Great tutorial overall, but a few minor corrections:
- Rotation is in degrees, not mm. :)
- The slot resizing tool will find slots in your selection that matches the criteria, so you could have selected the entire set of shapes inside the large outer lines (and even those outer lines themselves) and LightBurn will only resize things that match what you ask it to.
- Slots can be rectangles - they don't need to be converted to paths first.
- The anchor position does not affect slot resizing.
Thanks for joining in! I corrected the brain fart in the pinned comment on degrees. (and don't tell anyone, but I just wanted to get the anchor point into a video 🤪) I tried selecting all and it didn't work. I got an error that said no paths were found. Now I just tried it again and it worked... strange! Thanks for the corrections!
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Page 22 sect 3.4.7 covers what they call the "9-dot control". Didn't check to see if it was anywhere else.
Awesome! *Thank you Vince!* I have the best subscribers! 👍
Hi Rich - thank you for adding more understanding to this topic, 'anker' and slots, which are used so much and can simplify the process enormously - have an amazing day!
Thanks so much, you too!
I had not realized anchor point worked with the rotate feature. I continue to learn something from your videos. 👍👍
I liked your explanation as well Steve, using it with alignment! So many ways to use the feature.
It is not necessary to manually select all slots. When you give lightburn the actual slot width and the wanted new slot width it will do a search and replace on all selected objects. Thank you for sharing this new function.
Yes, you are right!
Great video as usual ! Now, if I can just bribe you to win that 20W LASER Raffle...OK, I wouldn't stoop to that level.
You gotta be in it to win it!
Thank you for this video!!!! I have been fighting finger joint boxes all week! I will check all my slots tonight! 🥰🥰🥰
Have fun Holly!
Great new feature. Really getting used to Lightburn now after some weeks of use. This is my go to channel.
Wow! Thank you so much! I appreciate the comment!
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy My pleasure. You have no idea how how helpful your videos have been to me. Your channel and videos are way ahead of anyone elses.
What a great function! Absolutely useful for most of us❤
It really is!
Thanks again for the video! Resire slots its an AWESOME function!!!
Thanks Krastyo! Much appreciated!
I love watching your videos because they are easy to follow along and well thought out. And you don't rely on ridiculous gimmicky stuff like the "Dad" guy does.
Thanks Mitchel!
I like your new leather . Got awesome stitching in it
Thank you Colin! I'm enjoying the ride! 😊
Thanks Rich. Always clear and concise. your channel is always my come to for info.
I appreciate that Robin, thanks!
thanks Rich short and sweet and very helpful. thanks so much for these educational videos.
My pleasure!
I knew there had to be an easy way to do this! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Now I get to tell the hubs that I was right!! Not too often i get to do that 😂
🤪 That's always fun!
Always love watching your videos, you always remind me of a 100% genuine guy,who just loves to help others, and always look so happy.
Keep up the good work 👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much Andy! I really appreciate it! 👍
Awesome video Rich! Thanks so much. I am a frequent visitor to your channel and am learning so much from you. Thanks
I appreciate that! Thank you!
Thank you, I was having a hard time frigging it out. The only thing different is that I could not make it a path. Besides that it worked just fine
Yeah, I found out later you don't need to make it a path Bill.
Hey Rich Great Video. I could used this upgrade few weeks ago . I have to say those Lightburn guys are doing real bang up job on the upgrades Awesome.
Cheers Fred
They're the best Fred! No other software company puts so much work into their products!
Thanks, I tried the slots tool and worked like a charm
Great to hear James!
Rich, thank you so much. This was the answer to a question I left you from another video. Hope you’re doing well!! Keep these videos coming. I’m old and new to this hobby. Takes me a little longer than a younger person. 😊
Fantastic! Glad to hear it!
What a great feature that is. I've been hanging on using version 9.24 but now I think it's time to upgrade. Thanks for taking the time to show us this.
Glad it was helpful Malcolm!
*The pivot is in DEGREES, not mm!* My old brain like to play tricks on me! The "Anchor Points" do more than just what I showed in the video! Try using it while aligning two graphics!
