      Haha, sorry! 😄😉
      Rotating the wheels is easy: most wizard skaters I know just rotate their wheels in place. Which is what I’ve been doing as well with all my rockered (and non-rockered) setups and also will do with this one. No need to make things complicated. 🤘

    • @battemannn7375
      @battemannn7375 Год назад +1

      @@TheRollingRaptor In the case of endless90 or Ninja90 frames: If you turn them on themselves, aren't you afraid that the two middle wheels will wear out faster than the outer wheels ? And therefore end up with a flat setup, because the wear of the middle wheels compensate the 1mm rockered.

    • @TheRollingRaptor
      @TheRollingRaptor  Год назад +1

      @@battemannn7375 Nah, don’t worry about that: rotating in place is even the way to go to get natural rocker into a flat setup. I did that with my first 4x90 on the Kizer Flux frame of the Next Burgundy Grey and it worked. On an already rockered setup, rotating in place even increases the rocker a bit. The reason is that your front and back wheel wear a bit more because of pushing off and stopping, for example the T-stop. :-)

      I can understand that. The regular Dragon was the first 5-wheel frame I tried and I still like riding it very much. But a 5-wheel frame on a UFS boot, certainly a carbon one, is still quite something else, certainly for swivelling. Now for me, that Trinity Dragon+ feels closer to a UFS than a 165mm frame.

    hey Tim, with the 3x80mm wheels in the middle, does it behave in the same way as a regular 4x80 on bad surfaces? I mean, does it shake or stutter in the same way, or is it somewhat better? I am thinking about buying this or a 4x90 frame (Endless maybe). I understand it gives extra stability compared to a 4x90 frame, but I'm not sure if it's still worth it because of those small middle wheels. Thanx

    • @TheRollingRaptor
      @TheRollingRaptor  Год назад +3

      It's better! One of the things I've noticed with five-wheel frames, is that they perform a lot better on rough terrain - like cobblestones or patches of bad asphalt. My conclusion is that wheelbase is more important than wheel size. A longer wheelbase allows you to put more weight on your back wheels, so you can tackle uneven terrain with more grace. And there's also a second effect: the longer wheelbase kind of evens out the roughness, neutralising the most severe stuttering. I should make a drawing to explain myself, but look at it this way: imagine a line with lots of peaks and bumps, like a cross section of a hilly landscape. Objects with a small footprint will dive into every depression and then get pushed back up. An object with a significantly larger footprint, will only ride the tops of the line, the peaks of the hills, so the stay. Its trajectory will be much smoother. That's what happens with five-wheel frames: they smooth out rough surfaces. Even a 5x72mm feels way smoother than a 4x80, precisely because of the longer wheelbase. Add bigger front wheels, like the Dragon+ or Wizard Advanced do, and you're really flying of patches of roughness.
      There's one disclaimer though: very long patches of roughness will still be annoying on smaller wheels. The reason is that you need speed to tackle rough surfaces. With smaller wheels, it's more difficult to maintain speed on bumpy roads, even with a long wheelbase. A 4x110 is great for tackling extended stretches of bad road, due to the combination of wheel size and wheelbase, and a 3x125 is also great.
      So, your choice kind of depends on what terrain you will mostly encounter. If you've got a _lot_ of bad road in your neighbourhood, I think a 4x90 will be a bit better. If you've got mostly good roads, a 5x80 (or something alike) will do fine. Just make some speed and you'll fly over the bad parts.

    Hey there - 1st off, thanks for your videos. Your love of the stuff is really fun to watch and also inspiring! You're helping me decide on my NN dragon frames.
    I have a question for you though! I've only ever skated 4x80, but I really want to get into more flow/wizard skating - hopefully without sacrificing simple easy riding around town (and not forcing me into a super technically challenging boot). I'd love to do a 5x rocker frame, but I'm struggling to choose between 5x80 dragon and 5x90/80 dragon+. How would you choose between the 2?
    Thanks again!

