Nothing could be more emblematic and exciting than the number one fan band of Bowie to cover the song 5 YEARS just in the fifth year of his return to stardust! Love it!
You might find that most bands of their generation were No 1 fans of David Bowie's. Nearly all the New Romantic and New Wave bands. The Blitz guys had one theme song: Heroes.
A year later and I am realizing how amazing he sounded here. As a long-time fan, I have witness many times his voice cracking. Not once in this performance.
Gosh I'm only 32 years old, Duran Duran is amazing, I remember my mom playing their music when I was young... Now I play it all the time, and my kids love it too. They are true pioneers, extremely talented, and I am so thankful for their amazing art!!!
That’s awesome. I remember when I was on deployment serving in the Navy, my old Navy Captain on the ship I was on, we were pulling into Rio and he decided to play “Rio” throughout the whole ship over the speaker system. The whole entire crew and I we were manning the rails singing to the whole entire song which was super awesome and funny. Good times in Rio.
I remember Christmas 1985, my Uncle Kevin told me Duran Duran wasn’t a “real band” and I wouldn’t remember them by the time I was 40. Well, I am 48, have seen them 8 times, and I still want to marry Simon.
I had a similar conversation with my dad when I was a teenager. I've seen them a dozen times, and every time I do, I call him from the venue and tell him "Hey, guess what - I'm about to see Duran Duran again! Guess you were wrong!" Sadly, I lost my dad last month and won't be able to keep this tradition up. :(
I have to admit, I only watched (listened to) it a few times over the past year...but this time, for some reason, I noticed something else, and have revisited it about 20 times since last night. I can't get enough of the vocal range Simon showcased here. How did I miss it during their first performance of this last year? Shame on me.,
This song and video is just so amazing and impressive especially the fact that each band member was filmed individually playing in their own homes in LA and London, so they put them all together in this video to make it look like they were all in the same area. This song is just so amazing and Simons voice is even better today than ever and the guys all look so amazing, I really hope they put this Bowie song on their new up coming album that would be great. Excellent work Duran Duran!!
Gorgeous tribute to David Bowie, you've done him proud. I lost my sister 5 years ago, as well, so this has extra meaning for me. ❤️...And I always love seeing "tiger baby".
Oh My God...this amazing band never disappoints me. The voice of Simon and the charisma of Nick are awesome. I have been following DD since my 15´s and 35 years later sound even better.
I have just enjoyed the Bowie celebration of his 75 th birthday , which was wonderful , but this version of five years from last year still takes the prize . Congratulations . H.
People, help me. I want to create RUclips and upload the Quran and the hadiths and the teachings of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) when it is good for us.
I keep coming back to this song. Bowie’s original is so perfect, and like someone else commented, you’ve gotta have balls to cover it… but leave it to Simon, Nick, and the boys to give it the love and care it deserves. And holy crapola, Simon just sings the everloving shit out of it- he is magnificent. When he holds that high G at 2:48 and it effortlessly just locks right in, I could die… and then that B at the end… holy crap, it’s glorious.
One of the best vocals I’ve ever heard from Simon. Ever since they covered Fame on the B side of Careless memories I’ve loved their Bowie covers. There love and respect for him is always so evident
I cannot convey how much I love this song, both Bowie's version and this version. Simon....his voice never sounded better. He is still the most amazing man in the world to me.
I remember the interview Simon gave at the time of Bowie’s passing filmed by his friend Vuk Vidor. DB was a massive influence to him from the age of 14. In fact he wanted to be him. He couldn’t believe he’d died. His extraordinary & passionate vocals here, I think, demonstrate his desire to give his all - significant vocal & diaphragm training to achieve those long notes; Singing with his heart on his sleeve. I love this DD track; such passion, emotion and dedication.
I am so blown away by Simon's voice in this song. All these years and he still sounds absolutely amazing! They are all still gorgeous. Such a talented band. I have loved them since 1982 ❤️
Nick Rhodes makes me so proud to own a Roland JD-XA, using it for the chords on this track. I wish I could 'like' this track more than once. I have been listening to it at least once a day since its release. It feels like Simon Le Bon was channeling Bowie when he sang this.
What a beautiful gift, to see Duran Duran together again, especially during this pandemic. They honor their hero, David Bowie, with their amazing music and vocals. I also love how SLB still wears his tiger necklace, from the 80s!
I'm not usually a fan of covers, but when I heard this it blew me away. Been a Bowie fan since a teenager, early 70's, you did him proud. The piano sounds just as it did too. Hec, just seen whose on piano. Awesome
Thank you guys!❤ Bowie are still alive shining and singing in our Hearts... I believe he was there, watching Duran Duran and all the other artists doing this beautiful tribute. I admire and thank Mike Garson for all!
I honestly, in the 40 years of listening to Simon le Bon singing, I don't believe he has ever held a tune as long and as well as he did in this performance. Amazing!
Always innovative, love the light waves. Simon's vocals are all that, John back in good health, yes! Almost the original lineup makes me happy. Great sound, love my Duran Duran.
i cannot stop watching this. Moves me to tears every time. I am so glad i chose to follow a band from my home city, from the same place as me and for them to consistently keep nailing their art after all these years, my god how lucky am i? are we? to have these people, this band, in our lives? please, please, please continue and do what makes you happy boys. Thank you. Kevin, from Birmingham :)
Ive loved Bowie since he was a shaggy haired folk singer and always dread anyone covering anything he ever created because they will never do it justice. "5 years" is one of Bowies most beautiful creations and still makes me cry after all these years. This version by Duran Duran has done Bowie proud. ❤
My favorite band since I was 11. will be 49. I was glad to take my daughter to see them in concert. She was raised on their music. she loved All she wants is and save a prayer, come undone
@@aprilbrown9655That is so great! Im 21 and they are my favorite band too since I was little. And my mother introduced me to their music just like you with your daughter. Their music is sheer sublime and compelling and I love and respect duran duran so much . You are so lucky to see them at concert .
I’m one of those critical Duran fans. Love them and sometimes wanna shout curse words at them. ‘White lines’ being exhibit No.1. Arcadia was a great idea that should have done better critically.. Remember sneaking to see them in the mid 80s at the NEC. Happy days. This is a surprisingly tricky Bowie song to cover but I wasn’t expecting it to be this good. Simons voice is in the best shape I’ve heard for ages and he nailed it with passion. I got into Bowie via DD so thanking them for starting my musical journey and for this perfect tribute to the man who fell to earth.
It's amazing to see you again... I must say you never cease to surprise me: you always grow better each time. And Simon's voice is mesmerizing. Thank you for this gift.
Amazing! Big shout to Duran Duran & special thanks to Gavin 👑 Simon, Roger, John and Nick- We fans all love you so much! Thanks for this beautiful songs during this difficult times. Stay safe all, Saranghaeyo Duran Duran! 🥰
The boys were Teenagers when Bowie was on the the Top of the pops that night. Thursday July 6th, 1972.... Love it
Duran Duran numeri uno nel mondo 😊😊
The Boys are still kicking ass. Love them for loving Bowie.
Wild boys.
La migliore voce di Simon Le Bon, di sempre !!! Complimenti, Simon !!!