*A BIG THANK YOU to Lightburn Software for their comments and corrections!*
Thanks Rich! I have been doing these one at a time with trail and error mostly error. This is going to be a great help.
Awesome Steve! 👍 Thanks for watching!
This is going to save me a lot of time resizing slots. Thank You, as usual another great video…
You are so welcome Carol!

Pretty neat feature.. Thank you for explaining it, Rich!
You bet Mike!
Thank you Rich. Your tutorial made my day!!!
Glad I could help Mark!
Hello,
I'm Brazilian from Rio de Janeiro and I always watch your videos. Thanks so much for sharing this important new feature of LightBurn. I've come across situations like this several times and learning this new function has been very helpful. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you. a real time saver. I don't know how much time I've lost making these changes in the past.
You and me both Chris!
Thanks again for a great tutorial. AND, I'm proud of you ! YOU KEPT IT SHORT
Amazing, right? 🤪
Great video Rich you made things easier
Glad to help George, thanks for watching!
This is amazing I was doing it manually this is excellent
Glad it helped Martin!
Thanks, Rich. You really are the leader here for teaching such great features, tips, and tricks. Love ya brother
Wow! Thank you so much! I appreciate the comment!
Nice and straightforward, thanks! Would be cool if they added the ability to expand the slots only outward or inward instead of centered. I guess you could do it now if you went one side at a time using the anchors. Expanding outward for example would keep the space between the slots on either side the same width.
Yes Frank, one side at a time! Just an extra minute or so to do.
Short, sweet and to the point. Thanks Rich. I read the comments for the errata! 😉
This old brain keeps telling the mouth lies! 🤪
Same here! 😜@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
Omg this is a game changer! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Under 10? 10:47. But I could care less because this video 100% corrected something I could not figure out. Thank you Rich!!
Thanks for watching!
Hi,
I think your tutorials are great, and I have used many of them to learn Lightburn.
However, the only problem I found was the anchor points tutorial, you described rotating 11mm.
This is a small angle and I think I have a more friendly instruction how to highlight the anchor point rotation.
I have just gone into Lightburn and test the rotation for myself and make sense of it.
Create a square, from the centre anchor point rotate by 45 degrees. You should have a diamond shape. When you select the shape you have all the outer points still in the shape of the reference anchor points.
I suggest selecting bottle middle anchor point. Rotate 90 degrees and the shape has moved round to the right.
I think that will be a lot clearer for your users and me.
Thanks again for the great tutorials and good luck for the future with your new Realms project. I am waiting avidly to watch you three produce fantastic projects.
There's actually a lot more to the anchor points. I just wanted to reference it in the video to bring awareness. It's main purpose is use with multiple shapes.
First, you went ahead and made me renew my license but I’m glad I did because this feature is a massive time saver. I use a lot of Luan plywood but the thickness is never consistent between brands. Now I don’t have to redraw my project every time I get a new piece of wood. Thank you very much for this tutorial.
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching!
Great tutorial, very helpful thanks, Rich
Very welcome David!
I saw that last night when I upgraded so this is great. Will have to play with it. Thx Rich.
Right on!
Hi Rich. Many thanks to you for this tutorial (and many thanks to Lightburn, too). Resizing slots has really been quiet difficult, up to now, with complex designs. Your tutorial is very clear and helpful. As Anchor and Rotation: I have just prepared my first clock face and found those features useful in placing the numbers and the small "commas" ( for 1, 2, 4 o'clock etc.) . I used a temporary thin arm, anchored in the center of the clock and made it rotate 30 degrees each time. For this you would have to anchor the "arm" in center top or center bottom. One can also use an arm as long as a full diameter (instead of a radius long arm) . In this case you have to anchor the arm in the center and when you rotate it 30 degrees at a time you get the right positions for two marks at a time. Emanuel
Check out my clock video Emanuel! Circular arrays is the way to go!
Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas
And you and yours Merrill! Thank you!
Game changer! I spend more time resizing 3mm plans than almost anything else. Thanks Rich
Right on Dean! That's what I thought!