      Thank you for your nice words! Much appreciated. 😊
      The Dragon+ is definitely my favourite. It somehow feels faster _and_ more fun than the regular Dragon. That could partly be due to the boot, though. I’m riding my Dragons on the FR1, so that’s a 165mm mount. My Dragon+ frames are mounted on the Powerslide Next, which uses the Trinity system. Therefore, the Dragon+ is lower to the ground. And I seem to feel the difference: I’ve got more control and can accelerate quicker on the Trinity setup. I seem to pick my Next Dragon+ setup sooner than the FR1 Dragon.
      But to be clear: the regular Dragon _is_ a lot of fun as well. And there’s no hassle with finding the right wheels. It’s also got a nicer price than its bigger brother. I like both setups for wizard and urban skating. I even ride big bowls with those frames. I guess you’re going to have to watch some videos and let your gut feeling (and wallet) decide which frame you like best. 😉

    • @TheRollingRaptor
      @TheRollingRaptor  Год назад +2

      The Advanced feels a little more swivelly than the Dragon+, but also heavier. Riding the Advanced, you've got to mind your crossovers, because _wheelcatch_ is a reality with those big 100mm front and back wheels. The Dragon+ feels faster too me. The 90mm front and back wheels provide extra stability, but are not as tricky as the 100mm wheels of the Advanced. The Advanced really is aimed at Wizard skating, whereas I like the Dragon+ a lot for all kinds of urban skating - riding stairs, jumping gaps, and the occasional transition, of course with some swivelling in between.
      Is that the kind of elaboration you were hoping for? 🙂

    • @TheRollingRaptor
      @TheRollingRaptor  Год назад +1

      I think the Wizard Advanced has a little bit more rocker, but I'm not entirely sure about that. What I'm mostly referring to, are the wheel sizes. The 100-80-80-80-100 configuration of the Advanced really is a bit weird, with the front wheel coming higher than your toes. (Also thanks to the UFS mounting.) With its 344mm wheelbase, it's even longer than the Dragon+. That length and wheel setup take some getting used to, while the Dragon+ is easier to get into.

    I got back into inline skates last year and picked up some craptacular K2s for $25. But after rolling around I have felt my feet were sort of glued down. As the summer went on they got naturally slightly rockered from wheel wear. But spins and transitions got easier. For this winter I wanted to keep skating so I bought hockey skates and got to feel the power of a true rocker. I know it is not the same but rocker is rocker. Holy crap that is what I have been looking for. So I for sure need to get some good inlines for next year. I think bang for buck these Dragon + seem like the way to go. Thinking of FR1 or FR2 boots because I have freak wide feet. How are the powerslide boots for width?

    • @TheRollingRaptor
      @TheRollingRaptor  9 месяцев назад +1

      Oh yeah, transitioning from a flat to a rockered setup is something you won't easily forget. That first time feels like magic, eh? :-)
      The FR1 or 2 with the Dragon+ sounds like a killer setup! Those boots indeed are comfy. For me, the Powerslide Next is comfortable as well, but I haven't got very wide feet. And with my EU size 42, my feet fit nicely in the Next 42-43. Some people do complain about pressure points in the Next, though. If you've got the chance: try the fit before ordering a pair of skates.

    • @TheRollingRaptor
      @TheRollingRaptor  9 месяцев назад +1

      @@infinityphotorob Hmm, I’m not entirely convinced by the FR Intuition. I mean, it sure is a good liner, but it’s not the V2 or Intuition Premium. The “regular” FR liner also feels great. However, in my EU 42 FR1, I felt quite a lot of pressure on the back of my ankles with the stock liner. I don’t have that problem with the FR Intuition liner. So that’s definitely an advantage. (I’m now using my 42 FR liners in my EU size 43 FR3 skates: maximum comfort!)
      And yes, I’m skating on ice with hockey knives mounted under my old fitness skates. :-) Ice skating is great for practising wizard moves. Here’s a video I recorders last year, when there was a short, sharp shock of winter: ruclips.net/video/CYizIlLK8Bs/видео.htmlsi=0zDs6n0VRaAPEnDB

      The Dragon+ feels slightly more manoeuvrable, I guess because it's a little lighter and shorter, and probably has a bit more rocker. But it's very, very subtle. It certainly feels more elegant since it hasn't got those big 100mm wheels in the front and the back. The Dragon+ doesn't feel less manoeuvrable than the Dragon or a PR80: after all, it's only 1cm longer than a regular 5x80.