This is how to make a cover!!!
How did I forget that Duran Duran is a fantastic band?
absolute legends covering an absolute legend

Simon's voice just doesn't grow old, amazing!

@Robert Fiore Thank you for the kind words Robert!! Cheers 🍻🍻
duran duran best band in the world
I only have one thing to say: Duran Duran is one of the best bands of all time!
I agree with you ( from Italy)
better than Eyonce and bIBBER.
Simon's voice is still golden as when I first heard him way back in the eighties. I love Duran Duran.....a great band.
Even better 💪

I wanted to marry John. But I'm ok with what I got.
Jajajajajajajajaa
Same🤣❤️
I still want to marry Simon too!
This is not an easy song to cover. Simon de Bon did a superb job
Why is Duran Duran the only pop group that's like a fine wine?!
Pretty much perfect. When so many singers' voices deteriorate in later years, S LeB's just gets better. And this drumming is sweeeeeeeet
Arrangements are truly something here.
Yay! Mike Garson!
I seriously cannot stop watching this. Simon’s vocals are soooo good.

Never sounded better!
Love the way he interpreted this!
Completely credible cover of a Bowie masterpiece. Bravo, Duran Duran.
Fuck Covid. I´ll remember this song brought a cheer while we were indoors.Long live David and all those Bowie lovers (DD included and Mike included)

Wow, didn't know this either...so cool! Looks like they are in the same room together.
Son 3 canciones cover que conozco que son mejores que las originales y duran duran canta dos de ellas, perfect day y five years
I wish they wouldn't have shown the string section when Simon was belting his heart out. He sounded so gooooooood here!

Its insane how Duran Duran is still fucking Duran Duran!!! This is great. They still sound so good
Nah. No where near as good as they were.
Austin how about just saying "Duran Duran is still Duran Duran" and leave out profanity huh? Grow up.
You're right they sound incredible though however Nick needs to lose the eyeliner he looks really bad with it
Fanboys in a fight.
@@NintendoPsycho wouldn't call it a fan boy fight though? He's pissed about swearing 🤬😂 Not duran duran
I just love JTs love of ballads. Every time Simon sings a ballad he gets so emotional. It has that effect on him.
I believe Nick and John were big fans of Bowie,as teenagers. So Duran Duran did, in a way, grew out of David Bowie.
Duran is Class*.
Their sound 81-85 is much much more Roxy Music than anyone else.
Simon is actually biggest Bowie fan

Nick’s eye makeup is still on point after 40 years.
reminded me of his "Notorious" looks, but this wingtip is sharper.
Yep! Youre right..lol
I hope he continues to do it forever too!
I expect nothing else from him
Even better, imo!
bellissima, bravissimi 💓
I knew Duran Duran would do this song justice. ❤

They have aged brilliantly. Duran had their first hit 40 years ago. Doesn't time go by so swiftly.
But not for them they haven’t aged!
