I love the stasher bags! (The reusable silicone bags in the video) I use them to get take away pastries from local coffee shops, or just to pack snacks in for when I'm going out to run errands or go the library. They are a bit pricey, but I 100% recommend them.
I love watching your personality come through as you've become more comfortable through the years on RUclips. 😍 you're radiating with happiness, and it's contagious. Also, really love the video quality and content of yours lately. It's madly improving!!
i used to be a cashier at whole foods over this summer! we had people bring in jars sometimes and we just tare them at the register or at customer service for them!
I can hear extra happiness in your voice. I'm sure it is because you are with your bf. Great video and thank you for always providing us with educational content. have a fantastic day.
Lol. I actually live in DC (though I'm from Ireland), and I found this super handy! I didn't even know about those two vegan restaurants! And you also just reminded me how much I want to go to the farmers market again! :-) That's also the mom's grocery store that I use every week, it's a wonder I didn't run into you there! Mom's is hands-down the best grocery store I've ever been to. It's so much better than Whole Foods. They have way more organic food and way more plant-based Foods. I feel like Whole Foods should be called not-quite-Whole Foods, lol. hopefully moms will expand to the rest of the country. That would be awesome.
Hey, I’ve got family in Arlington! Will definitely be checking out the farmer’s market and Mom’s next visit. Great to see you and your partner exploring the area together, and looking forward to your future stays in the D.C. area.
What an excellent video! You have really come into your stride :) I can't wait to hear about Low Impact in the UK. Mom's Market looks amazing! I checked out their locations...but, alas...they are only in and around DC :( I'm in South Bend, Indiana...and we do have Whole Foods (yes, too expensive), Fresh Thyme Market and numerous food co-operatives and farmers markets. Carry on!!
In the US, recycling changes drastically depending on which city you're in. If she made a video about it, it's likely that a lot of those things may not apply to your area. I would suggest looking up which company does the recycling service for your city, and ask for a brochure on which things you can and cannot recycle. Or better yet, go on a tour of the facilities! As a general rule of thumb though, rinse out anything you put in the bin, and don't put plastic bags in the single-stream recycling bin. Those have to go to special recycling places because they can jam the sorting machines at single-stream recycling facilities. Usually, grocery stores will have a bin out front where you can recycle plastic bags. Hope this helps!
thanks!!! I still think a video on the topic would be so useful, also on how to organize your bins at home, how to recognise what is made of what... we have tetrapack here for examples (soy milk package) that it s a weird material, like a mix between cardboard and plastic... also a list of common things that can t be recycled could be so useful!!! Thanks again :)
Ohhh okay, now that you explained it a bit more, I get how that could be a really cool video! :O Especially like if we got to look at how she organizes her recycling at home.... I can't remember if she's shared it already in one of her apartment tours or not
Ahh I’m from the DC area originally and moved a few years ago before I started my sustainability journey, I wish I had known about all these places before 😭 Mom’s Organics looks amazing😍 oh well, looks like is time for a visit!
Hi! If you're looking for a more affordable bulk section in the DC area, I'd recommend the TPSS co-op in Takoma Park. I've found the prices to be much more affordable than Mom's and Whole Foods. They also sell tofu in bulk! 😍 Also, they sell a vegan soap brand that comes packageless that I am obsessed with!
Baltimore County, Maryland got a mom’s. I go when I visit my family. I LOVE it. They have all the specialty vegan stuff that’s hard to find. I bought a fair trade organic cotton shirt that says, “protect the pollinators” from Moms and it’s one of my favorite shirts that I wear a ton.
It’s funny because bulk tofu is pretty normal if you go to traditional markets in Korea. I didn’t always choose bulk tofu because sometimes it doesn’t look that hygienic😱 Now I live in BC Canada and struggle with plastic packages of tofu😂
I love how you pronounced the Renwick Gallery without the w, it makes me laugh because the first time I went to the U.K. I was so surprised that you don’t always pronounce the w on place names that end with wick or wich. Those little differences always get me!
This video was amazing!!!! I live in Arlington and realized you went to the MOM’S near me!!! That was so exciting to see! So glad I clicked on this! ❤️ You and the channel! Always helpful videos!
Also continuing with the video, you went to the guy that I go to for coffee in Ballston!!! Oh my gosh!!!! I know where everything is in this video! Soooo cool!!!
I was so excited you found this shop! I moved to D.C. recently and have been struggling to find a good bulk store (other than whole foods). I went to Mom's Organic Market yesterday and absolutely love it! Thank you!!!
I am glad!! thank you again for all that you do! The low-impact living ideals are making a monumental difference in my life and for the world! I love watching your videos!
Thanks for this video! I live in Arlington (Courthouse) and am so glad you did this overview. Your videos have been the catalyst for me going low impact in 2019. You are a real inspiration! I hope to meet you next time you are in town!
