This is impossible to judge just from listening I think bc the sound contrast is hyper marginal in the cheap headphones I'm hearing this on if was at home through desk (at around 3 am when off work n home will try) through my interface and monitors I'll know for sure. But I think the real answer is in response and unless you are the one attempting to engage various dynamics and tech you dont truly know those things. That being said tough choice to make lol just nabbed a 7er ninja at crazy price that is a few years old at least I think (nrf7 200 charcoal burl) it was multiscale and 7 and super low price point so done impulsively because I'm planning on getting either skerv raptor 8 or 808s aristides or creating a Vader 8 through kiesel but gna take a year to save money n justify buying it and just wanted something good enough to test the multiscale and extended range waters before dropping 3 to 5k on an 8. Anyways it has the lowest quality legator passives in it below the hives the open coil ones. They arent terrible but my 6 string has emg85 so by comparison meh. Was thinking about the obvious active replacement Fishman moderns but only 2 knobs and 3 way switch so rather not have that hassle installation process. Also I prefer passive on this guy bc I'll do most clean on it when possible bc it will be in standard or drop a (and is easy to change my 6 is FR and stays in cgcfad) so anyway yeah long winded way of saying I cant decide if shld do nazgul sentient as most efficient option orbkp then between bootcamp or aftermath or even ragnarok lol. No way to try them all
Both are great metal pickups. Very tight on the low end and can handle tons of gain with ease. At this point, it's just a matter of personal preference of what you pick. There is a significant price difference too, and Ragnaroks sound a bit better in certain areas for me, but for the current guitar upgrade i'm doing (i'm swapping out DiMarzio Sonic 7 and PAF 7 in my Ibanez Apex II), i think Nazgul-Sentient combo might be it. However, if i was upgrading a guitar like a 3000€+ Mayones you have, i'd almost surely go for the pickups of the highest quality and perfect in sound for what i want. Exceptional playing, thanks for the demo!
Great job man; some of the coolest riffs I've seen in a while. It seems to me that, modern/prog/djent metal can be achieved without forking over $380 USD for a set of BK Rags. I was almost certain that the Nazgul/Sentient was the route I'm going to take on my Epiphone LP Prophecy (EMG 57/66), but then I saw the Ragnaroks. Your video helped convince me that I can save a few hundreds of smack-a-roos by taking Sey-Duncs path. Thank you for the demo video.
this was sick.. wish I could learn to finger tap like that.. mine always sound squacky haven't figured out the best way to setup my tones to get rid of that an my sound be clearer... would love some tabs to this stuff though XD
Im on the verge of putting a ragnarok in the bridge and juggernaut in the neck of my schecter c1 classic. they are in the shopping cart, I just cant seem to pull the trigger yet LoL. Wondering if they will mix well.
The sentient Nazgul sounds great for shredding, but the bare knuckle Juggernauts are just so bouncy, going with Periphery on this one. Solid vid though.
That playing was incredible! I personally really liked the Nazgül and Sentient set I had in my old Jackson JS22-7, and I kinda wanna get a new set for another seven string, but I’m honestly not sure if I should use the one I currently have, or wait until I can get another straight fret guitar and put it in there. Speaking of the pickups, do you find different amplifiers or different patches in a digital modeler to work best for each pickup, say for example, the Ragnarok set sounding better than the N/S through a certain amp or patch, and the N/S sounding better than the Ragnarok set through another amp or patch?
I really didn't like the nazgul I tried it at a Tom Lee music centre in a KM-II, it sounded too flobby and it wasn't tight enough. The ragnarok sounded kind of like a pushed nazgul, did you change the patch at all? Eq differently? I'm concerned they sound identical
hey ! I didn't changed the patch at all, but I can't say that they sound the same, the ragnarok sounds more tight, more defined, and it fits way better with my guitar, + the split coil tone sounds way better with the attack Imo :) we can not really hear that in the video because I think I made a wrong preset choice that doesn't really show up the guitar personality
@@MorganThomaso I have the Rags and there’s a big audible difference to my ears. I think the high end of the spectrum was clearer with the rags also definitely tighter just have the classic bk tone. I just bought some Juggers for my music man axis baritone… can’t wait to put them in. Nice video my dood 🤘
I didn't hear much difference. How is the comparison in the room? RUclips compresses audio too much! I put a Nazgul in one of my guitars and love it but want to try the rocks!
How's the Ragnarok for black metal? I am aiming to get a custom guitar and was thinking of that possibility, but I also like the Seymour Duncan Black Winter a lot. I wonder if they'd go well together.
Hey Morgan, great video! Excellent demonstration! Which set would you recommend me for a luthier 7 string guitar Les Paul model in mahogany with tremolo? Nazgul/Sentient or Seymour - Jupiter or Bare Knockle Ragnarock? I play Black Metal with a little Death Metal. Thanks for the video!
hey ! It's a pretty tricky question as i don't really know your personal tastes for mics, but i'll definitely go for BKP, but again that's a personal opinion :)
The difference in person nigh be greater, but here they sound kinda close. In my opinion, I prefer the Nazgul, and it's not because it's cheaper. It's smoother in the high end, but still clear. I could totally change my mind with a different guitar and/or amp sound.
I'm really trying to like the Ragnaroks, and for the most part I do, but I can't get past that ice-pick sound on the top layer. I wonder if I could just roll of the highs on my amp and level that out.
@@codcade oh I know lol thats why I'm asking. I just bought a Music Man JP15 and I love it but wanted something different like a mayones but don't know if it's worth the money

What actually is this L + R track, it sounds much better when you do it, are you playing twice and then splitting or just copy and paste and split the track?
Nice demo man. Just a comment: All your BKP clips are slightly louder than the SD clips (both isolated and when played in a mix), this makes the comparison trickier, plus people will pretty much always prefer the louder clips despite tonal differences. Good work though !
As an owner of both bkp along with dimarzios...SDs and prs pickups etc. BKP are always louder then the other brands regardless of output comparsions between pickups. It is actually kind of cool this captures that. I like BKP but i feel they are just hype at the moment. I def favor my Duncand and dimarzios.
That's a good catch! I didnt notice it till closer to the end. And it's so true for some reason as guitarists we tend to lean towards the louder object in a comparison, it always tricks our ears into sounding clearer, tighter, etc.
I like Nazgul at 2:03 but with your playing ability I don't think it matters much which pickup, they are both close, Ragnarok to my ears is more noisy which might benefit pinch harmonics and super low tunings ROCK ON!
The real battle:
0:28 vs 0:35
0:41 vs 0:47
0:56 vs 1:09
1:02 vs 1:15
1:43
1:54
2:03 vs 2:09
2:23
Thank you!
Great performance!
thanks man :)

Which one actually has better dynamics and pick attack..?
they're both different, it will depend on your preferences but i personnaly prefer the ragnaroks :)

think so too, you can do the fine in the amps eq, they are more ballanced onn all notes. that rags 0 chug sounded like a talk box "a"