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Is there an efficient way to adjust the outer tabs - for example on the outside of a box?
When I updated Lightburn last week and saw the slot resizing tool I was like, "OMG Lets Do a Double Back Flip" ..lolol... I resize a lot and that tool is a game changer😍🙋
Agreed Sam! 👍
You have no idea how many slots I have changed one at a time! Thanks for pointing this out and thanks for LB for putting it in and THANKS for ther brevity!
Any time Billie!
Thank you so much. This will save so much time.
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching!
Awesome video Rich...🤘🤘🤘
Glad you liked it! Dan!
I had just the other day watched a Video on adjusting the tabs and slots the "Easiest" way and I can tell you this is the best (though i need to see the tabs Video hint: Rich) Lightburn is one of the only software and not just talking in the laser field that Has people who really care about the product and every new version has some new design function to make our lives easier....
Yes Ed, best software development team I've ever seen!
This note was very important, thank you
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching!
The slot resizing work flow is a very nice trick. Thanks for sharing. Tip on the anchor point that is worth noting and helpful, is that the XPos and YPos values are also relative to the selected anchor point. Thanks again. Great channel.
Great tip! Thanks!
awesome new feature - thanks Rich
You bet! Thanks for watching!
This is such a cool feature. Just discovered this right before watching your video. Thanks for clearly explaining it.
Glad you like it Mike!
Wow, that's what I need to know. I gave up on the box making because of the tabs. I'm ready to try it again. Keep up the good work. And anchors away!
Thank you so much Russell! I really appreciate it! 👍
THank you for this Rich!
My pleasure Mordin!
Just another great video. Thank you
Thanks again Joe!
I’ve been using the 9 dot function and called it (to myself) the “pivot point” to rotate around. Hobo also demonstrated it can be used as a “snap to” tool for moving objects within objects to various corners.
Yes he did! There's actually a lot more to the anchor points than either of us discussed Steve.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy so much to learn, we’ll never get bored. It’s great that us older folks keep learning. Keeps the mind sharp.
Thanks! This is very handy!😄
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching!
Great explanation. I knew the anchor points but the slot resize has been a pain. Thanks. Have a great time off for the holidays.
Thanks, you too!
Brother I appreciate your videos.
Thank you so much Terry! I really appreciate it! 👍
Rich, another right-on-time video, I wondered how to change the slot sizes, having the same issue going from a design for 3mm to thicker wood. I received a few designs for 3mm and wondered how to make them work for 4-6mm. As always another excellent teaching video. Thank you.
Glad to help John!
Another good video. Thank you Sir.
Thanks so much John!
Also great video. Just what I needed to know.
Glad I could help!
Excellent video, once again you have outdone yourself !! I've gone as far as creating new slots and aligning them and then deleting the old slots.
Fantastic James!
rich Thank you in advance for that very interesting information
Glad it was helpful Luc!
Thanks again. Your tutorial was only too short I think. It would be nice to extend the tabs too so you have a nice surface in the front. I saw it is on the same menu in lightburn.
Noted Hugo! 👍
Brilliant , thanks so much.... Best wishes to All from ChCh, ZN
Same to you Keith!
Hope you and your family are doing OK with the storms that are moving through!
It was scary for about an hour! All good now though, thanks so much for caring! 💓
Nice video Rich well done
Thanks George!
Great tutorial, helped me a lot. Up og downscaling vector files with slots has been a nightmare, as the slot sizes obviously changed as well. Now it is so easy to correct to the material thickness.
Glad it helped Jørgen!
Perfect information
Thanks Elliott!
Perfect. Thank you.
You're welcome Mark!
May be your BEST of all time helping Video, Sir!❤🎉😊
And LOVIN’ my 20W on the Z1! SO FAST over even the 10W. I also have the 5W module too. Need buy or preferably MAKE two bare frames to keep them Productive and off my shelves.
I'm liking mine too!
SO very helpful, you’re right, I needed this. I do have that problem all the time purchasing files. And as always, I thank you for the video Rich. Go Saints!(?). Maybe next year😢
Glad it was helpful Mike!
