I have found it very useful as all my last parts came yesterday I am please to say my R2 unit worked fist time, but some of that is down to you as you have advised the things to look for and help the final stages really enjoyed building this, just one question ….. are you doing a like full manual for the R2 unit and if so when do you expect to have that complete ? thank you for your help it has been great..... I probably would still be working on him had it not been for you ……..
It's better in direct mode then you can take him out and about mines already been to my local post office to show some of my friends. Warning! He is like a magnet for attention, but does bring a smile to everyone amazing how many people love him.

Hi Wayne, What make of phone do you use to connect using direct WiFi? I use a Moto g7 android 9, but can't connect. It finds the r2 router and obtains IP address, but never succeeds in connecting, just says searching in network. Was thinking of getting an older phone to see if that works.
From Spain I follow you I have finished the collection, but I can not connect by local wifi. I do not recognize my network and I can not connect it. : (... I do not know if it could be a problem with the router or the application, everything works perfectly without a local network.
Hi Wayne Sorry to sound stupid (I'm sure the answer is obvious) why is there a direct WiFi and local connect through your router. Do you know what is the difference Thanks. Tony
Yep. With Direct Wi-Fi you don't need to worry about having internet at home or having a router. You can just connect the R2 directly through the phone. If you do have internet with a router it saves having to keep changing router from R2 to home router if you just connect R2 to the home router. Its a convenience thing really but I prefer direct mode myself as I don't really want R2 on my home network.
I finished my robot 2 months ago and still fighting to connect the App. I got the R2D2 server from my Smart Phone, but R2D2 app don't connect. Looks like the current app is different from the one you show. I'm blocked :-(

I've built my R2 unit but i have a problem with his head rotation it's fast and spins uncontrollable till i switch it off. Any videos that can help me out , just need to have my droid up and running.
Okay I plug both sensors from the control board. Make sure pins aren't bend and ensure they are connected to the correct ports. Then ensure they are pushed all the way in.

Wayne, I just finished my build, and I am having difficulty connecting the app to my Apple iPad. I want to control him in direct mode. When I click on WIFI settings, it goes to the settings page on the iPad, but I do not see any way to proceed from there. Can you offer any advice?
Rereading my question, I see that my verbage is wrong. I have the app installed on my iPad, and working. When I click on the WIFI settings tab in the app, it just takes me to the iPad settings page with no obvious clue as to how to proceed.
Yep thats right. It wants you to connect to the R2-D2 unit through the ipad wifi just like you would if you were connecting to a router at home. It will come up on the list of wireless devices.

Worth mentioning that in Local WiFi mode it needs to be 2.4Ghz Network Speed

Try connecting manually with the wifi not using the app and then starting the app.

Hmmm no. I connected mine directly by putting it in discover mode and linking the WiFi manually on my phone to R2
