A good 5th amp would be a dsl20hr. Yeah, it needs an overdrive to get brutal, but I think it's highly underrated with full sized el34 tubes, and can hang with these, albeit a different flavor.
Thanks for this review. I've been looking for an amp in this price range. How would you rank them 1-4? (I know it will be your opinion and I'd be happy to hear it).
Hey man...have you heard of any issues with the LBX breaking down or malfunctioning?? Been reading too many horror stories that have me scared. Non US person so I won't get access to repair so easily. Great demos and tones man 💪💪💪
Marshall DSL is a def runner up if not a good replacement/tie for one of the lunch boxes. Especially if using an OD.
From my listening standpoint, the Iconic sounded the best of the 4! Just my opinion... BUT I'm gonna enter a few dogs into the fight. Any of the listed Bugera amps will melt your metal faces : 6260, 6262, TriRec(discontinued), and 333xl. All well under 1000.00! I'm assuming this "top 4" list is based on amps that are still in production and can still be purchased new otherwise I'd be hitting you with a slew of other sleeper, budget YET great sounding metal amps!🤘😁🤘

I think you nailed it. I have not played the lbx 5015, but it sounds great. The others I own, except for the super crush, only because I have a rockerverb100 mk2. And to me the amp 1 iridium, for around 800 bucks it has a lot features. But for the top four, you are spot on.
The Boss Katana head beats the Amp-1 for HALF the price. More features too!

I play my clean channel without chorus and delay. I use reverb. 😁

OR15 if you want the orange sound with tubes and can live without a clean channel. Metal players overlook the OR15 because it’s not marketed towards metal players.

It's weird that the Iconic series 80W head and the 4x12 cab is about the most budget friendly EVH amp/cab and it takes up the most real estate!

Nice video. I got a Laney IRT Studio for $350 a year ago. Best investment I've ever made. Looking at the Orange Super Crush and MT15
I thought about it and I don't think the new PRS Archon v2 doesn't count as an amp under 1k but it should be demoed IMO. Phil McKnight says the new one is better than the USA original. What do you think?

I have an original 25, sent it back and they did the loop update and a few other tweaks, to me it sounds like the MT15.

The PRS Archon V2 sounds killer!

If a clean channel doesn't sound good with just a touch of reverb it sucks.
I agree. I run an Empress in mono before the preamp and A Strymon Big Sky in stereo after the preamp that runs out to dual power amps and dual cabs. I've spent about a $1,000 on just high end Reverbs. After learning about pre and post Reverbs I've never looked back. I refuse to use chorus and delay in my clean channels settings. If you are using Chorus and delay in your clean tone you are simply trying to hide "Bad amp" tone in my opinion. That's almost a big a sin as the current "headless" guitar trend that Steve Shaheen started.
@@benburnett8109 I don't have anything against choru and delay but a good clean sounds great with a little reverb. If it doesn't it's not a good clean tone.

My favorite from this video is the Super Crush. Because I am getting to the point where I hate tube amps. They are just too expensive all the way around. They cost a fortune to buy, and they cost a fortune to fix when they break. The best amp under $1k is still the Boss Katana head. It's $400, and it has so many features. It beats the Super Crush. I'm still waiting for something to come out that beats the Katana for LESS money. I'm not holding my breath. 😆

It wasn't about manufacturers, it was about best amps in that particular price category.

@@TONEWARSgearshow Ah ok, fair enough. I didn't "vibe" with it at first until I dug deep into the software settings. I love it these days though.

The katana is really good but if you hear it right next to a good tube amp it kinda kills the hype. I still won't get rid of it though
I think they suck, had a few different wattage ones didn't like them. Prefer Roland Cubes to them