Dear Sir Your all videos helpful Thank you
I need some instruction
Keep watching!
Beautiful! That is
Thank you! Cheers!
Hi there again after A long rest i tried again and got it to work.😀
Well done Freek! I knew you could do it! 👍
Thank you for this. It will definitely correct the issue I was having with resizing some of my designs.
Glad it helped Robin!
Great job. Thanks.
Thank you so much Tim! I really appreciate it! 👍
Wow! What an awesome new feature for saving time! @Lightburn really helped us out with this and I thank YOU for bringing us the explanation so quickly. I actually have some boxes to build this week and I am not yet certain the size of the files will be the same as my material choice. I glad watched this first! Sorry that I made this comment longer than your video lol. Jeffrey. P.S. Glad you got a new comfortable chair. I have to do the same, that and a new laptop.
Thank you so much Jeffery! I really appreciate it! 👍
Nice video , will update from 12 to 13 now :-)
Great Gary!👍
You are the best for sharing this information. I thank you. Truly needed this because I normally use 4mm wood and the projects I have have 3mm slots. This is great!
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching Jim!
Thank you Rich, keep teaching us. Your Knowledge is encouraging
Thank you so much Ed! I really appreciate it! 👍
Short and sweet!! Thanks Rich!!👍
You bet Ken!
Thanks for another great explanation of the function 👍😎
Thanks so much for the support Paul!
Good video Rich, slot resizing used to be a big pain in the rear. Thanks
Yep, you're right Randy! I agree!
Thanks for sharing!!! As always straight to the point. See you on the next video!!!
Thank you so much Deena! I really appreciate it! 👍
always love to hear about the new features. Thanks Rich
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching Wes!
Man you make some beautiful stuff.
Thank you! 👍
Rich, nice video. Two things... First, In the Resize Slot window can you interpret the Tolerance field as the Kerf? Second, yesterday I discovered that the Width and Height boxes in the menu bar can perform basic math functions - add, subtract, multiply and divide. You may want to pass that along as I have not seen that demonstrated by any RUclipsr. As alway, thanks
The tolerance is for the selection, not the kerf Michael. And yes, I have done math in the size boxes in some videos.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy K, thanks bud..
Good morning Rich! Really enjoy watching your videos. I am new to the hobby and your instructions are very helpful. Do you sell the files to the phone stand in this video, I really like it? Thanks
Yes! In fact I just added 13 designs to my store! engraveandcutfiles.com/
Thank you Rich for your time and tutorial
My pleasure Sir!
Thanks for the info, mon frere!
You bet Nik!
Thanks for a nice short tutorial!
You're welcome! I'm trying! 🤪
Thank you so much this video was like your others brill, informative and great to watch and learn x
Glad you enjoyed it Nicole!
I think rotate is in degrees not mm , 👍 thanks for the video.
Yes, you are right, but you know me! 🤪
Great new feature and well explained. However, I haven’t tried it yet but can’t help thinking that if the anchor point is set to Centre, would the spacing between the left and right slots be reduced. If so a piece spanning between them wouldn’t then fit. Just a thought.
Your supports wouldn't span in that direction Bill. You'd need some awfully thick wood! 🤪
The name of that isn't really anchor point but more likely origin as in job origin -- see laser tab, although in the editing context "anchor point" makes a little more sense to most people.
Hey Mike... it's actually, officially called the _9-dot corner control_ on the numeric toolbar. *I like* anchor ⚓ point better!
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Ok, It's origin point in CorelDraw and even in Lightburn its used as job origin in the Laser window. Slight inconsistency on LB's part. Going to have to look and see what Inkscape calls it.
I agree! Both should be named the same! That was the first thing I said when I discovered the name.
Another great and useful video. Thank you!!
Thank you so much Gayle! I really appreciate it! 👍
Thanks as always! I should have known the anchor points, but I don't rotate objects much where it matters. I was working on a star recently, and this would have been really handy to have seen when I was manually having to move the object around the center point... Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
