Agree. My partner and I always have this running joke on seeing new stations as to what genius signs off on platform shelters these days in the public service. From an accessibility pov it's terrible. Where do you wait for the tram? Often a rear tram will suddenly take off to take the place when a tram in front of it has moved off. Meaning passengers who can't walk fast enough from the rear space to the front will miss the tram. Tram drivers can be really impatient if you don't move quickly enough for them. It's inconvenient, ableist, and I don't see what the issue is with safety that would have been easy to deal with in the beginning.

Great video Philip. Looking forward to using this station. Regarding the single escalator at the northern entrance, there is actually thought behind it, it's not a mistake. Here in Santiago, Chile, many metro stations are like that. It provides the most benefit to the most people when space is limited. It looks fantastic - but was there any retail space in the main concourse? I remember early leaflets given to locals emphasised that the underground walkway would feature cafes, a supermarket, etc
I asked about this on Taitset's video and he replied saying there was "space for one or two" (shops). I doubt there will be a supermarket there since it would be a difficult location for delivery trucks to unload. Another great video. I heard a story about why Punt Road curves away as the Punt Road Bridge cross the Yarra. Do you know anything about why the road doesn't go straight?
@ 3:24 that looks like you Philip in the digital rendering, looking at the map and looks like you are chatting to PTV on the phone "yeah love what you've done what the tram map but you should really have just copied mine"!!!
I hope you communicated the points about the seating in the way of information and the lack of seating to the metro team, it seems like it would only need a quick fix. I also hope that they asked some disabled individuals for their feed back, especially with the access to the tram stops via the station and how that make impact individuals with low energy or chronic pain.
Very odd 5:14 with the offset lighting for the station sign; a couple of odd design choices (limited seating? Possibly in the hope that wait times won't be long), but overall, I eagarly await opening of this new line!
I can’t believe they overlooked the shelter. Melbourne Summers and Winters will be brutal waiting for a tram. I can also foresee people blocking the escalator. How do the architects and designers not consider this stuff? They probably never take public transport themselves.
Took them long enough to complete all of this..... If this project had been done in somewhere like Japan they would have completed it in half the time!
Next time can you show us disabled ends of trains stop sometime over ends when trains going change ends(like arrow showing the directions where the train is heading
The new bike paths along St Kilda Rd are a huge improvement. At 3:37 the graphic "artwork" is too hectic, needs something more relaxing in this environment.

Looks marvelous . Two questions : those outside boxes are working stations and will be removed? … the blackness appearing in the video, are those surfaces actualy dark gray or dark blue? Thank you.
Thank you! To answer your first question, the wooden boards you can see around the station entrance is just part of construction will be removed once the station opens. In terms of the dark surfaces, I don't remember exactly and it depends on the exact location. You may get a better sense of the colours from Marcus Wong's photos here which are a higher resolution. Hope that helps! railgallery.wongm.com/metro-tunnel-anzac-open-day

ANZAC is a fantastic name for the station. Hopefully the dreadfully misguided university students and protesters in the area don't vandalize it too much and ruin it for normal people.
I only hope it is kept CLEAN and not dingy and grotty like most city stations. A bad design feature to have only one escalator next to huge stairs in one area, I can imagine a real block up happening here. Overall looks good, let's wait and see how well it works.

Was that the Macarthur St exit, in the shot you had?
That northern/Flagstaff Gardens exit does rate as one of the strangest tho, with only stairs from street level, but then there's the quite short escalator down from (like a walkway level) to the concourse.
Like, why have a short single escalator, between the stairs, & going down to the concourse, when must use stairs to enter /exit that way, anyway.
Edit: Google Maps shows a Woolworths Metro supermarket just around the corner on Park Street. Perhaps it opened recently since it's not visible on Street View.
@@zoomosis there is a goods lift so it is not hard, how do you think any of the other city locations operate:?
@@zoomosis Thank you! and yep - metro just opened up in the last month or so - they may have been referring to a re-do of the surrounding precinct. The whole domain interchange area had very little on-street retail before metro
As others have said here, yes there will be! We were shown a couple of locations where there is retail space. If I recall correctly this was mainly on the west side of the station near the entrance.
Another great video. I heard a story about why Punt Road curves away as the Punt Road Bridge cross the Yarra. Do you know anything about why the road doesn't go straight?

I hope you communicated the points about the seating in the way of information and the lack of seating to the metro team, it seems like it would only need a quick fix. I also hope that they asked some disabled individuals for their feed back, especially with the access to the tram stops via the station and how that make impact individuals with low energy or chronic pain.
is there information on the journey travel time? for example caulfield to ANZAC and caufield to TH
Very odd 5:14 with the offset lighting for the station sign; a couple of odd design choices (limited seating? Possibly in the hope that wait times won't be long), but overall, I eagarly await opening of this new line!
Sneaky Metcard :) Great video thanks
I can’t believe they overlooked the shelter. Melbourne Summers and Winters will be brutal waiting for a tram.
I can also foresee people blocking the escalator.
How do the architects and designers not consider this stuff? They probably never take public transport themselves.
when matching for speed, what kills more pedestrians, hook turns or from centre lane?

Normal peopl who support GENOCIDE.
Normal people who support genocide.
I only hope it is kept CLEAN and not dingy and grotty like most city stations. A bad design feature to have only one escalator next to huge stairs in one area, I can imagine a real block up happening here. Overall looks good, let's wait and see how well it works.

Lovely to see you use all upper case for the word ANZAC. BUT I notice that government and the builders can’t get their act together. Some are upper case, some are lower case. Looks unprofessional and sloppy.
blame the DVA, they request it to be this way, if you are reffering to a place or the holiday, it is spelt Anzac
This is the Department of Veterans Affairs’ advice:
Is it ‘Anzac’ or ANZAC? There is no rule or law that indicates how the word ‘Anzac’ should be capitalised. For example, DVA only uses ‘ANZAC’ when referencing the Corps itself and uses ‘Anzac’ in all other circumstances; the Australian War Memorial (AWM) generally uses ‘ANZAC’, given its focus on historical records and memorabilia.
@@FromtheWindowSeat
Yes. I know of that document. But my issue is they have used both ways in the station on signs. Showing the left hand didn’t know what the right hand was doing. It’s the equivalent of having signs in a building with the word ‘colour’ in the name and half spell it ‘colour’ and the other half use ‘color’