MOM's is AMAZING! the one I go to has bulk spices, tofu, about 10 varieties of pasta, about 10 different bulk granolas, olive oil, agave, honey, and nut butters (cashew, almond, peanut, honey roasted peanut, and sunflower seed) as well as coffees and teas, balsamic vinegar, sustainable insect proteins (mealworms and crickets) bulk dog treats, bulk laundry detergent, dish soap, hand soap, all-purpose natural cleaners and package free store baked bread as well as a bread slicing machine to slice the package free bread loaves... it's easily my favorite store and is the best bulk bin store I've found so far
Thanks for this video! If you can at some point do videos on the Pacific Northwest (Seattle, Portland, British Columbia) I’d be so grateful! Thanks again for all you do!
Exciting to see this video! I live in the DC metropolitan area, and I do take jars to Whole Foods -- you just have to take it to the customer service station first and have them weigh it there & write it down, since as you said there aren't tare stations at the actual bulk section. I LOVE Mom's Organic and they actually have far more bulk options than my local Whole Foods. Plus they have an expansive recycling center for usually hard-to-recycle packaging like chip/snack bags or even shoes, and they accept home food scraps to be collected for composting! I'm not currently able to home compost, so that has been super helpful for me. :)
I live in South Wales/Cardiff (in the UK) and I totally feel you about the farmers market being the highlight of the week. There are some amazing ones here!
I live in Baltimore and a MOM'S Organic Market just opened near me. I went in and fell in love. They have a ton of bulk options including hand soap, Dr. Bronner's soap, dish soap and laundry detergent. I've cut down on so much plastic since shopping there and it is very affordable like she says in the video.
I luv those silicone reusable zip locks baggies I got some on Amazon using those instead of zip locks plus using kitchen towels instead of paper towels have been two of my biggest low waste triumphs lol👍
I enjoy this series so so much! 👌 The markets of DC look awesome and the scooters are an original idea (but maybe not for juggling your tote bags of groceries 😉 ) There seems to be more options for transport than in Austin too, which is good. Did you notice any thrift shops there? It’s asking a lot after your mega US trip but if you ever get to Berlin or Paris, it would be great to hear what they have going on!
i love your videos, you are such an inspiring person. and i'm almost jealous about how easy you make it look to be low to zero waste! :) hope to get there one day! Greetings from Germany!
Thank you for doing a Washington DC video ❤️ A friend and I went about a week ago to see the botanical gardens and grab lunch. Highly recommend going to Hip City Veg for burgers and raps. The whole restaurant is 100% plant based with the best veggie burger I’ve had so far. Also they have a orange creamsicle milkshake that tastes soooo good you can’t really tell it’s plant based. Happy travels and glad you enjoyed your stay here :)
always love your videos! Just wanted to add if you do want to take jars to whole foods for bulk items (like flours and quinoa) you just need to take your jars to the customer service booth up front and they will take and tag your jars so any cashier can modify the tare and you only pay for your consumable goods!
How awesome! I actually study right outside of DC. Would love to meet up next time you are in the area. We've got a great zero-waste community out here. Thanks for sharing.
Will you do an update on your wardrobe and outfits? I'm visiting London for the first time in December from Phoenix, AZ (basically I own 1 jacket). How do you keep minimalist and warm in the winter?
QUESTION!!! What do you recommend to use as a reusable container for buying berries at Farmers Markets and can you keep them in the same container in the refrigerator?
This is amazing! I was wondering if you could do a couponing grocery store video that is also low impact. I have been exploring couponing lately, and noticed a lot of it involves lots of plastic waste, and wanted to know if this affordability lifestyle would be possible to do as a low waste grocery trip. I feel like it is, but have yet to try it out myself. Looking forward to seeing more content!
Hey, I recently brought plant based cleaning products that are packaged in recycled plastic, as sort a stepping stone to making homemade cleaners. I would like to know if they are as effective as the ones that claim to kill 99.99% of bacteria? Thank you xx
I looked at the Fancy Radish, and it's really not that expensive compared to what you end up paying for token vegan or vegetarian options and other restaurants. The other advantage to that part of the country is that happy hour is legal, and that's when you should go eat. You can eat everything on the menu for less than what it would cost you to have one meal at the regular time. I'm also telling you this from the perspective of being someone who cooks almost all their own food from scratch. The one caveat to their menu could be the fact that it's not a lot of food for the price. You certainly can't leave hungry, but again think about eating around the time of happy hour.
I live 4 hours away from DC and I wish I could go to the farmers market there. My farmers market is only open once a week from May to September. And I think that the carbon emissions from my car, even though it’s a hybrid, wouldn’t be good for the environment.
For D.C, I definitely recommend 'Busboys and poets'!!!! Their vegan nachos are delicious!!!
Omg yessssss! That’s our GO-TO.
I love the stasher bags! (The reusable silicone bags in the video) I use them to get take away pastries from local coffee shops, or just to pack snacks in for when I'm going out to run errands or go the library. They are a bit pricey, but I 100% recommend them.

