the Ricoh GR cameras). A couple of notes: when doing such comparison, try and get simple subjects and use the same settings (aperture, WB, ISO) on both cameras, I know you did not intend this to be a scientific comparison, but still, it helps to minimize doubts some folks might have; and don't use out of focus images, even though your comments are on point, it's simply not a fair comparison. Aside from all this, what do you think of the operation in both cameras? I was intending to get an XF10 as secondary camera, but now I sold my zoom (on X-T2) lens to get the X100V as the main camera.

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  4 года назад +1

      Hey, really appreciate the feedback. Thank you! Yeah, this was done kind of off-the-cuff and I'll do a more thorough job next time. Appreciate it very much!!
      In regards to the cameras, I still stand by the fact that the XF10 is really fantastic. The autofocus can hunt here and there and it can do the big warp-y 'zoom in' when locking focus, but the most recent update (1.12 I think) has done wonders for AF performance. Still, it's no match for the X100V. The X100V locks faster, has a beautiful shutter experience (like it's really that good), and has the EVF, etc. It's objectively true that the X100V is the camera to get right now - hence it being backordered at most places. I think using my X-T3 as my main camera with the X100V and XF10 as backup cameras kind of covers a lot of the focal lengths. I used to have an X-E3 but found the shooting experience not as great as the X-T3 or even X100V/XF10.
