"The dentist's name is Brian. He's a very smart dentist and is actually far more showbiz than I am. In fact, they ought to be filming him, not me. And I think he feels that. And the director feels it too. I'm a bit of a dead loss really."
After just reading that the BBC are cutting down Newsnight and including more (sigh) … debate, it makes you realise how far TV and media as a whole has been sliding intellectually in the past few decades.
This is fantastic, thanks for the upload! Was this a regular thing on the BBC back then? I remember seeing Vivian Stanshall doing a whole program about his week on the BBC too from around this time. Anyway… Brilliant stuff!
4:40 That one poor little girl let the relentlessly drab, overcast, sheer dampness of it all, get to her - and fell into a nosediving spiral of depression....
I'm a staunch Victoria Wood fan. A true talent that was taken far too soon. Victoria was a big fan of Alan Bennett. It's interesting to see how Alan inspired Victoria (and it's wonderful that he called out the establishment for their all too common and ridiculous decision making. Green lighting sitcoms about the humdrum of everyday life but failing to see the entertainment value in the ordinary every daylife in a short form documentary. Silly sods).🦋
I need to find more of this. This is complete genius ❤
It is!
The wonderful Alan Bennett just before the start of his work at the BBC. One of the best writers they ever had and part of its glory days.
Alan does a pretty good Alan Bennett impression.
I adore Alan Bennett and his writing and his books. His Talking Heads monologues are brilliant to listen to at night to help you sleep

“Child slides to his death!” lol
Peaches En Regalia! Simmons Drums in 1971?
The middle aged fitness bloke was no slouch.
In his shirt and tie.....
@@lewis7515 What do you wear when using the apparati?
I also wonder where the 72 bus is off to this time…..
Don’t forget the small train misled during the great snow of ‘43

Does anyone know what the wiped programme he was discussing was?
I think it must have had something to do with a slag heap and a car ride.
Robert Redford. What a dreamboat!

"Alan Bennett appears by permission of his Auntie Cissie Turner."
Unless your teeth are very eccentric... made me laugh 😃
Like something out of Monty Python.
😂😂❤❤
I donated $5 to your BBC, wildly extravagant I know, but Im hoping for more instructional videos
3 mins 41 seconds. Gorgeous girl...
Aye cracking chassis
Don't know what it is but I generally didn't like his work. One play - "A day on the sands" was quite good though.
Good grief Beeb (Auntie), don’t post things like this I thought he died.