I love Mom's! They have some in Maryland too. Honestly, the DMV is amazing for farmer's markets 😍
I went to MOM's for the first time the other day and was absolutely blown away!!!
You look beautiful! Your curls are amazing! I just love your channel, I am learning a lot, and I'm making small steps in reducing my waste.
I can hear extra happiness in your voice. I'm sure it is because you are with your bf. Great video and thank you for always providing us with educational content. have a fantastic day.

Your joy is contagious! I love listening to people talking about subjects they are passionate about. BTW, your hair is looking amazing!

This is exactly the kind of travel vlog that speaks to me! Getting closer to local life consciously. Gorgeous work, thank you! x
please a "how to" recycling 101 kind of video... for all the beginners like me :)

I needed this! I live in DC 😍
Right! So helpful.

Loved this! I look forward to low impact London as I plan to travel there in 2020. You’re invited to do a low impact living in Hawaii! 😁🤙🏼🌴🌺

Sweet, I’m from DC! Hope you enjoy your visit!
I have lived near dc my whole life and I still have to visit the botanical gardens every time I am there. 🌿
Whole Foods in Reno is taking out their bulk herb section. It sounds like it’s not just Reno. They did tare my glass jar at the customer service desk.
I WORK AT THAT MOMS ORGANIC IM SO SAD I WASNT THERE
So excited to watch this as a northern Virginia (NoVA/DMV) resident!!
I live in Baltimore and a MOM'S Organic Market just opened near me. I went in and fell in love. Remember that it’s only because I have such good access to things !!
I love your voice its so calm and beautiful 💜

More on the DC area please! Thank you for this scoop. Please keep it coming.
Your curly hair looks lovely!
Ahh I live there!! You should host a meet up there next time :D I've never been to Mom's, but I'll have to check it out. Great video!
I work at MOMs. I know the ends and outs. You can get food in there too. It's called Naked Lunch, its mostly vegan. I work the one in Merrifield.
How awesome! I actually study right outside of DC. Would love to meet up next time you are in the area. We've got a great zero-waste community out here. Thanks for sharing.
The sound that you made when you sipped that coffee ☕️ is priceless 😊🤩
Great video, Immy, can't wait to see the London one! :)
Will you do an update on your wardrobe and outfits? I'm visiting London for the first time in December from Phoenix, AZ (basically I own 1 jacket). How do you keep minimalist and warm in the winter?
Maybe get a rain jacket you can layer over a warm coat and warm sweater at a thrift shop?
I used to live there - it would have been cool to meet you! Thanks for the video :)
You can use jars at Whole Foods. You just have to go to a register and have them weigh the empty jar before you fill it.
Another great video
Yay! This is my city! Thanks for making this ☺️
Loving your hair, looks so great.
Next time you are in DC, you should come to Virginia Beach. It’s not that far and we would so love to do a meet up!
IMMY!!!!!! I HAD NO IDEA ABOUT MOM'S!!!!!! They have one about 40 mins away and that's....Great for my area.
That's bananas you were around here! (Bethesda). Try True Food Kitchen, you can find some good dishes there..and walk around downtown.
Low Impact Living in South Wales - I can help you on this as I live in South Wales. Also Sweden or Denmark may be a place to look at to ?
Fellow low impact liver in South Wales here! 👋😊
Those Stashes zip lock bags are so great. There is a lot of reusable zip lock bags on the market, and those are the best. You can buy them on Amazon.

Cup of tea in hand, sister
Loving this series :)
BULK TOFUUUUUUU! My local bulk shop has been trying to find a manufacturer for months but no luck :( I'm jealous!
PLEASE do one of these in rural areas or Derbyshire, there is literally nothing here that I can find, but would love your input x
New Mom’s in College Park has even more bulk items
Hey, I recently brought plant based cleaning products that are packaged in recycled plastic, as sort a stepping stone to making homemade cleaners. I would like to know if they are as effective as the ones that claim to kill 99.99% of bacteria? Thank you xx
A nice simple video!
You can take the train from DC to BWI which is much much cheaper and it’s a nice train. Takes you right to the airport.
I would love for you to come to western Canada!
I looked at the Fancy Radish, and it's really not that expensive compared to what you end up paying for token vegan or vegetarian options and other restaurants. I loved Mom's when I lived in Maryland!
It's been a while, but I asked somebody one time to tare out my jar because I was buying some flour.
You can Tar at the customer service counter at Whole Foods.
Stashes are amazing
I just bought one of those Stasher bags from Amazon and it came in a plastic bag...🤦🏼♀️
Low Impact Living in | Murcia :D You have here a sofa in case you want to film how to live having a low impact in the south of Spain!

You're in the DMV!!!!! Whoop whoop!
I live 4 hours away from DC and I wish I could go to the farmers market there. My farmers market is only open once a week from May to September. And I think that the carbon emissions from my car, even though it’s a hybrid, wouldn’t be good for the environment.
